"Do You Mind?" - Disney Adventures with Teens August Trip Report

Thanks for the compliments.

Now, there's a thought! Maybe we'll just bust it out once in each country! Then maybe over at AK to some tribal music; I'm sure DHS will have music somewhere. Not so sure about MK - if we dance, they may ask us to be in the parade or something! :rotfl:

I'm known for letting the music move me wherever I am.... so my tippy toes will be tapping throughout WDW. And it doesn't matter what I look like because I'm an old lady and have earned the right to do whatever I want, whenever I want, wherever I want and I promise to keep my clothes ON unlike your father and his mother.:lmao:

We have been dancing swing and salsa since May 2007 and West Coast Swing since about September (?). June this year was our first showcase. That's where the pics are from.

Just wait till I get settled in Austin. I'll be taking dance lessons and have my pictures on the internet for all to see, too.:goodvibes

DANG GIRL! You are sure making up for all those weeks you were MIA!:rotfl2:

Just Kidding!:goodvibes

Anyway, I think everything looks GREAT and I wouldn't worry to much about ME, the quote I have always gotten was 3 hours after your flight arrives! I think if you bring your dinner attire in your carry on with some swim stuff that would work out great!:thumbsup2
I know it. I have to. Otherwise I'll never finish. I only have next weekend here, then the following week I am out of town until Tuesday after. Then we leave Friday morning!!

Glad to hear the 3-hour thing on ME. Maybe TGM sets you up to NOT be disappointed by saying 5-7.

We're doing deluxe dining this year, but won't next year. We may do the regular dining plan just to prepay a couple of meals a day. It is a lot of food.
I love the idea of being almost all-inclusive. But, sometimes I think we'll prefer having dessert instead of an appetizer. Other meals, we will opt for neither - just an entree. Even at the most conservative estimate (assuming that we would max out with the most expensive menu items at each restaurant), it saved us just a few dollars a person. And knowing Katie and Caitlin, they won't be going for the most expensive options.

MCO now has lines like this too. I was pleasantly surprised on my trip in May to find that they had changed to the 3 sets of lines.
That is awesome!!! I wonder if Memphis will have them before August 8th? Wishful thinking.

So, OK, my daughters went to Sin City and "sinned", but they had their father there to "protect" them......sure!!!!:rotfl2:
I have never been to Vegas without him and we've been divorced 31 years, so the city is nothing like I remember it.
I could share some stories about when we were there in the 60's and 70's, but this is neither the time nor the place.
I'm just glad the girls had a good time on their dad's wallet.
You must have missed our Vegas trip report (see the link in my siggie).

Are you into Disney collectibles? I really love the Disney Precious Moments.
Mom collects ornaments from various travel destinations. Surely she will be browsing the Disney ornaments. I think she wants to get one from each World Showcase country as well.

And this explains why our national economy has gotten worse. Once again, Susan didn't do as her mother told her. If you read an earlier post, i specifically told her while she was there to tell the politicians in DC to fix the economy !!!!:guilty: :guilty:
I was dealing with HUD people. All they care about is housing. And they want and need MORE money, so they certainly aren't going to "fix" our economy by making things cheaper or lowering taxes. Sorry.

I like this idea. I suggested to Susan that we get Mickey Ears, spray paint them red and trim them in white fur.
I'm not doing that. Did you see Chel's mouse ears pic? It was so cute. They weren't wearing mouse ears. They "made" them with their hands.

One thing I have learned through the years of family events is NOT to worry about a camera. There are plenty of others in the group who take pictures. So I let THEM take the pictures and I enjoy everything in full view....not through a tiny window....and I don't have to worry about keeping up with the camera and chargers and batteries, etc. etc. etc.
Yeah, but if we all go thinking that, NObody will have a camera. But I feel the same way you do about video cameras. I missed some major Katie moments because I was BEHIND the video camera.

I saw these when I was at Susan's house a couple of weeks ago. These pictures don't do them justice. They are beautiful.:lovestruc :thumbsup2 :lovestruc
Everyone should get these. Even if they aren't planning a Disney vacation.

Heck with the snowman.....I love the little boys! They are precious. I know you are proud of them.:lovestruc :lovestruc
They ARE adorable. And it's a fun trip report to read too! :thumbsup2

When I know which airport (Memphis or Austin) is our departure site, then I'll worry about how to get there.
You are so stressed out about this possible change. I told you, assume Memphis unless I tell you otherwise. I don't think it will change. I'm just determined to make that AAA lady work for my membership fee.

Oh no. Watch out! Mom's going to be creating "Magical Moments" all over WDW. This is the Year of a Million Dreams - not the Year of a Million Nightmares, Mom. :rotfl2: haha - just kidding.

I'm CRAZY!

I'm NOT going to agree with you.:goodvibes You just didn't fall far from my tree.:lmao: Now that you've seen some of my old scrapbooks, you know where you get your planning obsession. But, trust me, someday you'll pass the bar to Katie and sit back and relax while she plans your vacation for you just as I am now.:woohoo:

\
.... I could recommend one of the Segway tours. We did the one at Ft. Wilderness and loved, loved, loved it!! I definitely want to do it again. (This is not for kids though...)

Wow! Segways! I didn't know they had those at WDW.
I have been a bad, bad, girl with my walking routine lately.
I have been very busy dealing with all the imminent and not so imminent moves to Austin. And you will hear more about this later.
So I see a Segway in my future. :) ;) :)
Of course, when I stop, I will get off the Segway, do a little dance for "entertainment/exercise" :woohoo: :dance3: :woohoo: and hop back on the Segway to move on to my next location.:thumbsup2

I am reading some TGM articles. I just printed the "A Fun World Showcase for Tweens & Teens" article. I will file it in my Epcot section of the binder. I think it has some great tips.

Also, I did not realize that Illuminations did not start until 1999. That means we haven't seen it. We must have seen its precursor. Now I have to add it to our NTBM list. Everyone and all the guides rave about it.

Wait! I just pulled out my 1995 UG and it lists the Illuminations show. Maybe it had a significant overhaul in 1999? Does anyone know?

I thought we had seen it, and I don't remember getting all excited about it. That's why it wasn't on my NTBM list. I think it's on our "If There's Time" list.

As I am printing out these articles from TGM, I am LOVING having a color printer. I am so glad I bought this copier/printer/scanner last week for 100 Bucks. Best pre-Disney purchase ever!

I'm not sure if it had an overhaul or TGM wrong. But whatever I saw pre-1999 was not that thrilling to me. I prefer the fireworks at the MK.

See? Maybe I am right. I think you and I seldom disagree on things. I like canasta too. :cool1:

Wasn't it some sort of laser show?

If there were a Canasta World, I'd vacation there with exbf. But really no need to leave NY for that :rotfl2:

And remember, George Michael wants to play canasta with you.

Whew! It's 10:30pm. Here's what I have done today. (Just the Disney-related stuff)

- I worked on my binder some more. Put in all my itineraries that I printed yesterday. Verified that my reservation numbers and park "colors" matched up.

- Read a bunch of TGM articles, printed some for the binder, sent alot to PDF in my computer files.

- Talked to Caitlin's mom about items needed for the trip.

- Talked to Caitlin about the trip. She's SO excited. She wanted to know what to pack. She also said she's getting excited about flying, though she has always been nervous about flying.

- Found an online consent form and modified it for Caitlin's parents to sign, authorizing me to authorize medical treatment for Caitlin in an emergency.

- Bought two new pieces of luggage, big enough for us to use on the trip.

- Placed my Garden Grocer order. Here's what I ordered:
chewy granola bars
fuji apples
red delicious apples
almonds
coke
dasani
dr pepper
chips ahoy
oranges
cashews

I forgot to order trail mix.

- Bought more ship-ahead goodies:
gum
charmin to go
clorox wipes to go
excedrin

The other day I bought a little can of room freshener spray from Bath & Body Works for the bathroom. I imagine it might get a little nasty with 5 of us doing the deed in one bathroom.

I think that's it for today. Now I am going to go through my stuff.

I think I need another binder. This one is already full. It's because of all the articles I'm printing. I am thinking of trying to read and highlight them before we leave, so I can toss the unnecessary and/or irrelevant pages. I kept things like TGM's touring tips for teens, best days/times for water parks, parade and fireworks viewing locations, etc.

Now, I think I'm going to go print some UG touring plans.

The DIS seems kinda slow tonight.

By the way, Tate broke his heel today. Tate is Katie's boyfriend. He was riding his dirt bike. I visited him at the ER/Minor Med clinic. He's doing fine; they put him in a boot, on crutches and on Lortab until he can see the ortho surgeon. In the past year he has broken a collar bone, both legs, and a heel riding motocross. His mom says he's done with dirtbikes, but I could see in his dad's eye that he disagrees.

You got a lot done today.

I wonder if you could just call Garden Grocer to add the trail mix.

You are FAR more organized. I have all of the trip stuff in an envelope. Maybe I should get a binder to organize stuff. Hmmm maybe I'll stop at Staples tomorrow after my rendevous with the dentist.

How is the UG's website?

The DIS does seem slow. Or I'm extra hyper :lmao:

Poor Tate! I wish him a speedy recovery!

Canasta is much better in Vegas. ;)
