"Do You Mind?" - Disney Adventures with Teens August Trip Report

You're going to be so busy. But you have to make a little time for a pedi. It'll help you relax. That and a massage by a George Michael clone.

Take pic a of the binder!!!
Well, we are finished with our retreat on Saturday, but another female partner and I are staying over in Napa to get body wraps and massages Sunday morning. I am not too sure about a pedi that day too. I may try to get one down the street on Monday evening the 4th when I get home. I think I get back to town around 4pm that day, so there's plenty of time. Maybe I can request the George Michael clone to do my wrap and massage on Sunday. Hmmmm

See -- I just adore their names!!! I buy more OPI because of their names than any other polish (I like their colors, too)!
I love their names too. I always get OPI when I get my pedis.

It's been 10 Dispages and almost a month since I've written, but that doesn't mean that I haven't been reading the Disboards and it doesn't mean that I haven't been busy. More about all I've been doing later. Now I have to go back 10 pages and try to remember all the salient comments I would have made at the time I read your posts.

Let's see how this turns out.

This is our general itinerary for the week:

Whispering Canyon Café at Wilderness Lodge for dinner

I think it sounds a whole lot better than mine, which will be Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday:
7:45 Students arrive......etc., etc., etc.
3:00 Students are dismissed
3:15 Teachers race each other out the back door (if there is no after school meeting of some hundred different kinds)

Be sure to have an extra dose of fun for me while you're there.

Maybe I'll put on my lei Thursday night and pretend I'm at 'Ohana with you! :)

Oh you're going to be in my neck of the woods Thursday night. If you see someone wearing a Farrah Fawcett wig, slurring, singing one of Wham's greatest hits, and trying to crush popsicles in a Lapu Lapu, that's me.

I don't remember where I'm having dinner that night. I think it might be Cinderella's Royal Table hosted by everyone's favorite godmother. It should be a bibbidi bobbidi blast!

What a beautiful dress you bought for Pleasure Island. It looks like such a fun dress!

All of the other purchases are great too.

I have a very similar color of OPI nailpolish and I LOVE it for my toes. It's all I've been wearing all summer!

Wow! You have been shopping huh!:rotfl: I LOVE all the clothes, but I especially love your dress!! I hope you find time for your pedi, it's a necessity!;)

Welcome back Grandma Bonnie, I hope all is well with you!:goodvibes

Awww - I feel bad. I have to say, I'd rather be where I'll be than where you'll be. But we'll drink a lapu lapu toast to you on Thurs night. :thumbsup2

I will be looking for you at the Poly! I'm sure you (and T) will enjoy CRT. We may get stuck at the Poly after the Lapus, so you may find us passed out on the beach when you get home from dinner. :rotfl:

Thanks. I have to say I probably never would have picked it out. Katie found it. And it was $19.99 on sale, down from $79. I tried on another one that I liked, but Katie nixed it, saying it looked like a potato sack and I needed something "tighter".

I love the hot pinks for summer.

Susan's caught the shopping bug!!!!
 :rotfl2:

I'm going to take lots of Vitamin C so I don't catch that bug (yet). Come October, however, bring it on!
It's hard to avoid. Good luck with that!

I think I have more shopping today. I have to buy capris for golfing in Napa (my once annual golf outing). The ones I bought last year are too big! Yay! Also, I want to get two more pieces of large-size luggage at the outlets for the trip.

I'll get the pedi figured out. I just had one last weekend. Do you think it will last? Nawww - I think I'll need another one.

OK I was reading TGM last night. I read that with ME, your luggage doesn't arrive for 5-7 hours. That means if our flight arrives at 4:30, we may not have our luggage until nearly midnight. Also, it indicated that they call your room and make arrangements to deliver your luggage. So does this mean that if you're not there when they call, you don't get your luggage? Or is it like a cruise, where they'll just put it in your room if you're not there?

Now I'm not sure I want to wait that long for our luggage. Especially when we haven't made plans and we aren't planning to make concrete plans for what we're doing Sat night other than our bluezoo dinner. I can't pack 3 changes of clothes in my carry-on backpack.

So now I've just about convinced myself that we need to get our luggage at baggage claim before boarding the ME. That stinks, because half of the benefit of ME was not having to do the baggage claim.

What do y'all think?

What do y'all think?

I used ME in January and got our own bags. Our flight didn't land until after 6 and we knew we didn't want to wait for our luggage all night.

Since you're arriving at 4:30, I'd just pack clothes for bluezoo in a carry-on and let ME take care of the luggage. Is everyone in your group bringing a carry-on? From what I understand, ME will deliver your luggage to the room even if you're not there.

I think it's so much easier to go to ME without luggage. We had three suitcases and a stroller in January and it was a PAIN lugging all of that stuff over to ME. Sure the bus driver put all of it on the lower compartment of the bus, but it's still a hassle.

Just waiting at baggage claim was annoying. It never fails to amaze me how people have to practically get on the moving belt to wait for their luggage as if it's going to appear faster that way. Do you really want to start your vacation off with a mob scene at baggage claim?

We're packing a change of clothes for T and swimsuits in a carry-on, as well as our prescriptions. Right now, we have 6 bags to check. We do not want to even attempt to collect those at baggage claim.

Thanks for all the info. I think maybe you're right. We will go for convenience and not claim our luggage. Maybe we'll pack our bluezoo clothes for the flight, or just wear something on the plane we can wear at bluezoo (not sure what "business casual means" but I think we could get by with jeans and flops, what do you think?). Then just pack a swimsuit in the carry-on - it won't take much room - just in case we decide to do those Typhoon Lagoon EMH that night. Otherwise, we can just wear whatever we wear to bluezoo wherever we decide to go.

I think that makes sense. Let's see what Mom chimes in.

Yes, we will each have our own carry-on. Katie will probably bring her computer and her summer reading books. Chris and I will have our computer backpacks. Mom usually brings some sort of carry-on. (Hopefully she will leave her ridiculous fanny pack at home. I have to figure out something more fashionable than a fanny pack for her in the parks.)

As an aside, I am with you on the freaks at baggage claim. The freaks all over the place with air travel, for that matter. I don't understand what the rush is. I travel SO much. Here's what I do:

- Check in online and print boarding passes before I go to the airport.
- Check bags at the airport either curbside, or self-check-in on the inside if the line's not too long. I always check my bag, except for day trips. I simply cannot get my toiletries in 3-ounce sizes in a single 1-quart bag.
- Be extremely picky about which security line to enter. Never follow families with strollers, people with complicated shoes or boots, people with 15,000 carry-ons, people with a drink or bottled water, or other people who are obviously clueless about what the heck to do at security. I noticed that Midway Airport in Chicago now has 3 lines for security: Family, Casual Traveler, and Expert Traveler. I love this. Expert traveler every time. I wish every airport had this.
- Pull my computer out while waiting in line, before the dude checks my ID against my boarding pass.
- Untie my shoe laces, if I'm not wearing my usual flip-flops.
- Sit in a window seat in the back of the plane.
- Wait to stand up until all the rows ahead of me have exited. What's the rush? Our bags aren't going to be there yet anyway.
- At baggage claim, wait patiently behind everyone. When my bag comes down the line, I'll politely excuse myself to bust up in between the jerky people and get my things.

Anyway, you get the point. What's the rush? You're right. I'm not interested in dealing with freaks at baggage claim on my vacation. We'll skip it and head straight for ME.

I'm with you on all of the above!

Here is an example from the daily itineraries I made. The concept is that we can pull just that day's itinerary from the binder and carry it with us in a backpack wherever we go. The actual pages are printed with Disney font at the title and Bradley Hand script for the rest. The color coding is per TGM. Bold and double stars are my personal recommendations for the day/time. These consider an effort to fit everything we want to do in during the week. Times in parens are UG's "worst case scenario" for using Disney transportation.

I'm not sure what they mean by business casual either. Maybe they just don't want people showing up for dinner in swimwear and a coverup.

Would you mom carry a messenger type bag? Or even a small flap bag? I got a Tumi small flap bag on eBags and it's perfect for the parks. Lots of people seem to like the Baggalini on here. Or what about a small backpack? I don't do fanny packs because that's the one area of my body I do not want to draw attention to :lmao:

Your list of what you do when you travel is what everyone needs to do. But this time of year, as well as Christmas, brings out all of the inexperienced travelers.

When I travel, I always make sure to pull out the laptop ahead of time, take off shoes, have my ID and boarding pass ready, and, when I'm with my nephew, the stroller is folded up BEFORE we get to the front of the line. Oh and I always check bags too.

Like you, my toiletries cannot fit in those little 3 oz bottles. And I don't feel the need to act like a Grand Canyon pack mule, carrying everything on with me. And I don't like struggling with overhead compartments.

I think every airport should adopt Midway's system :thumbsup2

I agree about rushing off the plane. You would think the plane was going to pull away from the gate within 5 minutes of opening the door the way people push to get out. I've had people stand (or rather push their way) so close to me that I felt like we should have been married! We NEVER rush to get off of the plane either. Plus, we gate check T's stroller so we have to wait for that. I like to leisurely stroll off of the plan after the stampede.

I'm glad you're sticking with ME. After you check your bags, you can just relax and wait to see them at the Beach Club!

I'm really looking forward to your review of the BC. We're thinking of staying there next year. Was that your first choice for this trip?

I really like your itinerary. I have YET to do one :lmao:

How did you get the Disny font?

I'm really looking forward to your review of the BC. We're thinking of staying there next year. Was that your first choice for this trip?
We narrowed it down between Poly and Beach Club. I think we ultimately decided in BC because of the teen girls. It gives them lots of walk-able options close by when they want to get away from us. Poly would have worked better if we were with younger kids and planned to spend more time at MK.

I will PM you the link.

Download the font, and, if you have a PC, put it at C:\WINDOWS\Fonts.

But, since you're a teacher, I'm guessing you'll have a Mac, and I can't tell you where to put it then. I would just say Google "how do I install a font on my Mac?". :rotfl:

The walk-able options are important. If I can avoid Disney transportation, I do. Even though it's Disney, it's still mass transit :lmao:

The girls are going to love it. They can go off and explore on their own. Are they doing any of the tours?
