Do you love your HE washer???

I have had my Samsung model for about 6 months now. It was one of the top-rated models and I have none of the issues the OP describes.

My clothes are no more wrinkly. In fact my old top loader used to twist my close in knots.

My clothes seem much cleaner and softer for some reason.

I can do small loads as it decides how much water to use by weight.

The only drawback is that the wash cycle does take longer and that can slow me down. I wash a lot of my stuff on the Permanent Press cycle which is one of the shorter ones and that runs 44 minutes.

That must be the difference because my G.E one there is only one water level it fills too so it doesn't matter the load size. The other selector buttons says soil level or something and that changes the time too so a normal , speed wash is 41 plus minutes since that is only the wash cycle not the timing of the rinse, spin etc. so it turns out be an hour. If I go down to a light soil load it might go to 39 plus minutes.

Maybe I should have spend more money and bought the top of line.:confused3

Mine is definitely not top of the line. I spent $599 for the washer (down from $799). I just knew that it weighed clothes and determined water levels, the times it gives are for the entire cycle (my shortest cycle is 38 minutes). I do have soil level options that will increase the time also. I don't know if what you spend matters. I think it's important when you buy the washer to really, really look at the features. My coworker has an LG model that she really likes but it always defaults to a cold-water wash and she hates that.

My original post was about a top load HE washer...

.if the load is too big it twists things so badly they come out looking like you put rubber bands around the items to put the wrinkles in...I have to not only iron my shirts but iron them using spray sizing to get the wrinkles out.. I have since switched to making my loads smaller, but then that defeats the purpose of the energy saving and water saving.

Like someone else said I have also gone back to using the expensive Tide detergent, much to my dislike cause the cost of it has skyrocketed over the last several years, but if it is necessary to get the clothes clean I will have no choice.

The machine I have does not have a see through lid so I can't even see how much water loads into it, which is supposed to be very little....and in order to peek I have to push the buttom and I have not done that yet.

I know we are all going to have to get used to these energy efficient machines because at some point the other's are going away and we won't be able to buy them anymore....makes me want to ditch this new machine quick so that I can have a regular machine again for one last time...cause I know when this new one wears out I will have to buy another one like it..ugh!

Oh goodness...I have the Electrolux and have had none of these issues. I absolutely love my machine. :lovestruc

My clothes are clean, wrinkle free, and if I have a small load, I can wash in as little as 18 min. There is a pause button which unlocks the washer door if I have forgotten to throw something in and I adore the sanitary cycle...especially after my son vomited on his blanket.

Same here.

I need a new washer and dryer. Our 22 year old ones are ready to die, they're both clanging and banging.

DH wants to get the cheapest we can find since we want to sell in 2 yrs when DS graduates, but I still need to do wash so I don't really want junk.

From reading this, it doesn't sound like I want an HE washer. I can't imagine waiting almost an hour for the wash, I'll be doing wash all day!

I love mine! I had a Frigidaire Gallery Series front loader for 8 years with never a problem until it quit working last week. It wasn't worth it to fix it so we bought a new Frigidaire Affinity front loader and I'm amazed at how fast and clean everything is. Clothes come out of the washer feeling almost dry so that saves on dryer time. I haven't tried the Steam or Allergy cycles yet. But this new washer has cut my wash time in half since the drum size is so much bigger than my old one.:)

Thank God you posted this, because I was starting to have heart failure. We just bought a new front load HE washer...it hasn't even been delivered yet! We bought a Samsung. Do you ahve to use the HE laundry soap or is there some magic formula to figure out how to use regular laundry soap and adjust it for the HE thing?

Mine has a glass top. The water level doesn't go above the clothes level. Our clothes do come out softer and the machine is gentler on them.

I don't know what to tell you. Have you done a search for similar problems with your particular model? Maybe there is an explanation or solution. :confused3

Yes, I use HE soap and wouldn't try anything else. It's not a big deal, the price seems to be the same these days. I use either Tide or Gain HE.

They don't all take that long. Mine has several settings between 36 minutes (hand washing) to 1:19 (for whites), for a total of 9 washing cycles.

We have a 6 yo Maytag HE set with pedestal drawers that cleans very well.... but the washer has been a shaker, clanker and mover since day one during the spin cycle. I've had it looked at a couple of times under warranty. They say our brand new 'floating' floor system is to blame. I bought a heavy duty rubber horse mat from Farm and Fleet to set the washer on, and that helped some what. I was finally at my wits end this week and took drastic action. Lowered the leveling legs to bare minimum, and removed the rubber feet from the leveling legs. The washer still shakes and clanks a lot on spin with bulky items, but it is at least staying in one place now as the leveling leg circular metal bottoms do not scoot across the floor mat.

I think so.

We rent, and have a Maytag Neptune set, and I hate it. Hate hate hate. It's a front loader. It stinks, it takes ages. Yay, it's more efficient with water, but if I don't take items out *immediately* I have to re-wash them. Boo, that's not efficient. The dryer's settings are mysterious and baffling. They don't match the reality of what it's doing.

My brother has some older, more expensive model of top loading HE, and I LOVE them. If they ever upgrade their set, I will buy them and tote them from CA to WA, I love them so much. Night and day.

Love my Samsung 4.5 front load machine! It hardly vibrates, is very quiet and cleans with less water and soap. The clothes spin so dry my drying time as been cut in half. Which means I am using less natural gas to heat my dryer.

Since I have own the machine which I purchase in early 2009, my water bill went down by 2ccf, I use 170oz. bottle of soap every six months. When i buy my soap I write on it what date I started using the bottle that is how I know it takes me 6 months to go through a bottle of soap.

One reason your washer is a shaker is that you have it on a pedestal. We took ours off and it doesn't shake.

One thing to remember although the cycles are longer you are washing more clothes than the typical old top loader could handle. Most machines have a quick load option which takes 38 minutes to complete.

I love our Maytag Performance Series 4000 set. I love it and wish we would have gotten the set sooner. I haven't noticed a problem with wrinkles and I think our clothes get much cleaner than with our old set.

ETA: I have a pause button too. I can use that function in the first 8 minutes of the wash cycle to add more clothes and our dryer has some sort of wrinkle prevent feature that I love beacause I can't always get to the dryer the minute it's done.

I bought the same washer a month ago and the 5000 series dryer with steam. I love them. I had the Maytag Neptune front loader before. It lasted for about 8 years. This one is a little more complicated to operate but works really well. I will never go back to a regular washer.

I've had the Whirlpool Duet washer and dryer for five years and I would never go beck to a front-loader. I've had no problems.

I hate mine. I got it in 2003... when it dies I am going back to the biggest top loader I can find. Mine twists clothes into virtual knots.

That was my wife's issue too. We made it a week before my wife called Lowes and said come and get it.

Mine is a top loader and it twist things into knots. I am sure it is the fact that it is a "he" washer that does it because of using so little water that it has to twist the clothes into a little bit of water...

I have mine about 3 weeks, not a fan of it, and have gone to washing everything in it's own wash load...I no longer will sift a smaller load into the larger ones to save on washer loads...now if it's only 4 things to wash it either waits or gets washed by itself....I also have taken to making sure everything from the washer to the dryer is shaken out and fluffed before it goes into the dryer. So now I 'm spending more time prepping my laundry and using more loads to do my laundry...so I have defeated the purpose of buying a high efficiency, energy saver, large tub washer.

Do you have the Cabrio-type top loader HE? Twisted clothes are notorious in this model do to the lack of agitator and having clothes rest on the bottom (they don't "toss" like in a Front Loader).

Prior to my Front Loader, I had three large capacity top loaders that were not HE. I had no problems with any of them until the last one which was made by Amana, I think. God, it knotted my clothes up something awful. I really don't know what causes that in some washers. It was just like the other top loaders I have.

Also, I used to always buy the biggest top loader I could find. I would get tons of clothes in them. In my front loader, I really don't get a whole lot more in there.
