Do you look older than your age?

Lord, yes. When I was 13 I was often taken for over 30. I really liked suits with bow-ties at that time (early 70's), and that contributed, I'm sure.

Of course, the downside is that now that I'm in my late 40's I'm often taken to be in my 60's. This gets interesting because I have a 2yo; people constantly assume that she's my grandchild, but I've had some folks actually guess great-granddaughter! I guess I should be thankful that the senior discounts are worth something, right? ;)

My eldest sister went to high school in the 50's, and if you look at her yearbook, almost everyone looks old by today's standards. This isn't her school, but take a look at this photo of the 1958 golf team at New Trier High School ...

I have always looked younger and still do.

I'm sure being shorter doesn't help. They must think I still have a growth spurt coming, they are sadly mistaken.

This is my DD, although being a girl helps since she just wears heels that are oh, break your neck height! However, I don't know how many times people thought she was somewhere between 10 - 12 when she is 15 (I can't count the number of times she has been handed a kid's menu -- then she looks on the menu & it says "for kids 10 & under" -- used to make her fume!!). This past summer we were talking to an employee at Cracker Barrel and the lady was saying how tall DD was...we both were looking at her like she was insane & we finally said something about DD's age (DD is 5' 1"ish), turns out the person thought she was 12, so was thinking she was tall for a 12 year old.

I did keep telling her it will eventually be a GOOD thing and now that she wants to do theatre she loves that looking younger will probably work in her favor for the time being.

I assume I look my age or older. I hope eventually I'll be like my mom though, unless people were just being extra nice. When DD was born & we would go out, for some odd reason, everyone assumed my mom was her mom instead of the grandma. I'm not sure who I was supposed to be, just someone along for the ride I guess. It never bothered me, I thought it was funny & like the idea that maybe I'll follow in her footsteps for that.

Everyone on the DIS looks a lot younger than their actual age.

:thumbsup2 Everyone but me. I think I look older than 44 and I think that's happened since I turned 40. A lot of stress in my life since then and I think it shows. I feel like I've aged 10 years in 2. :(

I don't act old though. :rotfl: But that probably isn't something to brag about.:lmao:

My 15yo looks at least like a college freshman. Even with no makeup or fixed up. I am not sure why she looks so mature and has for years.
Last summer while volunteering at the hospital someone asked her if she was doing a fellowship there!! Huh?? She was 14 years old! And, if I get my wish and she ever does a fellowship, she'll do it at the Mayo Clinic! (Because she's the perfectly smart perfect DIS child you know.):woohoo:

Holy crap your DD is 21 now!! When did that happen.

She'll be over the moon when she's older and still gets asked for ID! :thumbsup2

She'll be 22 in March. She is about to start her last semester of college. Times moves so quickly now days!

I'm the older sister whom people assume is the younger. My sister is 3 years younger and people always assume she's older or at least that we're twins. I still get carded when we go out, but she generally doesn't, even by the same waiter. I'm not sure if it bothers her now...she used to like it when we were much younger, but I'd think by now it's sorta offensive. I think as long as people aren't thinking he's decrepit, then he's probably ok. A guy at 15 looking 20 isn't that bad.

I keep telling her she is going to be really happy about this when she gets a few years older.
I used to hate it. Now it's flattering that I can still get mistaken to be the same age as my students who are 10 years younger. Tuesday night I was asked if I was graduating from high school this year. No, but I will be getting my masters. ;)

I am 24 and nobody ever believes me when I tell them. They always think I am younger. In fact at a recent family event I was asked if I was enjoying my last year of school and where I was planning on going to college next year.

Sometimes I wish I looked older but I am hoping it continues so at 40 I'll look like I am in my twenties.

I'm 20 and everyone tells me i look like im 16. Whats really funny though is when i was 13, everyone told me i looked like i was 16. So I guess that means i havent aged at all in the past 7 years...lol

My cousin is 28 and she gets carded for R rated movies all the time still.

No, I always looked younger than my age--- I hated it back then, but now the I'm older, I really appreciate it!!

DD and I went out to dinner with my sister and 2 nieces last weekend. My nieces are in 5th and 8th grade, the waiter brought them glasses with lids on them :lmao:. They are both very small for their age so it was an honest mistake but we had a good chuckle out of that.

My older niece was staying at our house last summer and went to church with us. We ended up sitting by an older man who after mass handed my niece a quarter and told her it was so nice to see a 2nd grader that knew all of her prayers :lmao: It's amazing what 8 years of Catholic Schools can do for a 2nd grader :lmao:.

I think it may be b/c of who I hang out with but most of my friends think I am older... 28 or so when I am 23. All of them are around that age so that may be it.

I had to go to traffic court a couple of weeks ago (my first speeding ticket ever), and I walked up to the lady judge who asked if I was over 21. I looked at her and said, "Oh yeah, I've been driving for 23 years!" Made my day as this wasn't a kid, working behind the grocery store cash register, mandatory asking me for ID to buy beer. lol

I always get carded for alcohol, but I just assume it's their job to ask.

My mom looked younger the day she died at 70 than she did when my dad died 20 years before that. The stress she went through with his cancer and treatment really aged her. She looked like she was in her 50s when she died, but looked 70 when he died. She didn't have wrinkles. I already have crow's feet showing. :(

Unbelievable! Yes, they all look around mid to late 20's!

I'm 24 and when I'm at school (I'm a teacher) I've had some kids ask me if I'm a teenager.

I looked older than I was when I was a kid and now that I'm 32, I keep getting ID'ed and people keep being shocked when I show them my ID.

Nope, I look younger than I am.
I'm 20 and people mistake me for 16-18 all the time. It's such a bummer because I get ID'd EVERYWHERE I GO! I have to make sure I bring more than one piece of photo ID when I go to the bar or the liquor store because people always think I have a fake ID!
I even get suspicious looks when I go to buy a lotto ticket

I love, love, love living in a college town. The college kids all think I'm their age and most people I meet when I'm just hanging out in casual clothes think I'm in college.

Heh. I'm old enough to have kids in college. :thumbsup2

I'm milking it for all it's worth, too, although the other day Dear Brother was a little ticked when some family friends mistook me for one of his kids. :lmao:

I'll be 25 in March but a lot of people think I'm a teenager. I get carded most of the time at stores when I'm buying certain items. My mom is 59 and looks younger than her age.
