You can have some of our oil packed tuna...our stores are full of it...we're constantly buying the wrong stuff..lol

I prefer water. I tried the bags. They taste pretty much the same. They're a lot more money though, but much handier if you're preparing at work or somewhere other than home. The last time I opened a can at work it splashed my blouse and I smelled like tuna! Yuck!

I hate getting splashed...LOL

Water for me too. I accidently got oil once and also couldn't get it rinsed enough to eat.

I like the bags - much less mushy. I buy both now. Cheaper cans for casserole, but I love the bags for sandwiches and salads.

Water only. I don't think I have ever even tried the oil version.
I add fat-free miracle whip ( or mayo if it's for my DH), onion, and salt & pepper. Occasionally celery too. Yum!!

Another one who grew up with only oil & now eats only water. I think they packed it in oil because it helped with the preservation. I don't know for sure, though. They pack sardines with oil, too. My mother started buying the water-pack for us when we were in college. (Back in the dark ages & we had no refrigerator to keep mayo!) That was the first we ate tuna with only pepper - before that we'd always used Miracle Whip.

Haven't tried the bags, but am wondering . . . why is the Albacore different? I always thought it was a specific type of fish - not the packing. I've been irritated in recent years because the tuna is so soupy when you open it & it splashes all over! When I'm home I throw it in the colander, but you used to be able to just drain the water by putting the lid on top & tipping.

That is so true! Draining the can used to be so easy..now it's just to sloppy...water everywhere! Maybe the cans aren't made the same anymore or something.

I buy Chicken of the Sea Reduced Fat Tuna Salad mix. It has the tuna (in a bag), seasoning, bread crumbs and mayo all in one "kit". That's what I eat for lunch almost every single day of my life. A large green salad with no fat Thousand Island dressing, a "plop" of tuna salad in the middle and about 5 olives on the side.

I think it's how the tuna is prepared/packed into the cans. It used to come out in a single "lump" that had to be flaked. Now there are very few "lumps" in the can. I think it also used to say something like "solid pack" on the label. I have one can of Bumble Bee white in the cupboard that says solid, but I can guarantee that it will be soupy! I just checked an old recipe that says "1 can (7oz) tuna" - all the current cans say "6oz".
