Do you like to camp? Not me!

I didn't think I'd enjoy tent camping but ended up loving it. :) Summer before last we went almost every weekend. Our friends had a pop-up and we had a large tent with air mattresses. Kids had a blast! We also camp a few times a year with the in-laws in their RV.

I love camping! Taking in the scents and sounds of tranquil, peaceful nature.....cooking over an open fire........(nothing like bacon cooked on an open fire) gazing at a star filled sky with no pollution blocking the way.......and when it rains...climbing into the tent and playing board games or cards, and listening to the sound of the rain on the tent.

Yes! Come this fall, we will drag out our backpacks and load them up with a tent, sleeping bags and mats, compasses, maps, hunting knives, shotguns, an extra change of clothes, a spoon for each of us, an axe, our pans, matches/lighters and food. We'll put the dog's backpacks on them so they can carry their own food. We'll drive about 30 minutes to this very secluded mountain and we'll hike about two miles up to our favorite campsite by a creek, where we will spend about 3-4 days walking the woods and enjoying the scenery, letting the dogs run and run, doing a little hunting for dinner, talking around a campfire at night and being away from the WORLD. No tv, no traffic, no phones, no rude people - just the two of us and nature, the way life was meant to be. The only reason we come back is because we can't take more time off work. Last year it snowed while we were camping - it was beautiful. I can't wait to do it again!

p.s. campgrounds and motor homes are NOT camping...

Growing up, our family was campers....but in a camper body on the back of the truck with a toilet. Later, "camping" consisted of sleeping on the boat in the harbor...again with a toilet. LOL

I did the camping thing also with girl scouts in tents; and with a friends family in their pop-up.

Nowadays, we take geocaching weekends (www.geocaching.com).....but DH & I ALWAYS get a hotel with a hot tub for the night. Lots of sore muscles at end of day. Friends say they don't see us as the roughing it type when we say we are going geocaching....then I tell them about the hotel /hottub thing & they get it. LOL

YES! We LOVE to camp. We have a pop-up - without bathroom facilities. We usually camp for a week in June at the beach and then take long weekend trips to the mountains. Just us and nature.
No TV, no telephone - including cell phone (we have one for emergency purposes but it is only turned on to check for messages - which we do not return unless its an emergency), no beepers, etc. We go hiking, play games, whatever is available around us for free. It is inexpensive and we are building wonderful memories with our girls.

I can think of nothing more enjoyable than sleeping in the wilderness.....LODGE:bounce: I don't even like to be outside(except at WDW). :earsboy:

We are not campers. In fact we're leaving in a couple of hours to go to our favorite little motel Up North, near Mackinac Bridge!:smooth:

My family knows better than to talk me into a camping trip! DD and DH go with each other and other people but have stopped asking me! People probably think it's my age, but I remember not liking it even when I was a little girl. It's just that now at this age, I can say, "Forget it!"

I don't mind if bathrooms and showers are close by. I also prefer that the wildlife is friendly to a certain extent, or atleast stays in the woods.

Don't camp on Bear island, lol!;)

I used to enjoy camping, when I was younger.

The last camping trip I went on was a canoeing/camping trip, with DH and a couple of friends. You brought only what you could carry on your back, as there were times we had to portage for several miles.

We would canoe for a few hours, than find a place to set up camp. In the morning, pack everything up, leaving no trace that you've been there, and back into the canoes for the next leg of the trip.

It was an interesting experience, but I think having to do your "business" in a privy box in the woods (and seeing a mouse run into it just as you're going to sit down...lol.. ), was enough of a wilderness experience for me!!

Now I prefer the comfy beds at the Swan!!

I'm a camper!! DS's and DH are more into roughing it tho, carry it on their backs and walk up mountains... when I went on a weekend with a troop,DS had everything (pillow, sleeping bag etc) in ONE BAG! Ha, I bring the bare necissities and filled the back of the van (and that means I had to take out that third bench!) LOL, I have a huge rubbermaid container with my "embellishments" silk flowers, a nice candle (just for outdoors) my buffaloes... gallons of water... oh did I mention I have a coleman queen size air mattress (think aero bed!)

Yep, and on Thursday I get to pack it up and head up to see the boys - I have a "5 man" tent, that fits ME nicely! Last year ds was going to invite his gf to come up and watch the show they put on - and was it ok if she and her friend (its a 6 hour drive) stayed in my tent - umm ok,but son, a 5 man tent isnt big enough for 3 girls, trust me!

I bring a comfy chair, a nice romance novel, and plenty of bug spray and s'mores! and love watching the boys grow, figure things out (like do NOT pour bug spray on a fire!) Life is good

forgot to mention, when using an outhouse, make sure to make lots of noise, kick things, and never assume there isnt a mouse inside the toilet paper roll... just sayin...

LOL! :)

I wish it had been something as luxurious as an outhouse! It was just a wooden box, on a hill, in the woods. You brought your own toilet paper (one roll per backpack), and had to wear a headlamp, to be able to see where you were 'going'.

btdt, I was MUCH younger tho, now its a luxury to have the outhouses!! - wait, you didnt dig your own? and when ds and dh do that rough'n backpack, its what every they bring in, they have to pack out - everything! THAT's not my idea of camping!!

we call chipmunks, "mini - bears" because they get into everything, we make the kids put all food in our car when not in use, but some kids llike to try the 'bear' bags, throwing backpacks up a tree on a rope line, those cute mini bears love to get in them!!

and there is no better view of the stars than camping!

I'm spoiled and pampered too, but I LOVE camping!! :teeth:

DH and I started with a big tent, then "graduated" to a pop-up when the kids were little. Camped in that for many years, until they were both old enough where they didn't want to go with us anymore. Then we stepped up to a 5th-wheel and we are on our second one of those now. We have a living room with slide-out for the couch and dinette, kitchen with built-in microwave, bedroom with a queen-size bed, and a full bathroom. All the "comforts of home" and more, because the camper has air conditioning, our house doesn't!! :)

We go as often as we can during the camping season, but it's never enough. Can't wait until we can semi-retire and spend MORE time traveling around the country with our camper!!!

I love camping more then anything else. I always fly back to Wisconsin for 2 weeks in August to head up north just to camp. We camp at a state campground right on a lake. No electricity or showers, lol you bathe in the lake. All our meals are cooked over a campfire. I make a great cake and great bread in my reflector oven.
