Do you like to camp? Not me!

My husband has been doing Indian Guides and Indian Princesses with the children for a number of years now (although they can't be called Indian or have any association with Indians now because the Indians complained-- but I digress!) Anyhow they "camp" in longhouses-- father/daughter and father/son. My husband has mentioned that it would be fun to go camping a few times so I bought him a nice tent from LlBean which he is trying out tonight in the backyard with the kids. I don't know how long they'll last out there but they sure are excited. I have no interest AT ALL in camping. I am a hotel gal. I like to be pampered and stay in beautiful resorts with lots of ammenities and plush rooms. I don't like the bug aspect of camping either. What camp are you in?

Love the IDEA of it, but when I actually get there, I wonder where the closest Marriott is.;)

I don't like to rough it either that's why when DS and I do go camping, we go to Fort Wilderness! They have the nicest comfort stations there and the campfire program is wonderful! Not to mention Trail's End and Crockett Tavern...Did I mention the Electrical Water Parade on the beach and a short, 10 minute ride over to MK????:D :D :D (This is the only place I would camp!!!!:D )

TC:cool:

We have a motorhome and love to camp at Fort Wilderness! We'll be headed that way this Dec. Can't wait!

DW keeps trying to convince me to go camping (she grew up doing it) but she has yet to do so and I think she'll have more success trying to get me on a boat which I don't see happening :crazy2: unless the price is right

DS & I do go camping in Maine at least once every summer.
My idea of camping is a cabin w/a bathroom and kitchenette! (The campground where we stay has a waterslide built into a hill)

I camp and enjoy it

It came in handy a few years ago when I got booted from my apartment

No I do not like to camp. And I live in an area where everyone loves to camp, but me. No fifth wheel, no self contained, no pop up; tried it and just am not a camper! :)

No way, no how!
In fact we got invited up to our neighbors campground today...I sent DH with the kids. ;) I just dont like the dirty, woodsy, buggy areas. And this is just a day trip.
Now if we were talking about an overnight thing, I think I would have a complete panic attack. My neighbor was telling me about a place they are going in a few weeks in just their pop up trailer and their truck...it has no water hook ups or anything. They have to walk to a bath house and pay to take a shower. OMG, you could not pay me enough money to do that. I cant imagine anyone would consider that vacation. It would completely stress me out.

NO NO NO NO NO

Can't stand the woods, bugs, skeeters, port-a-potties, noway! no how!

Had to go camping for 3 days back in college as part of traditions (dumb traditions)... I tell you, I didn't go potty for 3 days. Worst 3 days of my life!

I love to go camping. I will say though that I did NOT stay out all night when we pitched a tent in the backyard. That is not camping and IMO, it seemed a little ridiculous to stay out there all night when I could crawl into a nice big soft bed. Both of my children joined me in the house and my husband ended up staying out there all alone. I do think he managed his way in around 4 or 5 am. LOL

If I'm going to camp though, we must be camping at a place where you can swim. We like to go to Maryland at times and we like to camp at our local lake and we take our boat with us. It's really fun.

Camping when it's just woods to look at (like a lot of people I know do) trees and enjoy nature is not my idea of a good time.

My idea of roughing it is when the Marriott runs out of clean towels! Camping is something I never did care for--the bugs, dirt, port-a-potties, etc. But here's something no one else on this thread has touched on--security. In this day and age security is something that should concern everyone. There's just too many nuts out there for me to feel safe lying down to sleep without a locked door between me and the world. I don't even feel safe in a motel with exterior corridors. I just couldn't sleep at night knowing the only thing between me and whatever nut case that happens to wander by is a tent flap!: cared1: :charac4: :sad2::scared1:

You know I thought about taking the kids camping a couple of weeks ago and mentioned it to my Mom and a few others and they are still laughing at the thought of me out in the woods, in a tent, with no electicity, running water or a bathroom. My Mom will still call me randomly hysterically laughing about a "visual" she just had of me camping. Needless to say, we did not go-went the hotel route instead. Just call me spoiled or pampered but not outdoorsy. ::yes::

No Dh and I definetely hate camping. My idea of really roughing it is the holiday inn too. DH was in the civil air patrol so he had enough of it. One of the ds likes to camp in the back yard too. Thats the only place I'll let him go. I do like the outdoors and we all love to fish etc. but I want a nice cozy bed, good hot shower etc. A whole group at our church love it, I jokingly call them the camping clique, they cant understand why the rest of us dont love camping. Hmm, lets see, some of them just got back and like 3 of them had pneumonia., not from tent camping either. To each his own.

I did want to comment on the port-a-pottie issue. I've NEVER camped where I've had to use one. If you're at a nice campground, they should all have bath houses. Now, I have been known to pee in the woods, ROFL, in the middle of the night, but no port a potties.

As for the security issue, I'm not as fearful of people as I am from animals that might smell your food. We went to Maryland this one time and this racoon ripped by brothers brand new tent to get some food. I'm glad I wasn't in the tent that houses the food! :rotfl:

I consider staying in a hotel without room service to be roughing it. Camping is out of the question. :hyper:

I like it -- as long as I'm in an RV with A/C. No tent camping for me ... those days ended for me about 5 years ago with my last, "it's too stuffy, too stiffling, no air in here!" asthma attack! Stuffy, hot, no air, sleeping on the rough ground, hot, hot HOT ... no thanks. Nice campground, electric, water hook up, refrigerator, A/C, surrounded by woods, swimming pool, restaurants, really nice shower/bath houses, outside grill and picnic table, and I'm fine. So I guess I half way like camping. :lol

Every year for a vacation, my parents loaded up the station wagon with food, pots and pans, blankets, sheets, etc. and took us to a state park cabin. None of the state park cabins had indoor plumbing at that time. If we were lucky, there was a bathhouse nearby with flush toilets. If not, it was an outhouse - and the outhouse was usually at the top of a hill. It wasn't quite camping since we weren't in a tent or camper, but it was close enough for me.

I have no desire to relive my youth. When I'm on vacation, I want a comfortable bed - not a mattress covered in vinyl - and I want to cook very little - and I want indoor plumbing.
