We went to get our taxes done a few weeks ago with our accountant..just her and her husband in their office. It was SO quiet! Oh my gosh, you could hear a pin drop in there. I couldn't stand it! It was bugging me just for the hour we were there. There is no way I could work like that all day. So what about everyone else? Do you like silence or does it bug you too?

NO! I hate it!!! I have to have *something* running, all the time - if I dont have music on at work, Ill put my fan on.

And I cant sleep in silence either - I have a white noise machine.

I HATE DEAD SILENCE! :badpc:

I have tinnitus (constant ringing in the ears) so I don't remember the last time I actually "heard" silence but it would be so nice! I like a bit of hustle and bustle but to not hear anything for just a little while would be great. :sad1:

I Hate is
DH bought me a machine to make noise
so I can sleep better at night
I have it on the rain setting
but before that i had to have a fan or something on

Total silence creeps me out

No, I need to have some noise going on, I can't stand silence. I also don't like to be alone, so maybe the background noise helps me to feel like I have some company.

I work in an office full of women :surfweb: . Any moment of complete silence is greatly welcomed. :rotfl:

Me too! It just seems weird. When I'm in the house, I have to have something on, and usually it's the small tv in the kitchen. I hardly ever watch it, but having the background noise on makes my world okay. :goodvibes

Sometimes my husband works from home and when he does, it's always totally silent, and it drives me crazy! I don't know how he can work with so much quiet!!

I hate it when it is too quiet. I usually have to turn on the TV or radio for background noise. Even when studying for college classes I had to turn on the radio. I do like it to be quiet when I sleep, but I don't think I could sleep in complete silence. Maybe I'd like one of those white noise machines.

It depends - when I'm sleeping I need total and complete silence. Also, during the day I don't mind as long as my mind is occupied with work, a book, or whatever. However, if I'm just puttering around the house I can't stand total silence - it makes me feel like the apocalypse has come. :lmao: I like to hear signs of life around the neighborhood and if I can't hear that I'll turn on the TV.

my mom made me have complete silence when I did my homework. I blame her now b/c, when I work, I have to have complete silence as well.

The sound machine's are an absolute miracle - in a cute little plug-in gadget! I LOVE THEM!

Not only can they be used for a gentle soothing background - I take it with me on vacation, and I cant hear any of our neighbors (especially when we were at ASt & POP) when in our room - it drowns them out. I  THEM!

I enjoy complete silence. I feel like I can catch my breath. There's just soo much going on around me all the time that when it all stops it's just heaven

I love silence. When there's too much going on noise-wise, it gets me stressed.

As a CPA specializing in tax prep, I can tell you that with the current tax laws I need to focus 100% on the returns I am preparing. One slight change on one line of the tax return can have repercussions on a dozen different forms/schedules. I also have to know that if line x has an entry forms x, y, z & maybe abc or def are required. It makes me :crazy2: ok -crazier!
Your tax preparer needs silence - bet there is an industrial sized bottle of pain killer near by too.
This is known as "tax law simplification" :rotfl2:
:surfweb: - this is what I will look like for the next 6 weeks.
Now back to work for me!

I always used to want some background noise, the radio, the tv- but in the last 5 years I much prefer silence. Might have something to do with three non-stop talking kids! When the last one is off to school in the morning it's BLISSFUL around here. Until the dog finds something to bark at, of course.

count me in. I can't stand silence. I always have the tv a radio on. Even when I am trying to fall asleep I have to put the tv on with a timer to shut itself off.

Sometimes I just crave silence. It eases me.

CathrynRose, what brand of small sound machine do you have? Mine sits on the night stand, but is too large to travel with. I haven't found a small one with a good quality sound.

Thank you.

How funny. I thought there was something wrong with ME. Complete silence makes me extremely uncomfortable.

Was just thinking about this yesterday because I stopped in a pet store that had nothing - no music - no sound. I couldn't wait to get out of there.

Usually I'm cool with just some music or something. Since I got my MP3 player, it's stuck in my ears most of the time. People are getting annoyed with me.

Only time I like total silence is outdoors in nature, but that's not really silence anyway - birds, water, wind, bugs (aaaah...spring)
