Just out of curiosity... do you leave any lights on at night, and if so, in what rooms?

I've never been in the habit of leaving lights on at night. It's always seemed like a total waste of electricity (money). I HAVE noticed that most of my neighbors do leave a light on all night long in at least one room.

I've always had the mentality that I know where my light switches are, and I know where my walls/doorways/furniture are. Last night, however, I woke from a dead sleep and wanted a glass of water. I made my way into the kitchen, but I felt lost, I was so tired. Then, at 6am, I woke to open the garage door and unlock the back door for DH, and I STILL felt lost in the dark.

I am now thinking a few nightlights might be in order in the hallway and kitchen.

How about you?

Usually not. Although a few weeks ago we found out our 11 Y.O. had been sleeping with the TV on because she was afraid of the dark???? So we put a decorative light in her bathroom so she could have a little light. I turn it off when I get up at 4 am.

DD and her DH leave the light on over the stove at night - on low..

When I'm at the lake, I don't leave any lights on.. Probably couldn't sleep if I did..

We put a dimmer switch on our upstairs hall light. We turn it very low and leave it on all night. Since the stairway is open to the 1st floor, it gives enough light both upstairs and down that you can see enough to get around.

I can imagine it's probably GREAT for sleeping! I love a pitch black room for sleeping! :thumbsup2

Yes, we are gulity of leaving lights on overnight. My kids are scared of the dark.

I leave the lights on in my bathroom, the closet/hallway between my bedroom and my bathroom as well as a smaller light in the kitchen.

I leave one light on in my house and that is in the bathroom by my kids bed rooms. This way they have a light in case they wake up in the middle of the night. Mostly it is for my son because he still will come into my room and it lights the hallway enough for him to see.

We have three LED nightlights with sensors. I don't want my kids tumbling down the stairs in the dark.

We leave a night light on in the bathroom, for late night trips. But my bedroom is pitch black, I even have to turn my digital clock away from me so I don't see the glow on the numbers.

We always leave a few on downstairs in the living room/kitchen area.

I do that too only I'm twice her age :)

But I leave it on because it's really hard for me to sleep without familiar noise. By familiar noise I mean, an episode of Friends that I have seen 50 times (for example); it's noise that stops me from thinking (which prevents me from sleeping) but it's a story I have heard before and therefore do not have to see the outcome. Movies work too. Music does not.

I put the TV on sleep 45 though but the DVD player stays on all night.

I used to not leave lights on but as I've gotten older I don't see as well and I"
m a little more off-balance when I have to get up. I leave the range hood light on, what is it 25 watts? It shines just enough light to see in the kitchen and up the stairway, so nobody takes a flying leap off the top landing. Works for us!

We usually leave on at the bottom of the stairs. If anyone needs to come downstairs at night it is just too dark. Oh, and the light over our deck because the stupid dog is afraid of the dark. :lmao:

I have someone who would still be in our room if we didn't leave at least one light on. It's worth it!

We don't keep any lights on at all. My 9 dd sleeps with a flash light that she uses if she get up to go to the bathroom.

The rest of us just use our night vision to get to the bathroom , don't even turn that light on in there enough light from the windows.

I am always after the kids to turn lights out. I don't even leave the outside lights on unless we are going out and coming back in the dark. Don't need to light up the neighbourhood I leave that up to our neighbour theirs is on all day and night sometimes. :lmao:

We have a nightlight in each hallway near the bathroom in case someone needs to get up in the middle of the night. The ones we have can either rotate through red, blue, green, white or purple or you can pick a color and it'll stay that one color all night. Red is the dimmest, white the brightest; it's nice to have the ability to adjust the settings. They also automatically turn off when they detect a certain amount of light from a window or a regular light.
