We are at the preschool apple picking trip today and I turn around and my friend is half in a hole half out flat on her back! First I was :scared1: but then I was:rotfl2: Now I do feel bad for her and I think she broke her leg and I would have taken her to the hospital- but she called a friend to come get her(do you think it was the laughing:rotfl2: )
Once I saw she was really hurt I stopped laughing but I have to say my first instict when I see an adult friend fall is to giggle.
Am I going to hell?

When we were horseback riding on vacation in NH 2 years ago, dh was in front of me. This was only the 2nd time we had been on horses so we were complete novices. DH's saddle wasn't tight enough and it turned on the horse dumping dh on the ground. He got up quickly so I knew he was ok and then I couldn't stop laughing. I told him I wished I had it on video for our friends!

I fell on ice on my front steps a few years back. I had recently had knee surgery so it was very painful. I crawled up the 3 stairs and banged on my front door. My sister (who was living with us) opened the door and started to laugh at me. Even when she realized it was serious, a few more laughs escaped from her.

In my family, short of permanent damage, you are laughed at. As I am a very clumsy person I provide my siblings with hours of enjoyment.

depends if they are hurt or not.

I will say that I took a really bad fall at downtown disney and DH couldn't stop laughing at me and I was hurt! Now about 15 months later I laugh too but it wasn't funny then!

I cannot imagine laughing at anyone who falls down. But then again, I've always hated The Three Stooges type of humor.

A friend of mine fell while running to catch an airport shuttle bus. He really really banged his leg/knee up badly. He was so mad because everyone on the bus was laughing at him...except the kind older lady who gave him kleenex to wipe up the blood that was pouring out of his leg. How is that funny?

OMG, are you in the doghouse with her!!! ::yes::

I don't usually laugh. My ds is forever laughing & I tell him he's gonna end up getting punched out someday. :sad2:

The other day we were in the pool and my ds threw the ball & hit my dh in the head-- didn't hurt, but OMG I could not stop laughing. My dh was furious at me and for some reason that made me laugh harder. I felt so bad, but it was sooooo funny. I was laughing so hard I was crying. :confused3

No, I never laugh when something like that happens.

I don't see the humor in it.
I know I would not want someone laughing at me if the situation were reversed.

There are a few first graders in my class that laugh when something UN-FUNNY happens (someone's lunchbox spills open, someone trips, etc.) & believe me...I will be breaking them of that habit real quick!!

I don't laugh, at least not at first. Maybe later if the person is OK but too many people I know are at a higher-than-normal risk of serious injuries and internal bleeding just from a fall, so my initial reaction is concern. Once every thing's OK, we laugh to get past the embarrassment.

Oh no! I always feel so bad for whoever fell down. Even if they aren't hurt!

I detect a marked difference in reactions! If there are any Psychology majors out there, this would be a good topic to research!

Ahh... reminds me of one of my favorite quotations

Tragedy is when I cut my finger. Comedy is when you walk into an open sewer and die.

I never laugh at someones accident. I really don't understand why it would be considered funny. :confused3 I do my best to treat them like I would want to be treated. I check to make sure they're ok, I sympathize with them, I help them pick up what they dropped, etc... But to laugh at someones misfortune seems cruel to me.

No, NEVER! I am also of the mindframe that there is no humor in it, even if the person isn't hurt. Interestingly enough, we've been having this conversation in our house very recently because DH's whole family is the type to laugh uproariously when someone get's hurt. Dh himself doesn't anymore, though. ;)

It actually depends on the fall.... for example, this morning I was in Target, and this lady slipped and fell because the floor was wet. Certainly was no laughing matter.. she ended up with a bad injury to her knee... However, with that said, I certainly do have room for the humor of a good (non-injury bearing) fall! Heck, I laugh at myself ALL the time! :rotfl2:

Yes, I often laugh while I'm asking if they are okay. :confused3 I think it's sort of a nervous reaction. If I can tell it's something serious, I wouldn't laugh.

Actually, thinking about it, I am a trip-and-fall type person and I'd rather someone laugh than act all concerned. It makes me feel less stupid for falling down. Maybe that's why I tend to laugh?

My sentiments exactly. DH thinks that type of stuff is hilarious. He also finds Monkeys entertaining.

This is why I hate the "Home Alone" movies. The little boy does so many things to the guys trying to break into the house that would KILL them in real life...yet we're supposed to laugh at it...:confused3

I'll confess - I'm a laugher. Usually I'm shocked first but unless the person really seems like they are badly hurt, I laugh.

One time we were at ds's college family weekend and we were in the auditorium to hear a speaker. When we were leaving DH tripped on one of the mats on the gymnasium floor and I almost fell on the floor I was laughing so hard. DH didn't think it was so funny and got himself worked up into a snit which I just found even more funny and laughed even harder!

So I guess I'm going to hell with you.
