Do You Know Your Iq Score?

As the daughter of a well-recognized Child shrink, I was subjected to more IQ tests during my childhood than one could possibly imagine :teeth:

One has to remember, that an IQ score is only a measure of potential, not success. Many of the IQ elite go on to fail in their life, while many in the 'average' range go on to become huge successes and vice versa. There is way more in achieving success in life than just your IQ score.

In fact, you can no longer classify a person as mentally ******** based on IQ score alone. The DSM now also requires an asessment of adaptive functioning before labeling someone ********. However, adaptive functioning assessment is not currently required for labelling the other side of the bell curve, the geniuses. But many in the psychological world think adding this criteria would yield a more accurate assessment.

The online IQ tests are just games. They cannot accurately score nor predict your actual IQ. That has to be done by a standardized IQ test, done by a licensed professional.

Of all the tests out there- the Stanford-Binet and the Wechsler Adult and Children Scales are the two that are most used by private psychologists and many school psychologists.

Just for the record, my mother will test a 5 year old, but will always say that the results are not an accurate indicator of intelligence because a 5 year old is just too young. Between 7 and 15 are the best years to test, at least according to her set of colleagues.

As for IQ - normal is set at 100 with a standard deviation of 15 or 16 depending if you are using the Stanford-Binet or the Wechsler. Most of the population has an IQ between 85 and 115, which is considered "average" intelligence.

Less than 2% of the population has an IQ more than 128 and less than .1% of the population has an IQ above 140. And less than .01% has a genius IQ of over 160
0.

This person is correct. Glad my %'s weren't THAT far off. I would like to have my DD10 tested. I live in OC CA...any recommendations on where to take her?

I peg her in the 120's, would like to see though.

Can you imagine anyone ever wanting to really claim that he/she is "a member of the High IQ Society :snooty:." That name sounds like something from a comedy sketch.
:rotfl2: :rotfl2:

My Ex-H has a Stanford score of 142. He said he'll never forget going into his financial advisor's office and seeing the well placed, neatly framed MENSA certificate on the wall and thinking...what a DO*CHE!!!! :rotfl:

I sort of feel attacked.

I was tested for IQ very early in life as all of a sudden in second grade I could no longer do math. Now, had they thought of asking me I would have explained that I didn't WANT to subtract and WAS NOT going to but the powers that be decided that I was experiencing a mental deficit and needed testing. They were quite surprised at the result at the time which was 174. All throughout school, college, etc, I did excell as those types of things came quite easy to me. But I tell you that to tell you this: my brother was tested at the very same age three years later and his IQ was identical to mine. He struggled with every day of school, and got through it all barely. The difference was in application and focus. He is as successful today in life as I am.

I by no means believe I am superior to anyone with a lower number on any test, quite frankly I am quite certain if I'm clicking at average intelligence on any given day I'm lucky.

Obviously the results of this test are very inaccurate and I would not think serve any relevance other than to fuel fires like this one.

As for IQs not being in excess of 160, I hope that you realize there are IQ values in excess of 160 which are accurate. While many various tools exist to measure IQ, I would assume that all have similar ranges. I do know a few people with valid IQs in excess of 160...

I was thinking the cut for MENSA was 124? I don't remember anymore...

The results of this test I thought were for fun, and I didn't mean to expose myself to any attack. Sorry for those I've offended. Again.........

Pelase don't feel attacked. I am sorry if I am responsibile in any way for making you feel that was. I was the first to post how inaccurate this test is. I wasn't aiming it at you or anyone in particular. I was just pointing out tht it was innaccurate and kind of ridiculous.

BTW- I think Mensa is like the top 2% (?) of any recognized stardardized test, i.e. California Core testing or Star testing. Although I think it is a bit higher than 124 on the Stanford - Binet.

And for all of those in MENSA--good for you...I was poking fun of my Ex-H's fianncial advisor hanging his certificate on the wall, not becuase he's in it, but b/c he was putting it in people's faces...like look at me...how smart I am...and superior to you...

Funny about the MENSA cert on the wall. How different. My dd has no idea what she scored when I had her tested...she is in 9th grade currently...jsut never saw the need to tell her. BTW, we had her tested because of BAD things, not good. Although good things resulted from it. She IS above 160 on the Stanford-Binet LM (at the time, had to do that to raise the ceiling present in other tests like Weschler). She was also tested with the WISC-III so that subtest scatter could be evaluated, sometimes this can help ID learning disabilities.

Oh, and just to mention an interesting point, dd is very ADHD, and the tester stopped her Stanford-Binet LM when they passed 160, saying that was all we needed. Even that took several days and several appointments. The school, of course, said that the score "Doesn't look right. We think her IQ is more like 125-130." WHO CARES, was my point.

As far as IQ and academics and socialization, dd had a miserable time in school because the other kids didn't understand her at all. She described herself at age 7 as "Wierd." "Nobody gets my jokes." She began hiding in the bushes during recess every day, because she didn't like the giggling and chasing around and playing Pokemon. She was grade-skipped, and academically became much much happier. Socially, she didn't exactly fit in, but at least people "got" her better. We have taken her education one day at a time. She will go to college, but we will work around her age (she will graduate at 16 at the oldest). Commute, internship, year abroad as Exchange Student, whatever.

I am just rambling here. Not sure why, sorry! Just wanted to say that extremes in IQ are not always a "gift." Maybe I'll let her try the linked test from the OP, see how she does. Just for fun, because that is what it is...and that is what I took the OP's intent to be.

Thanks for the link and the discussion! I am avoiding homework (can you all tell?)

This board has it on good authority that Mensans have six figure jobs working at the Sonic drive through.

Only 116, I'm disappointed. But I had to click past the "which one comes next" to run and do something. But in all honestly, that part was kicking my butt. I think I did best on the visual one.

But I wonder what my mom would make - she'd blow it out. Too bad I didn't inherit her intelligence!

Just got off the phone with my nephew like 2 minutes ago. I asked if he knows his IQ score by any chance. He told me he was 135 when he took the MENSA test 4 years ago(when he's 16). He's junior at Columbia University double major in Bio-engineering and Computer Science. A very smart kid (even if he didn't score higher than a lot of you)
IMO, all of you out there reading this thread are quite intelligent. Don't swear about your score being lower than others. B/C it never really matters anyway.

Well I must be the only dumb dora on the entire disboard site. :rotfl2: I scored a 97, oh well, I may be dumb but I don't lie. :teeth:

Edited for spelling....

thanks TIff, I've always had a higher paranoia score than anything else anyway;............

I have scored anywhere between 128 and 144..I really wonder how accurate any of these tests are that you find online.

That's where I have scored in the past. Since it seems to fluctuate so much, I just like to tell people my high score - 145. :)

Ok, I bit the bullet and took the test. I got 138. Since I was having a hard time focusing and there were two questions I pretty much just said "forget it" and guessed at, I have my doubts on how accurate this is.

If my score is actually 138, I'm even more disgusted with myself for not being more successful.

Does knowing one's IQ actually serve any purpose? It makes some people smug, some under-whelmed and some upset, but do we even want to run the risk of the latter?
