Do you know your car's license plate number without looking it up?

I do know our current car's number, but not the truck (for towing RV).

Generally I try to make a word, or phrase, out of the license number to remember it. But it doesn't always work, so I typically don't remember it. One reason I lean toward personalized plates, but the one I wanted for our current car wasn't available.

License plates in California stay with a car for life. The plates on my 1965 had been on it since 1965. Allegedly having the original plates adds about $1,000 value to a classic car.
I know that plate number. Our two other cars are easy to remember as they are personalized plates and have been transferred over from previous cars.
Some of the parking lots at Sacramento International airport (economy lots) require you to enter your plate. And some of the newer parking meters in Downtown Sacramento have one central payment station per block, and you put in your money or credit card, and enter your license plate number.
I can remember the license numbers of all five cars that were my commuter cars over the last 50 years. I do NOT however, remember the original license numbers on the plates issues with my second third and fourth car as they were only on the cars a few months before I got personalized plates.
For some reason I still remember the license plate number from my mom's 1960 Buick and dad's 1960 Ford! I was three when they bought those cars.

I have no idea what mine is, it's easier to recognize because it's the special edition thats has a cat and dog on it (that I end up paying like an extra $40 per year). As far as the number, I have absolutely no idea what that is.

When I lived in IL.... "back in the day" as long as your plate# ended with a number, it was free to have personalized. Eventually they started charging for that unfortunately.

Yes, I’ve had the same one for years. DH got a new car with new plates last year and I made a point to memorize it, since I also sometimes drive it.

However…the license plate number appears on the registration card for the vehicle, which I carry with me at all times. So even if I forgot, I could take that out of my wallet and look. I would assume this is standard information, unless other states are different?

Yes, I know my current plate. I’ve had it for over 25 years, on four different cars. The physical plate was reissued to me when I got my current car, but it’s the same number as before.

I know mine and DH's, and I could tell you the letters of DS's, but I'm not sure of the numbers.

Didn't vote in the poll because my honest answer is "sometimes". If I've recently been in a parking situation where I needed to enter it, yes, I'll remember it. If it's been a few months, I'll definitely need to check. I keep a picture of my license plate on my phone for just that purpose.

Although a fun topic, it seems to me that someone is fishing for information. Fortunately the actual number wasn't asked for but some have posted it. If you have I recommend that you go back in and delete the number. A simple yes or no and a simple statement as to whether or not you do know it will be fun without exposing your plate number which is easy to search for names and addresses.

By the way, I voted YES. It's a small number so easy for me remember. At least at this point!

P.S. I do know that something is going on because I keep getting notifications from Malware that they have blocked something on this site.

I have a picture of it on my phone. I have the PaybyPhone app for some parking garages, so it's saved in there too.

I’m a license plate reader. Someday I’m gonna solve a crime 😂. I know mine, DH, my parents and most of my friends license plates. I also notice them when driving and retain them. Pre cancer I had a photographic memory. Post cancer I suffer from chemo fog so it’s not as good but for whatever reason license plates still stick.

I could tell you the plate on my first car from the late '80's. None of them since them

Yes, I've always had a thing for remembering car number plates since I was a kid.🙄

We have personalized plates. When we're on vacation and have a rental car I'm doing well to remember the make, color, and the state it was licensed in.

As the OP, I'm slightly offended at what you're implying. I never asked what anyone's plate number was, and don't remember anyone saying what they were, or even some of the letters, much less the entire thing.

As far as your malware warnings, nothing in this thread is any different than any other threads on here. I don't get warnings, but I also have adblockers running. You may have something going on with your PC.
