If you are speaking of the google banner adds. I am not a techie so they may have better info, They are placed by google by looking at your computer cookies and such. It is technology they developed, but any web based random advertising uses similar methods. I am sure some are random as well, depends who has bought banner adds. But true enough they can be some odd adds generated by these programs and systems.
