Or salt scrub? You know, that thick creamy stuff you rub on and rinse off and it leaves your skin silky smooth? I'd love to make some of that :sunny:

i make a salt scrub to remove paint etc from my hands after work,,, i use tbs salt to tbs dawn dissh liquid for that, how ever it will work with a good liquid soap or body wash too.. not the best but will work. btw if you have alergies that involve sea food or iodine, use plain salt or sugar.

I got this recipe for a Pumpkin Face Scrub from Family Circle in their 1/20/04 issue:

Pumpkin Face Scrub

1 generous tablespoon canned or fresh pumpkin
3 tablespoons buttermilk
1 teaspoon honey
1 teaspoon finely ground almonds

With fingertips, massage into face. Leave on for 5 minutes; rinse well. Finish with moisturizer.

If skin is oily, swap plain yogurt for buttermilk.

Here's a few links I found for recipes:

Honestly just Olive Oil and Kosher Salt. About half and half, add a drop of essential oil for scent (not cinnamon, can burn). This is the best I have ever found and what was used on me the one time I paid big bucks at a fancy salon to have it done (in Chicago).

It should have read: "Honestly, it's just Olive Oil and Salt"

Hope that helps.

Off topic but do you remember how really clean your hands felt when you used that powdered soap they used to put in the Disney washrooms?

This is a recipe for sugar scrub from the Martha Stewart show today:

1 cup sugar
1/2 cup sesame oil
1 tablespoon of lemon zest

You just combine them together and put it in a jar with a lid. Then use it on your face or body after you wash and rinse off. Leaves skin soft...

Mary Kay used to make an AWESOME sugar scrub. I miss it :( Sorry, had to add.

I love the sugar scrub from Basin at downtown Disney. Have to go back soon and get more Sesame body butter, that stuff is great too.

This is one I make from time to time. I get the ingredients in our local health food store

1/2 cup sugar (I buy the store brand not the Domino, it's too fine)
1/4 cup almond liquid soap
Mix together
Rub on hands gently, and then squirt 2-4 squirts of almond oil and rub through hands and arms or legs.
Smells yummy and you can buy whatever kind of soap and oil you like, your skin will be so smooth!

THanks so much for your replies! I can't wait to try this. If it works out, I may even give some to my son's teachers.

Oooh, I am so glad you posted this thread! :cheer2:

I just *loved* that lemon-scented scrub at Basin in DTD, but I couldn't handle the $25-$28 price!

Gonna make some now!

I LOVED that stuff--reminded me of grade school! I was bummed when they replaced with with the liquid soap.

How ironic - I just saw this yesterday on some Martha Stewart show that was on while I was cleaning my living room.

She didn't give any specific measurements but this is what she did:

In a bowl mix:

Regular Granulated Sugar
Sesame Oil
Zest from 1 lemon

She put all the sugar in the bowl, then added the sesame oil slowly until it made a dry paste (not too moist) and then added in the lemon zest. She said to package it in a container and add a tiny bit more sesame oil to help it stay moist and then voila! That's it!!

I think I'm going to make some of these, as well as some sea salt scrubs for x-mas gifts this year. I have some cute small glass jars I can use to package them and buy some scrubby puffs or something from the $1 store - money is tight this year...lots of people are gettting homemade fabric wreaths and sugar scrubs from me as xmas gifts!

Wow. That sounds easy enough to give it a try.
