I had a great uncle Stanley and DH's grandfather was Stanley (Stosh or Stoshu). Both of those men were Polish. My SIL is pregnant and BIL wants to name a boy Stanley after his grandfather and she doesn't agree. I think it is cute!

Yes - the DH of one of my friends is named Stanley - but goes by Stan.

I was going to say that all those Polish Stanleys were probably Stanislaw. My fathers Polish name is Mikaila Valenty. (Not sure about the exact spelling) In English his name is Michael Valentine. He just goes by Michael V. If people ask if his middle name is Victor he just kind of nods. He has always been embarrased that his middle name was Valentine.
