Do you know anyone named Disney?

i know a guy named Superman. Not because his dad was a big fan or anything but because it was his grandfather's pet name for his dad. It's your child name it what you want!

:rotfl2: My husband seriously did not want to use the name because of the Tom Brady and Brady Quinn. He is a Miami Dolphins fan so he hates the Pats and he also hates Notre Dame football with a passion. I refused to let that sway my opinion on a perfectly good name and refused to go to Brody because of that.

:cool1: My husband and I are Miami fans too, although it's been a rough ride since good old #13 left. :sad2: We tend to pull more for the Colts now, so you can imagine how we feel about the name "Brady"! :lmao: I'm sure your son is a lovely person though, so I guess I can make an exception in his case. ;)

Yeah, but if you're serious, can you IMAGINE the hard time this guy had growing up?? Can you imagine his first run-in with the class bully? Or the first time he was introduced to his date's dad?

While I think the decision should be up to the parents alone, I also think they (and I mean all parents, not specifically the OP) need to think about what it will be like for a child, then and adult, living with that name.

If you have your heart set on Disney then go for it. You'll probably always regret it if you listen to others again.

I know a guy named Elmo. It was probably a cute name as a baby but now he's a 40 year old man and it's not so cute. It sounds like he's a freak.

I don't think kids should have first names that are registered trademarks. As I was reading this thread everytime I thought of the name Disney I saw it with the little R in a circle at the end.
Let the child's legal name be something else...you can always call her Disney at home. That's what happened with Miley Cyrus. Her given name was Destiny Hope. She has decided to legally change it to Miley because that's what her parents have always called her. Your child could do that later as well.

My dd is 4 and the names I had picked out for her were Disney Claire and Jackson Walt. People were so mean to me (except my parents and bros and sisters) about it. They were like "why would you want to name your daughter after a theme park". My reasoning was that Walt Disney was an amazing man and I've always looked up to him and I wanted to name my daughter/son after HIM, not the theme park. However I lost the battle and ended up naming her Aislinn Frances.

She is now 4 and is a huge Disney fan just like her mama!

I'm currently pregnant with my #3 (Dh has 1 and I have 1, this is our first together). We got married December 10 at Sea Breeze Point and honeymooned in Disney. We came back with a little souvenir ;) The baby is due in mid-September. I really want to name this one Disney for the same reasons mentioned above and more importantly, is a really special place for us now!

It would certainly be unique. She wouldn't be in class w/3 others, like me and many others. And there would be no doubt where it came from. Here's a bit of trivia for you. There is a town in NE Oklahoma called Disney. Not a big place, to be sure, but it's there.

Congrats on the new person! We didn't peek at our babies either and I'm so glad we waited, it was so much fun, especially making everyone else wait too!

Well sense you asked. Disney as a 1st name, um no. I think that would be harsh for a poor little girl. There are plenty of pretty princess to name her after if you really want to. princess:

My DD's name is Lilian (we call her Lily).

Really to me that would be like calling your kid "House" "Yosemite" or "Utah".

I like Jackson Walt for a boy. :thumbsup2

Heck Minnie would be better. :thumbsup2

As someone with an unusual name I have to say be careful. I like my name now but it was a real pain growing up. No one ever got it right on the 1st try & I got lots of mean comments growing up.
Why not something a little less obvious like Eliza (its close to Elias) or Lillian Marie (the first & middle names of Disneys wife). That way you still have the connection but the names aren't as unique.

I would think of your child and really really think if you'd like to be called Disney if you were a girl. Please take no offense but you did ask. Obviously you are living out YOUR fantasy on your child. Please stick with Disney as a pets name.

I agree with them. It might sound good to you now, but think of your child. I think it's a strange first name for anyone.

PS- I have a gender neutral name, and grew up hating it. Not so much now as an adult, but it still causes me some aggrevation since most see it as a guy name instead of a girls. My parents were trying to give me an edge I guess (born when women's lib was a hot topic in late 60's).

When it comes to really odd or different names, I figure, why make a kids life harder. Life's hard enough as it is. Just my honest opinion, no offense.

My favorite Disney themed name is Lily Belle. Thats the name Walts train that he names after his wife.

Im not having anymore kids though(even if I was Lily is my DDs middle name), but I adore that as a name.

Im all for unusual names though. My sons name is Bowie.

:scared1: I'm sorry but think of your child. Children can be very cruel. You might like it but they will be teased beyond belief. IMHO don't do it.

Halle Berry, from Cleveland, was named after the now non existant Halle's department store in Cleveland. Just a little tidbit of silly info....

I say name the little one Disney!!!! Not quite sure why so many people are against it here....the thing about baby names is that everyone has an opinion about it before they meet the baby. Then you meet the little one and it suits them, no matter what. I had a friend who named her baby Miles and I thought it was just strange, in fact I hated the name and kept thinking of Miles Davis and nothing else. Then I met him, and he was a perfect Miles!

Practice it, write it out a few times and go with your gut. No matter what, your little one will be a perfect little "insert name here!"

Yeah, but Miles is a name that won't cause folks to ask what time is the 3 0'clock parade every time he turns around. Or hey baby, how's about a fast pass.

I was reading the thread to my teen son and his reaction was, " wow, she better be ready to really put up with a lot of grief at school.". Sorry but i think he might be right. i like unique names and wanted to name my son Tyson (yes, like the chicken), and everyone talked me out of it. My son now thanks everyone that helped talk me out of it. I also wanted to name my DD (it was had one) Kreighton.

She might be the type of child that can handle the strong name and love it or she might really have a hard time, i think i would use it as a middle name or choose a less bold statement of her wonderful start in life.

I'm with the group that says don't name after a trademark...It seems to me to be a selfish choice (your favorite place, blah, blah, blah) rather than what a child/adult would choose. Most of the people I know with foolish names go by initials or their middle. That includes the kids.

Disney as a first name? I don't think it is a good idea. Unless of course you are naming your pet.

I say use it as a middle name but you can call her that everyday if you like...

My B-in Law is Patrick John but everyone calls him John now but he was Patty growing up. His Dad is Patrick so they called him Patty,, some still do but he got teased a lot, and then started to use his middle name but found it hard at school to get them to use it since his birth certificate had him listed as Patrick (which he never answered to)

He is convinced that he would have loved it being John Patrick and his family could still call him Patty if they wanted but on drivers licences and such, he could use John...

If you name her Claire Disney Lastname, you and your family can cal her Disney all you want but she can use Claire if she chooses at school...Disney would then be seen as her nickname and easier on her...

This way, you could have your way and she would have an out in the name game in case she wants it...

Just my 2 cents,

Congrats :)

Oh no. If you insist upon naming your child Disney, please just do it as a middle name only! My Dad was given a nickname for Richard that, at that time, the nickname was the norm. Nowadays it's a slang word used for a guy's parts. Combine that with our last name, which sounds exactly like Clay the American Idol singer and you see what can come of name choice.

And when my friends learned that I was named after my Dad, but went by the other nickname for Richard, hence Rick, nevertheless they chose to call me the other. Absolutely horrified me as a kid. I laugh about it now but back then, I wanted to bury my head in the sand.

And for those that can't quite figure out my Dad's name, PM me. :rotfl:

I'm going to have to vote no. My child has an unusual name but it's not to that level. While my daughter will have to correct the spelling of her name for the rest of her life...she will not get teased (hopefully) about it. I think Disney as a first name will definately get her teased. Let's face it...kids are cruel. Stick with it as a middle or nickname.
