Do you know anyone named Disney?

My dd is 4 and the names I had picked out for her were Disney Claire and Jackson Walt. People were so mean to me (except my parents and bros and sisters) about it. They were like "why would you want to name your daughter after a theme park". My reasoning was that Walt Disney was an amazing man and I've always looked up to him and I wanted to name my daughter/son after HIM, not the theme park. However I lost the battle and ended up naming her Aislinn Frances.

She is now 4 and is a huge Disney fan just like her mama!

I'm currently pregnant with my #3 (Dh has 1 and I have 1, this is our first together). We got married December 10 at Sea Breeze Point and honeymooned in Disney. We came back with a little souvenir ;) The baby is due in mid-September. I really want to name this one Disney for the same reasons mentioned above and more importantly, is a really special place for us now!

...and everyone has one, of course, is that Disney would be better served as a middle name.

And, um, Jackson is a boy's name - no offense. I'm sure there are girl Jackson's out there, but to me, it would be like naming a boy "Sue".

Jackson was in case she was a boy. We didn't know gender until she was born.

I like Jackson Walt but kinda on the fence about the first name being Disney. But you have to go with what you like

I think Disney is just fine for a name. Its something that not to many people have, and it sounds nice. If you look at the other thread asking if anyone concived in Disney, called Has anyone ever....... someone said that they know of someone who met in Disneys opening week, married, and named their first son Disney. Do whatever you want!
And don't worry about what other people think, for goodness sakes, I know someone who named their son Huckelbee!!!! At least Disney has a special meaning to you.

Okay, I misunderstood... glad you weren't considering Jackson for a girls' name. :rotfl:

Jackson Walt has a great ring to it. As for Disney; meh. I'm picky about names, anyway, so why am I posting to this thread?

We had picked out Elias William as and option for our son who was recently born. We ended up with Ryder instead because my husband wanted RY to go with his name (Ryan.) If we have another boy, we'll keep Elias as an option though. I do like Disney as a girl's name and never even imagined it until reading this thread, but I bet she would get a lot of teasing like Dissy or Ditzy above and beyond all of the questions about being named after a park (because most people will think of the park before the man behind it!) I do like "Disney" names though.

As someone with an unusual name I have to say be careful. I like my name now but it was a real pain growing up. No one ever got it right on the 1st try & I got lots of mean comments growing up.
Why not something a little less obvious like Eliza (its close to Elias) or Lillian Marie (the first & middle names of Disneys wife). That way you still have the connection but the names aren't as unique.

What's your name? I grew up with an unusual name, too and ended up really loving it as I got older.

Actually I think it's a pretty name.

But I would still hesitate about using it as a first name. Knowing how cruel kids can be, I would worry about some mean 10 year old boy giving my 7 year old daughter a hard time one the bus or something-- kind of like the comments you received from friends, but with more of an edge to them. ("Which were you named after: Mickey Mouse or Donald Duck?" "You're named after a PARK-- what's your brother's name: Six Flags?" type of stuff"

Personally, I think I would choose it as a middle name.

That said, she's your daughter and you've got to go with what you love!

congrats!!!

I would think of your child and really really think if you'd like to be called Disney if you were a girl. Please take no offense but you did ask. Obviously you are living out YOUR fantasy on your child. Please stick with Disney as a pets name.

But Disney isn't an unusual name. It's a very famous person's last name and an extremely famous International Landmark. Everyone who ever hears your child's name will know that you named her after Mom/Dad's favorite place. And what's worse is your child will know daily were she was concieved. Kinda gross IMHO.

I agree -- I know tons of people who name their kids Presley (boys and girls) -- I can't help but think of Elvis --

I have meet a Disney before. It was when I worked at the Disney Store and she came in and filled out an application. Some of the other castmembers gave her a hard time (in a nice way) about if that was really her name. She showed us her drivers license and sure enough it was.

I think it's cute! My dh is so sick of Disney that he forbid me to use any Disney name for my girls. I have always loved the name Ariel but no go because it's Disney.

:confused3 I don't think that knowing where you were conceived is 'gross'. I was conceived on my parents vacation, too, and I don't think of it as 'gross'.

I know of a lot of people named Disney, but it's their surname. This is Missouri, there are a lot of Disneys here. In fact, there is a W.E. Disney listed in the Kansas City white pages -- want to bet what that person's first and middle names probably are?

I think I'd use it as a middle name. As a first name it lends itself too much to being nicknamed Ditsy Disney.

I would also think that it's one of those names where people will read it and transpose the letters; in this case, to Sidney. My mother had this problem, her name was Bridie, but people were always reading that as Birdie.

I say go for it. I let people change my mind and didn't name my DS8 what I really wanted to name him. I have regretted it ever since! I think Disney is adorable for a girl. Besides withe the utterly CRAZY names people are coming up with these days, by the time she's in school, her name will probably not even be an issue! And if you're concerned, give her a more standard middle name to go by if she wants to when she gets older.

I think she'd be teased as a child and I would worry about being taken seriously as an adult. It's cute for a small child, but hard to be taken seriously if you're trying to make it as an attorney or stock broker... (insert any non-artistic or child related profession.)

I think using it as a middle name (or Lillian as someone else suggested) would be a more practical compromise.

Not necessarily -- I know 2 attorneys with unusual names (1) Precious (male) & (2) Treasure (female)
