Do you keep your doors locked when in the house?

One of my friends was here this morning and was shocked that I don't keep the front or utility room door locked when I'm inside.:confused3

We live on 3 acres with horses etc. I'm always in and out of the house. In fact I'm waiting on a feed order delivery right now for the horses and chickens.:) So its a pain to lock doors and we have a very large dog outside and nosy, nosy neighbors! I have never worried about this.
My friend was furious and worried that something is going to happen to me if I don't lock my doors.:rolleyes1

Yes. But we live in an apartment complex and even though we're not in a bad part of town at ALL we still have some problems with breakins, and they usually are people that just leave their doors unlocked. We've also had people try to enter our home without even knocking... so thank god we have the door locked all the time!

Honestly, it's just a quick flick of the lock when we get in, so it's not a big deal.

never lock them. Friends of ours lost thier house key or the lock broke and they went on a cruise and never locked it.

Yup. The front door is always locked (people around here are a little too neighborly at times and will try the door first and then knock, lol). If I'm home alone, I'll keep the back sliding door locked. If we're both home, the back will usually be unlocked until we leave or it's time for bed.

No - unless I am going into the shower... but the kids are always coming and going. I do lock it up at night - about a month ago we had some car break-ins so I make sure it is all locked at night.

Not only are they rarely locked but they are often opened. I try to keep the air and heat off as much as possible and have the front door and sliding rear door opened. I never feel unsafe with them unlocked.

I live in a quiet suburb and always have my front door locked. I sometimes keep my back door unlocked when I am home when I am working in the back yard. However, I have a privacy fence with a lock on the gate.

Exactly. We don't live in a sub division or apartment. And we are 400' back from the road. If I'm in the barn its true I can't see the front door but my dog will bark if he sees anyone.
Also our property is enclosed by electric fence. Ouch!

Yes, all of the time. I know I might be a little paranoid, but I just feel safer that way.

I have a friend who went on a week long vacation and they kept the place unlocked! Nothing happened, the house was totally fine but... I can't imagine!

By myself, always locked. When I am with the family, almost always unlocked. My ds or his friends are always coming and going!

Sometimes they are locked, sometimes not. Most of the time the back and side door are unlocked but the front door is locked.

When we are not in the house we do lock the doors.

I always keep the door locked. It's totally a force of habit now. It took a while to get my boyfriend to do it when he moved in (I'm from the Philly area, he's from Vermont...) His parents thought we lived in an "unsafe" area when they saw the locked door. Eh...I'd rather be safe than sorry!

Nope - my kids are in and out all day long playing. I live in a residental area, with a lot of SAHM's. People here are also really nosy, and would notice a stranger walking around.

Always keep the doors locked. Although if my dad is working outside, he usually has the garage door open. But he has a motion sensor alarm that goes off if anyone goes into the garage.

Also, when I'm home alone, I don't answer the door if I can't see or don't know who it is.

But we live in the city and though there's very little crime in my area, it can still happen anywhere at any time. Last year, there were several home invasions and rapes in really nice (previously crime-free) neighborhoods. Proof that it can happen anywhere.

We are the last house at the end of a private road and are completely surrounded by woods. No cars come back here, but I STILL keep the the door locked. I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Always locked. Yes, I know I'm in a big city. But we also live in the suburbs. I'm currently home on medical leave from surgery I had a month ago. One week after surgery, two guys (late teens/early 20's) came to our front door ringing and ringing the bell. It was during the middle of the day and my son (15) and I were at home. I didn't know them and wasn't really up to visitors anyway, so we didn't answer it. Turns out, the guys left our home, went to our next door neighbor's house, kicked in their front door and robbed them. After that happened we installed a security door and have a monitored alarm. No way will I leave our doors unlocked.
