Do you have to take an elevator to these restaurants?

I have a fear of being in elevators. I'm worried about some of the restaurants that we want to try next trip.

My biggest concern is the California Grill. I know its at the top of the Contemporary. We really want to dine here especially for the view which I know I'll love once I'm up there, but I'm scared that the elevator is the only way to get up there. Is there any other way?

Also, we want to try Jiko and Cape May Cafe. Do I have to take an elevator to these? Thanks.:)

I'm afraid the only way up there to CG is elevator access. From what I remember...a CM has to physically take you up the elevator themselves so only CG guests can enjoy the food and view.

As far as Cape May Cafe and Jiko...you do not have to take an elevator. So you can relax on and enjoy these two restaurants.

Thanks. I'm afraid I may have to skip California Grill if I can't get over my fear.

The Contemporary does not have any internal staircases; they are all outside at the edge of the tower corridors. If you came on the monorail you would have to take an escalator to the 4th floor and then climb to the 15th.

We too had to pass on the CG. About 15 yrs ago- I got stuck in an elevator on the 20th floor of a hotel for over 3 hrs. From that point on- I don't care if I'm in the 200th floor. I'm taking the stairs. I don't do elevators. I literally will pass out.

So do you think they will allow me to use the stairs to get to the restaurant? I hear that your supposed to be escorted up by a CM in the elevator.

I think if you could call the hotel itself they could tell you. I don't know the number though, sorry.

That's probably the best idea--.
Cape May and Jiko require no elevator rides.

We never miss the CG when we visit - especially because they will "hold" your dinner and allow you to go out onto the walkway and view the fireworks with the music piped in. :tinker: It's really a must do if you can get beyond your elevator fear. I would strongly suspect though that if they can, barring liability issues, they will get you there via a stairway if you ask. A great alternative to CG - another one that we never miss - is Artist Point at the Wilderness Lodge - no elevators there either!:goodvibes Good luck!
