Do you have to pay to fish at Ft. Wilderness and is it catch/release only either way?

Fishing is strictly catch and release anywhere on Disney property.

Fishing is also free.

If you want to catch the big ones you can always go on a fishing charter. Generally that is how you get the big bass.

Thanks John. It's actually not for us really. We will be (maybe) at Ft. Wilderness for the week of Thanksgiving in a cabin. My in-laws live in Jacksonville and I was thinking of inviting them for Thanksgiving day and the night before. My father-in-law is an avid fisherman (I mean like where he keeps, cleans and eats most of what he catches - blech!). At any rate, I would assume he would enjoy fishing their even being catch and release only but who knows? (I think he would scoff at/could not afford a chartered trip). Maybe I'll ask my husband to talk to his mom to see if it's even worth mentioning it to him. If they came, neither one would go into a park and I'd hate for them to be bored out of their mind (they aren't Disney kind of people). Hmmm...maybe we'll just go visit them Friday and Saturday after Thanksgiving like we had already planned.

if your FIL is an avid fisherman he may not enjoy the fishing charter. it was expensive for some shiners and a pontoon boat.he can do that anywhere for a lot cheaper. My husband took his pole to FW and took the bus to the meadows trading post and fished the pond behind it. He usually catches some decent bass. The water is low right nowwe were there the 1st week of June, so he only caught one bass and a 3 1/2 foot gator. It was fun to see.
