I was just reading a thread where a family was requesting pictures from the day they opened the MK. How did they get to do that? Can anyone just "sign-up" for it? If anyone has any information about this, please let me know. Thanks...

We have been to WDW several times since 2000. On every one of those trips at least one member of our family has been picked to be in a show or for something special. DH was picked to be in the Shamu show at Sea World (I'm still SO jealous of him for this...I wanted to pet Shamu!!!)

Last year we were all picked to be the "Magical Moment Family of the Day" at the Lights, Motors, Action Stunt Show. Every time we have been picked out of the crowd (we were approached by a CM at the fastpass machine for the stunt show). The CM's have always told us that they rarely pick people who ask. They say they try to judge by how happy a family looks and if they really seem to be enjoying themselves. That seems to be a good policy and I like the fact that some things are still random. That makes it all the more special when it happens.

Our kids were chosen at MK to be the official "MAGIC KINGDOM GATE KEEPERS". We were there early for a ps at CRT and were sitting to the left side of the turnstiles. A CM approached us about 10 minutes before and asked if our kids wanted to open MK. They had to pick a special word and everyone had to shout it at the opening of the gates. They each recieved at cert. with their names embossed on it and a candy wand. Remember, the most magical moments are the ones unplanned. It's all luck and timing. Have fun if you do get chosen!! :)

Not MK but in AK a few yrs ago we were early for the entry time, wanted a head start on the day as my DH was arriving at noon with my 3 older kids.

My 3 younger kids were asked if they wanted to "wake up the birds"...they were able to walk thru with the CM's wake up & feed the birds! They asked ALL kinds of questions, we got picks of them holding some birds...parrots if I can remember right...then they got special pins tha had pics of birds on them.

They had a GREAT time!! & it has made for a wonderful memory for them.

I think being early & looking excited is good...but as with all the "special" picks for things it just depends on who the CM's happen to notice. We too have hoped many times to "open MK"...but with 6 kids we figure we might be too big a family for them to pick.

Okay, in all fairness, I did get to be one of the families to open DisneyLand one day in November.
I got to the park an hour and a half early, by accident - it opened at 10 instead of the 9 that I expected. Naturally, I was first in line at one of the gates. Every time a CM approached for any reason (cleaning, stocking, stopping to chat) I mentioned that it was my birthday and I really, really wanted to be the first one in the park.
Just before the gates opened, a CM came up to me and told me to hand my ticket to the CM at the turnstile, then come with him. I, and the other family he'd chosen, got "Honorary Citizen" stickers and got to stand inside the gates and count down to opening :)
