My kids are picky eaters and have gotten worse as they have gotten older. I don't have battles over food because I remember the battles and horrible food I was forced to eat as a child.
We cook basic meals and sometimes do a little extra for DH's and my meal to add a little more flavor to it.
Starting 2 yrs ago, I was fairly glad I wasn't so strict in my kids diets as my #3 child was diagnosised with diabetes(Type 1). I can't say sorry if you don't eat tough. He has to eat which means I feed him what I know he will eat. My kids are health. The diabetics ( I know have 2 kids) are a little skinny but not really underweight.
I wish my kids have a better variety but I'm not willing to make it a battle.

), but DH has already said that he's not going to let our kids become picky eaters like his nephews. He can't stand extended family meals when the boys start going off about not having the right kind of apple sauce, or having the hotdog cut wrong, and he just can't resist making some comment about it to his DSis, which doesn't help the family harmony so much...
Much to his surprise, he does like a lot of stuff after he tastes it.
