Do you have problems feeding your child's friends?

My kids are picky eaters and have gotten worse as they have gotten older. I don't have battles over food because I remember the battles and horrible food I was forced to eat as a child.

We cook basic meals and sometimes do a little extra for DH's and my meal to add a little more flavor to it.

Starting 2 yrs ago, I was fairly glad I wasn't so strict in my kids diets as my #3 child was diagnosised with diabetes(Type 1). I can't say sorry if you don't eat tough. He has to eat which means I feed him what I know he will eat. My kids are health. The diabetics ( I know have 2 kids) are a little skinny but not really underweight.

I wish my kids have a better variety but I'm not willing to make it a battle.

I like to think of my DD as a choosey eater so I'm used to other kid's quirks. It's not something we created it's just the way she is. For her it's not so much that she limits what she eats it's more how it's prepared. For instance when she asks for a turkey sandwich she wants just tomatoes and mustard on the roll and the turkey on the side. Soup for her is just noodles or rice in broth. Cheese has to be shredded.

She eats lots of fruits and veggies but protein can sometimes be a problem. She doesn't like most kiddie food like nugget, mac&cheese or grilled cheese. She does like things like tunafish, salmon and most poultry.

Honestly though I'd rather have a child like this because she won't eat what she doesn't like and I think it'll help keep her slim. I was a chubby child in part because I'd eat anything.

This is one of DH's pet peeves - he loves to cook and is an adventurous eater/chef, but his DS' kids are picky to the max! Not just only eat chicken nuggets, but only eat one brand of chicken nuggets. Not just only eat hot dogs, but only eat two brands of hot dogs, and only if they are cooked "just right". I could go on...

We don't have kids yet (soon, hopefully! ;) ), but DH has already said that he's not going to let our kids become picky eaters like his nephews. He can't stand extended family meals when the boys start going off about not having the right kind of apple sauce, or having the hotdog cut wrong, and he just can't resist making some comment about it to his DSis, which doesn't help the family harmony so much...

This reminds me of last Christmas when an 8 year old would not eat any of his turkey dinner because they didn't have katchup. Somehow when it was time for dessert he could finish a piece of blueberry pie.

I wish you the best of luck with this. My ds just turned 4 and he has been a picky eater from day one. After 3 years of crying at dinner because I make him eat what I serve dh wants me to fix him chicken nuggets every night. That is the only food he will eat. I can count on one hand the # of times he's eaten a meal I've served for dinner other than those 4 things listed below.

Sometimes a kid is just picky, it's not the parents fault. The foods my son will eat for dinner are:

Chicken Nuggets
White Rice
Spaghetti (plain, no sauce)
Cheese Pizza

We went to a resturant last night ordered him white rice, and he wouldn't eat it because there was something (parsley ?) in it.

He will not even take a bite of something that is not on that list to taste it. Honestly I am at my wits end with it all.

At our house, you eat what is being served, or don't eat.

We don't force our son to eat, but he must take 2 bites of each thing on his plate. If he does not like it at that point, he is done with it.

We do this because he is young and has not really developed his tastes for everything yet. He just looks at somthing and decides he does not like it. :rolleyes2 Much to his surprise, he does like a lot of stuff after he tastes it.

When he is a little older and really knows he does not like some stuff, I don't have a problem with giving him a sandwich instead. Heck, sometimes DH will make seafood for dinner, which I don't eat, and he and my son will eat that while I eat a sandwich.
