Do you have Irish heritage?

A little but from way back. My cousin traced our roots back to a mayor of Limerick who was beheaded and his head was displayed on a stick!

We have tons of redheads in our family as well. My Irish grandparents were not but had two redheads - one was my mom whose greatest failure in life was giving birth to none. :rotfl2: Times four.

I totally blame my father. ;)

Both my children have brown hair. I blame my husband. :hyper:

Both of my parents are from Newfoundland. So yes, my great grandparents or great, great grandparents immigrated from Ireland. My red hair certainly makes me look Irish too. ::yes:::shamrock:

Mine too! at least were (deceased now) with a few more Greats! :shamrock:

He should be blamed. :rotfl2: :thumbsup2

I'm not kidding about my mother. Going 0/4 almost killed her. ;) Having her sister go 2/3 didn't really cushion the situation either. :stir:

(My mom did get a redheaded granddaughter and two redheaded great grandsons though.)

Oh and you're very lucky. Redheads go grey so beautifully because they don't! She and her sister have gone strawberry blonde first and then blondish and neither have much grey/white and they are late seventies.

50% mexican and then add in English, Irish, German. I married a German, Irish, Native American (cherokee, shoshone and sioux descendants). Thus, my children are a bit mixed up, but pure American.

Anyway, an Irish friend told me that the redhead claim here is absolutely hysterical to him because in his memory most people back home had dishwater blond/mousy brown hair. (You wouldn't know it in my extended family - there are at least nine or ten redheads.)

That is so funny. Even I just assumed most Irish people had red hair. When I was a child and my hair was flaming red, people would stop me and say, "where did you get the red hair from......you must be Irish." My parents didn't have red hair.

So true. :thumbsup2 I'm in my mid 40's and now my hair just looks like it has blonde highlights. I haven't had to dye it.......yet.

I know. Me too. That's what I thought.

 because he didn't have red hair?? :lmao:

Drat you. :goodvibes Lucky, lucky girl.

My mother's father was Scot and her mother was Irish.
My father's father was French and his mother was Cajun French.......and before my hair turned grey, it was red. (As were my mother's 3 brothers and my son.)

On my mother's side, yes. My great-grandmother came over in the early 1900s, can't recall when the others came over.

Lol maybe. All I know is his son fled Limerick because of it. His name may have been Butler. I know Butler is in my Irish family tree branch, I think Fannin is, too.

My great-grandmother was 100% straight off the boat Irish. The grandparents were Welsh on the other side. But I consider myself Deep South American.
