My husbands Mother was 100% Irish.
Me - none.
Me - none.
We have tons of redheads in our family as well. My Irish grandparents were not but had two redheads - one was my mom whose greatest failure in life was giving birth to none.Times four.
I totally blame my father.![]()

Both of my parents are from Newfoundland. So yes, my great grandparents or great, great grandparents immigrated from Ireland. My red hair certainly makes me look Irish too.![]()

Both my children have brown hair. I blame my husband.![]()
Having her sister go 2/3 didn't really cushion the situation either.
Anyway, an Irish friend told me that the redhead claim here is absolutely hysterical to him because in his memory most people back home had dishwater blond/mousy brown hair. (You wouldn't know it in my extended family - there are at least nine or ten redheads.)
A little but from way back. My cousin traced our roots back to a mayor of Limerick who was beheaded and his head was displayed on a stick!
because he didn't have red hair??
because he didn't have red hair??

Oh and you're very lucky. Redheads go grey so beautifully because they go don't! She and her sister have gone strawberry blonde first and then blondish and neither have much grey/white and they are late seventies.
That is so funny. Even I just assumed most Irish people had red hair. When I was a child and my hair was flaming red, people would stop me and say, "where did you get the red hair from......you must be Irish." My parents didn't have red hair.
because he didn't have red hair??

So true.I'm in my mid 40's and now my hair just looks like it has blonde highlights. I haven't had to dye it.......yet.
Lucky, lucky girl.and before my hair turned grey, it was red.
because he didn't have red hair??

Probably the British, they did things like that.
