We love our Direct TV and all the sports packages.

We have DishNetwork. I strongly dislike it. Our local channels are constantly going out. I am counting down the days until we can return to cable.

Nope. Have never had it, never saw the need to spend the extra money, I think in general people tend to watch too much TV anyway (DH for example!)
:sunny:

We have DirecTV, no extra channels. No cable available here. would much prefer cable. Liked NECN.
Love the TV. DH could do without it! Well, except for Patriots & Sox & Celtics! ;)
We cannot access local channels, not even Boston! the closest we can get is Burlington, VT!
we'd have to get a roof antenna for local reception, but for us, that would be tacky on a 225+ year old house in a lovely historical village.

we do not get reception when weather is rainy.

IMHO, so many of the commercials for new movies, adult cartoons etc are idiotically gross. we do use our lockout feature, but there are things in the ABC/CBS/NBC/Fox networks that are gratuitous or just plain insulting-
I watch, all the History channels, A&E, CNN, BBCTV, QVC,Scifi, HGTV,FoodNetwork, the majors, C-Spans,Public TV, Hallmark, some Spike, MSNBC, Travel Ch.
Was a big fan of CBC, it had a terrific world news line up, but it was replaced with Current, which I find okay, but not even close as a replacement.

No cable or satellite. We still get about 15 channels without them. I can still watch Lost, Desperate Housewives, ER, etc :)

We have had Direct TV for 9 years and I love it.

My sister works with someone that has 3 kids a nice home, been married 23 years and has NEVER had a television! :earseek: Her kids read a lot, sew, play outside, study and don't even seem fazed about it.
Poor things. Someone ought to report her to child welfare :rotfl2:

We just have the basic cable ~ no premium channels. It just went up to $60 a month...So it might be going soon!! I can't jusify $60 a month to watch TV. :guilty:

Nope. We live in the DFW metroplex, so we pick up all the major networks and some other channels fairly well with just rabbit ears. We think about getting cable sometimes, but there are only a few channels we'd ever watch (e.g. HGTV, DIY, Food, Travel, Weather, etc). We keep plenty busy as is, and it's just not worth the expense.

It's a treat for us to go over to my parents and watch DirectTV :goodvibes. Or to stay in a hotel and watch cable (if the hotel even offers any good channels  ). If we had cable or satellite, one of two things would probably happen. We'd either not get our money's worth out of it, or we'd turn into couch potatoes.

We just get network tv, PBS, and a couple of local stations. It's more than enough tv for us. We can check out videos from the library if there's something we really want to watch. If a show is any good, it eventually goes to video these days.

I wouldn't give it up. I get my Internet access that way. Our community has it's own cable bulletin board, and that's how I find out about meetings and such. (Basic cable is free for us--included HO Association dues)

I also like the Weather Channel and Headline News, those are probably the most watched channels in my house, followed by my sons Cartoon network addiction.

While we were engaged we didn't have cable to save money. We moved to a cheaper apartment and decided to get cable again. We will (cross fingers) be moving to our new place in January, and we don't plan to get cable again to save money. We've both agreed that when we have kids we don't want cable either. We'd rather talk and have family time than watch tv. Right now I'm addicted to some shows, but it's easy to break the habit if you can't watch it!

Around here we have no choice, we have to have cable because the regular reception on the television is horrible, you can't watch it at all. I think they do it on purpose - I do have to say that I enjoy cable. I practically watch all cable channels 99% of the time. It's VERY expensive, but unfortunatley it's something we can't cut out of the budget.

Cable with ALL the channels. I couldn't live without my TV and my movie channels. Also, have the DVR. Had TiVO for the longest time, but it couldn't handle HighDef, so I got our cable companies DVR. Can't live without that either. Also, love the On-Demand. The only problem is the one channel we don't get is the Travel Channel, so I miss all of my WDW shows that I hear are playing. :sad1:

Now, I might be a little biased b/c I work for one of the premium movie channels. That also gets me my cable and internet for free. I won't say which one it is, but if you need to know what is coming up next on Rome or when the next season of Sopranos is, just ask. ;)

Not picking on anyone or trying to be mean, so please help me understand okay?

I don't understand those of you who say you HAVE to have it, cable, because that's how you have internet. Is DSL not available everywhere, because that's where my internet connection comes from.

And for those who say they MUST have cable because certain channels they can't live without...why? :duck: Please don't flame me, I don't get it. Hey, I'm not perfect, it took me YEARS to give up the cable, but July of this year was it for me. :goodvibes I was like many of you thinking, no way, I HAVE to have it, but when I lived with someone for 30 days who didn't have it, I really didn't miss it. As I said, I can "keep up with things" by watching cable at work.

Okay, I hope I didn't offend anyone.

Blessings always,

Denise :sunny:

For me we have both DSL and Cable for internet choices. I just prefer cable for my internet...and I guess my Television. But again, these are MY choices. I have had Satellite in the past and had no complaints. If I remember correctly, the picture was actually more clear as well. I haven't compared it since we got the digital cable. Also, for me I like the On-Demand feature that cable offers. But again, these are just MY choices.

Oh, when I was using "HAVE" that was pure sarcasm for me. ;)

I do enjoy my TV watching. Don't get me wrong my DW and I have a great relationship and we talk a lot, but sometimes after a long day I just like to tune out and watch some TV. That is another reason I love the DVR. That way I can record the shows I like and watch them when I want to, not be a slave to the TV schedule. Therefore, DW and I can do whatever we want and when we are done or she decides to go do something else I can then sit down and watch what I want to.
