For the first day of school?

I have 2 girls but only one is of school age (10) and the other is at home (3) but we have little traditions we've been doing since her very first day of Pre-K. It starts with the last full weekend of summer before school starts and it usually coninsides with our State Fair here in Maryland, so we take them on Friday night. Saturday, we either catch a movie or we rent some and stay up past bedtime watching and munching on popcorn. Sunday, I let her decide what's for dinner; this year she and her baby sister picked Pizza nachos:confused3 . Later that night we take baths and lay out everything as to not forget something in the morning rush. When she goes to bed I pack a special "back to school" lunch and slip a greeting card in her lunchbox. Morning of the first day I rise up extra early to make her a special breakfast. I shower and dress by this time I wake her up and the little one who is sooo excited for her big sis you'd think she's going to school with her. This year both me and baby sis will accompany her to class and stay with her until she's settled. It's a new school for her so she's already expressed that she's a little nervous. Then after a while we'll leave and I bring my youngest with me to my job for the last time of the summer. My mum picks my daughter up from school and will keep her until hubby & I get home from work.

We always take a picture on the front porch before we leave in the morning. I made DD a back to school cake last year from Family Fun that looked like a chalkboard. I also had a small gift waiting for her when she got home. She's already said she hopes that will happen again this year, so I guess it's become a tradition.

We have a wall in the basement that marks the height of our boys on the first day of school each year. Boy how they grow.

Ours ties in to a Christmas tradition! Several years ago we got the "Elf on a Shelf" book and the little elf that comes with it. His name is Red and he hangs around for about two or three weeks before Christmas.

On the first day of school- Red leaves a goody basket in the kids rooms for when they come home and a note to say he will see them at Christmas time.

We always do a special note in the lunch box- and the Friday before we do "Back To School Fun Day" where we do fun things and pick out a new outfit for the first day.
