Do you have a Wow! gift?

This was our plan too! We had the most amazing little foster dog in our home and I was going to go up to the shelter last week to fill out the papers, pay for and adopt him...then we'd tell our girls for Christmas. Just as I was getting in my car to go to the shelter, we got a phone call. A family who had met with him once or twice BEFORE we fostered him decided THEY wanted him. It only took them a month!

My husband and I were sad. My girls were cheering "YES!!! He found his FOREVER HOME!!!" they were a little sad, but they were told that he was only with us until he went to his forever home! They would have been a lot more sad if they had known our plan to adopt him! We were an hour too late!

 That's so sad. :sad2: I can't believe that the exact time you were leaving to go to the shelter you got the call. The other people must have had the same gift idea as you. Too bad they couldn't have procrastinated another week. You were so smart to not let your girls know your plans. That's always the hard thing about fostering. It's so easy to get attached to the cuties but it really is a great way to see if a pet fits in before you are committed.

Hope another special dog comes your way soon. It's a wonderful thing you are doing by fostering.

DD16 wow gift is a PS3 and a bunch of games. We have never had video games in our house but she plays at friends and has been begging for one. I told her no, but I did get it! Her other wow gift is finding out we are on the dcl fantasy in feb!! She has no clue! I got her lots of other stuff, but that's the wow stuff!!

I do have a wow gift for my DS (26). I loaned him a significant amount of money to attend nursing school (my late husband and I had already paid for one undergraduate degree at a private school - this was going to be degree #2). He has been working as a pediatric ER nurse for 18 months and has re-paid half of the loan. For Christmas this year, I am wrapping the loan notebook and marking it "Paid in Full". He will be very surprised and I can't wait to see his reaction. :goodvibes

:thumbsup2

looks like there will be TWO "wow" gifts for DD15 this year. not only is the getting the AG doll she wanted (yes, she asked for it, and poured over the catalog for HOURS), but we're buying her a new clarinet. her old one was used when we got it, and this is her 4th year to use it, so it's worn out, lol. she doesn't know we're getting a new clarinet-we're telling her we're getting her a new mouthpiece, and we're taking her to the local music store to try some out; however, my DILs are buying the mouthpiece, and we're buying the clarinet.

Well DD 15's wow gift was different than I first thought but then shes my sentimental child. I really should have predicted it.

A bit of back story. In November DH was diagnosed with late/end stage heart failure with a very grim prognosis. For Christmas this year he decided to end the gift opening with a special gift just from him to each of the children. They werent large gifts just thoughtful. He combed etsy for handmade keepsakes that would fit thier interests and that would always remind them of this year. At the last minute I framed a picture ofeach kid with Dad and included them in with the gift.

DD's special gift was a unicorn pendant she swears she wont ever take off but the picture was the thing she declared the hit of the day.

For my dd8 it was her google tablet. She wanted a nintendo dsi but on black friday I found the tablet for the same price as the dsi and got that instead. This was maybe she'll leave my nook alone. :)

My dd14 didn't get her wow gift until we got to my aunts house. She got her a Kuerig. DD mentioned at thanksgiving that she wanted one and we all joked about how she needed to save her money. I only wish I knew she was getting one so I could have had my camera ready. The look on her face was priceless.

My ds is only 10 months so he doesn't really get wowed. He does love his little laptop that sings and does letters, shapes and numbers. And grandpa got him the bullseye rocking horse and seems to really enjoy that.
