Do you have a whiny cat?

I have 2 girls that are VERY chatty, in fact one of them woke me at around 2 am. She was playing with a stuffed mouse and chatting up a storm while doing it!

Mine is chatty too. I chalk it up to her being part Siamese

Our cat talks also--She will meow at us then start walking away, stop, meow, walk a little bit more, meow again--all to get us to follow her which of course we do. Sometimes she leads us to her water bowl so we'll put fresh water in it---she'll lead us to her box if it has too much poop in it and she'll even lead us to the bed so she can cuddle.

It's going to be a very sad time around here when KC is no longer with us (KC is short for Kitty Cat which is what my DD named her but when DH took her to the vet he told me he couldn't walk in there and say the cats name is Kitty Cat so we shortened it to KC to save him from some imagined embarrassment :rotfl: )

Fergie!!!!!

She is loud and obnoxious. She is the alpha cat and orders both me and Diana (Cat 2) around. She has an irritating meow.

Unfortunately, she now cries in the wee hours of the night and I can't get her to shut up! I live in a one bedroom apartment, so there isn't anywhere I can seclude her. I've taken to wearing ear plugs (but I need better ones).

We should form a support group.

I do & it's getting out of control!:scared1:

When she was a kitten she was so chatty and we all thought it was adorable so we reinforced her behavior. Now she's almost 3 years old & while she is still adorable & chatty, she has developed a bit of an attitude, literally marching up to us & yelling at us when we get home from work or right when we wake up!!

I know what to do about it-start ignoring her when she's being a brat & giving her lots of love when she's quieter & polite, but geesh!!!

Do you have a cat like this???

My orange and white tabby, Jack (aka "The Most Opinionated Cat in the World" and "Catatouille") actually does *whine*.

I thought other people had whining cats! If you pick him up and it's not his idea, he actually whines (never meows). Sometimes he also snorts through his nose to show us his displeasure.

First time I've ever had a whiney cat!!

My male Tabby was a stray we adopted a couple of years ago and he can be soooo loud! I work from home so this can be a real issue. I have heard conference calls go deadly silent after one of his loud MMMEEOOOWWWSSS!!
Fortunately my DH works from home too so he keeps him with him so I can work.

She only does this for 30 minutes at a time? Maybe she's protesting everyone going to bed or at least maybe that's how it started and now it's a habit.

Cats can be so hard to read.

Yes. It only lasts about 30 mins (sometimes less) and she does not make a sound all day (I'm home with her).

I was pretty sure she just doesn't like to be left alone. She used to stay in the family room with DS and I all day and every time I went into another room she would jump up to follow me. She now will go upstairs or do her own thing for a little while, but she's usually around us most of the time. But even when we go to bed, she's not "alone" since she will eventually sleep in someone's bed after she stops meowing.

Nemo isn't much of a talker, except when someone in the house raises their voice. He's trying to be the peacemaker, I think. He also sleeps on our headboard at night and will wake us up with an adorable "Meow?" Or sometimes "Meow-meow?" He's asking permission to jump down and get into the bed with us. So cute.

Elvis, however, is a big talker. He carries on conversations with DW all the time. He is also fond of carrying stuffed animals to us in his mouth while "singing".

We have whole conversations with our cat. She is very talkative. We find it amusing, even after several years. She has quite different voices for just talking and "FEED ME NOW HUMAN SLAVES!!!"

I don't have a cat...but I have a whiny shih tzu :rotfl: Does that count?? He's pretty small and I bet everyone's cat could beat him up :rotfl2:

He used to just whine when he had to go outside....great!! Now he's figured out that it just gets him attention.....but you can't ignore it because it just MIGHT mean that he has to go outside :headache: He's at the groomer today and I'm enjoying the peace and quiet!

Okay not to be an alarmist, but has Fergie been to the vet lately?
That's exactly what our talker started doing, this went on for months,
she'd start yowling in the middle of the night, when we'd call her name her tone would change and she'd come get in bed with us and usually settle down. One morning when we got up she couldn't walk ! Turns out she had an abdominal mass that was pressing on her spine and inoperable. She was 16.
If our non talker had done this we'd have taken her to the vet right away, but with Weezie we though she was just wanting attention.

I was actually just going to post about my crying cat.

Every single night when we go up to bed she wanders around upstairs and just meows and meows. We just got her in October. At first I thought maybe she was hungry so I would get up and make sure she had food and water, but now I fill both right before I go upstairs. I thought maybe she was lonely, but after a while of meowing she will sleep in the bed with DH and I or one of the kids. Sometimes she will play with a toy for a few minutes and forget about the meowing, but she eventually remembers. Some nights it's just a regular continuous meowing, but other nights she is super loud when she goes into the kids' rooms trying to wake them up.

Is there something we should be doing? Occasionally, she'll hop in our bed and quiet down if we call her, but usually she just comes in and meows at us louder and then continues to wander the second floor. I would have thought if she just wanted us to stay up, she would realize after a few nights that we're not going to. :confused3 We're just not that familiar with cats-- I had one cat in my life, but he never made a sound. I'm just not sure if it's normal for a cat to meow every night for a half hour or if we're not meeting her needs.

Cats are actually sort of nocturnal creatures... they like to roam around at night. She is probably just mourning the idea of everyone else being in bed, leaving her lonely. If you play with kitty before bedtime and wear her out, she will get more on your schedule and go to sleep when you do!

LOL as I am reading this our female just started her nightly session.
I thought we were the only ones that have discussions with our cats. The female is much more talkative than the male.

:rotfl:We call our tuxedo cat (our quiet cat) Catatouille sometimes because she loves to watch us cook!

We have 5 cats and only 2 are "talkers". The oldest (Blackie) is about 15 and she does it to get our attention. If you are not paying attention to her, she will come up and nudge you with her head and then meow. She can hit the octaves when she wants. She also likes her butt to be smacked and meows the whole time. :confused3

Our youngest (Miss Priss), my DH calls Screech. I can be in the kitchen doing stuff and my DH comes in and she will screech at him to get her some milk. The others don't talk too much and seem to have next to no voice compared to the others. Occassionally Tinker (our little boy) will start talking, but its mainly to see where we are. He also doesn't need to talk as he can make his intentions plain without meows. If he wants to play, he pulls his toy to the couch and just sits in front of the couch, looking at his toy then looking at us - toy, us, toy, us - until we give in and play so that he can fly.

My barn cats do this. They love to run up to me, crying about something. I usually drop to me knees and look at them real serious-like and yell "What is it boy? Did Timmy fall down the well?"

They're mah kittins.

Weird. We say that to our dog when she gets crazy. What is it with the Lassie thing?

We adopted (she adopted us truly) a cat in Oct and we have to put her in her own room at night because she will do great sleeping til about 3am. We cannot deal with the yelling/screeching at 3am. She always announces that she has entered a room. I suppose by talking to her and giving her attn. we have encouraged that behavior but we have done NOTHING at 3am to encourage her. Nothing.

Pearl, our Calico, is not only a talker but has somewhere picked up begging. Me being confined to the bed has totally goofed her schedule up. Used to be that she would whine at me when I first got up for her wet food. I would tell her wait and she'd beg a mnute (paw up) and than wait for her food. Now she comes to my door and yells at me to tell the other minions to get her wet food for her. The others will ask her if she wants wet food....she ignores them....I say it and I get a "now" and she runs to the refrigerator.:rotfl2:

She also has talk for play and "why aren't you doing what I want"

This summer, someone called DBF's parents and told them that she had found two tiny kittens in the dumpster at KFC :scared1::scared1: Back then, they were adorable and little.
They have since taken up weaving inbetween your legs CONSTANTLY and mrowing at the top of their lungs CONSTANTLY.
DBF and I try to visit after 8:00 pm, when then go into their crate :rotfl:

I love the stories, and here I was thinking my cat was the only one who does this.

My 17 year old kitty has become a bit mouthy to be honest. He never did this when his sister was alive. About 2 years ago when we had to put his sister down due to incredibly unsanitary conditions she was creating, the Vet had us make kitty a bedroom in our main bathroom on the top floor so we could make sure he wasn't doing it too. Don't feel bad the bathroom has a nightlight, pillows, comforter, food & water, heat & AC, and steps going up and into the tub which holds his litter box... his own bedroom really. Well, he started getting fed upstairs to try and encourage him to stay up where his litter box is and eventually he began to meow when he was done eating. Then he began to meow for his release in a voice that sounds strangely like "Heeeeeeeeeelllllp". Well after we were satisfied he wasn't messing we let him out. But his royal highness got used to eating upstairs so now we humans are trained, via LOUD calls to bring him his dinner. The funniest ever is when DH is finishing up before bed and the cat just stands at the closed master bathroom door calling over & over & over until the door opens and he gets fed. Silly kitty :goodvibes
