Make sure you fully understand the costs of it. Your homeowners will go up, if you don't have a fenced yard, you'll need to get one. Water to fill it, chemicals to maintain it, natural gas or electric to heat it. It's not just the cost of the pool and the installation! Between these costs and our climate (Chicago, the pool would only be open about 4 months a year), DH and I have decided we'll never have a pool.

It costs us around $125 to open our above ground pool and about $100 to close it in the fall. Between then we spend probably $60 every two weeks for chemicals. We use Baquacil products and love the way our pool looks. I was in the pool shop just last week and they asked how our water looked as most people coming in are complaining of algae problems. Not us! DH does a great job on the pool upkeep so we usually don't have any issues, not even mustard algae in the summer.
