Do you have a pasta maker?

What brand do you have? DH is a cook and I was thinking about getting the Ronco Pasta Maker from Amazon for his Christams present. The fact that it's also a sausage maker really appeals to me. Anyone have this brand? I've read the reviews on the site but looking for more. Also didn't know if it is too "cheap" at only $80 I like that price but also want quality to last. Anyone have any input? Thanks

This summer my mother gave me one since I had always wanted one. I used it once and hated it. What a pain in the behind to clean up. It was the Ron Popeil one which is now Ronco. I used it once and wanted to throw it in the trash.

I have a Simac Pastamatic 700. I don't even know if they make it anymore. It was a Christmas gift from my pasta loving husband several years ago. Looks like it's selling for around $50 on ebay but shipping is a killer because this thing is pretty heavy.

It mixes the dough and extrudes it. There are 6 or 7 discs that came with it and there are several more that I could have purchased in addition to those.

It makes very good pasta but it takes forever to extrude 1-1/2 lbs. of dough. Clean up is not too bad if you have any mechanical skills. The whole thing disassembles and all the removable parts are dishwasher safe. The motor can be easily wiped off with a damp sponge.

But it doesn't make sausage. Sorry.

I have a pasta maker attachment for my kitchen-aid mixer. I make up the pasta dough and then run it through the pasta cutter. I would recommend this for your husband instead of the kind that extrudes the pasta. I haven't ever read a good review of those.

They apparently have an extruder attachment, but I don't have that and can't say how it works. But I would bet it has the same problems as the other extruders.

They also make a sausage maker attachment for the kitchen-aid, if you are interested in that.
