I'm thinking about getting one. Who has one? What kind? Any problems?

I would like one with a DVD player so that I can avoid buying one of those, too. I will have Windows XP and Microsoft Office Professional.

At the current moment, my laptop is:

Compaq Presario 2170us
2.4gh Pentium 4
256mb memory
30gb hard drive
DVD/CD-RW drive

It's OK, wouldn't have been my first choice but at $699 after rebates, it was too good to pass up.

I have a HP Pavilion ze 4500. I LOVE it. Does everything I want it to do. Has DVD player and CD recorder (I didn't think I needed the DVD recorder).
Best Buy had a great sale when I bought it with lots of rebates. They had 18 mo same as cash too :) I take mine with me to WDW too.
I never use the desktop now. I have the laptop networked into the desktop. Can surf the net, print etc all from where ever I want to be :) Its great.

DD has one. All I know is it's a Toshiba and she loves it.

I hate it. I don't like the "finger mouse" thingie. I need a REAL mouse - just like Mickey.::MickeyMo ;)

I have a Dell Latitude and I love it!!!! I hated the finger mouse thingy at first too but now I can work it faster than my laptop. The only thing I miss is the numbers on the right side!

I hardly every use the desktop anymore!

I have a DELL 5150

I love my dell... specs are

Pent 4 Processor 2.66

40G HD

CDR/DVD

512mg Memory

I have a Sony Vaio that is about 1.5 years old... I still use it quite often actually to do certain things (software I have yet to load onto this desktop) and of course great for travel. Actually I have both my desktop and my laptop running so I can work with two memory hog programs at the same time.

My thing I did was make sure that I had a good processor chip and a decent amount of memory in it so I could run it as a back up desktop when needed. I love it and wouldn't trade it for the world ::yes::

We have 2

Mine is a Toshiba- XP Pro, with Office Pro- and a bunch of other junk..the one thing it doesnt have that I'm not sure WHY is a CDRW drive.....yes- you read that right. I have an external floppy 3.5 drive .....I didnt purchase it, it's a work one...my next work computer- will be a desktop

DH has a Compaq. XP Pro, office Pro and a DVD/CDRW drive....his is much fancier than mine, much thiner, and also lighter!

DH got a laptop for those nights when he really wanted to leave the store, but still had stuff to do on the computer. He can bring it home, and have me do the work!

I got a laptop at work, because I dont really have an office per-say, and I can take it with me between pools/home/office

We both have wireless mouses- and DH also has a full keyboard, and a thin screen thing at the store..the laptop stays under the counter, and just the mouse/screen/keyboard are on the top.

I love dis'n on my couch!
once our wireless router is hooked up, I'll be back there...for now I'm on our desktop with cable!

Dell Latitude C640 with 512 ram, CDR/DVD, 30 gig, XP Pro, Office Pro, wireless. I use it for travel, business INTRAnet while at home and at homewhen desktop is tied up. I do have external wireless keyboard and mouse.

It is a fine laptop but I do not like laptops unless I have to use, as above. I did have one problem, a noisy DVD drive. I called Dell (yes, in India) at 6 PM and had a new one at my house, the nextday, at 4 PM, 22 hours. Return package, prepaid, for the one to return. Put it in the box, dropped in FEDEX box and was done. Dell service is great.

Glad to hear Dell service is good.

I'm wondering about wireless internet. How does that work?

I know I'm getting lazy now. Want to DIS while on the couch!

I have a Dell Inspiron 8200. I like it, but I'm sure the new ones are even better.

I have a small Microsoft mouse since I don't like the pointer thingy. I have wireless internet and am hooked up to the network and can print on the study printer.

We have two desktop computers (for the kids) and my DH has his own laptop (he works at home and can bring it up and work on the main level when he wants to). I think he has an IBM.

T&B

Our desktop crashed in February...we didn't have time or money to waste to figure out what went wrong. We decided to go ahead and get a laptop. We always had problems with our Dell desktop so I didn't want to get a Dell (think it may have been Windows ME actually giving us the problems, but oh well).

We got an HP laptop at Best Buy...just like another poster said, lots of rebates and 2 years same as cash. :) We love it. It works great, does just what we need it to do (hate paying for extras that we never use). We also have wireless internet...WONDERFUL!! Love it! At first I had issues with the mousepad...I was very slow. We bought an external mouse and used that when we sat at the desk but eventually we both got used the mouse pad and I can go fast now. :)

I wish I did. I've wanted one for years but they are very expensive. I could get one for $400 but it wouldn't have anything that would be useful to me. I need one that is good for the new computer games coming out and those ones are expensive.

I have an IBM T-30 that is about 1-1/2 years old. I use it mostly at work where I have a port replicator with a standard keyboard, mouse and monitor.

I have a Panasonic CF - 73. I have had no problems with it and it does have a DVD player and a wireless card installed.

Mine is not as new, it is a Compaq Presario. I enjoy using it. I couldn't get use to the finger mouse pad so I bought a regular mouse to use and it's perfect! I love the flexibility of being able to go room to room. I'm sure pretty soon you'll find deals the closer it gets to the holidays!

I think it's a worth while investment!

I have an HP Pavilion, which is a couple of years old. I don't use the finger mouse thingy; I have a regular (USB) mouse plugged into one of the USB ports. I also have a lapdesk thing I bought at Best Buy which gives a little room for a mouse pad, and which dissipates the heat so that my lap doesn't burn.
