You have all been so helpful with my questions on garages, basements & house colors. So, do you have a fireplace? Gas? Wood? electric? Do you actually use it? Does it take up too much space? I'd love to hear all about it. :)

Yes, I have a fireplace.

No, I don't have a clue how it works! :( It's the first fireplace I've ever had. I see there's a log in the bottom of it. :scratchin LOLOL!

I would say it's gas based on the little flame I saw a few months ago that a friend said should be completely off. Managed to do that one. :scratchin

We have a fire place in our family room. It's a wood-fireplace that takes up about half of one wall (it's centered in the middle). It's tan, red and brown brick that goes all the way to the ceiling. The hearth is raised off the floor about 8 inches and we have a nice wood mantel. DH keeps saying he wants to replace it with a gas one, but I won't let him. We do use it quite a bit, probably 4 or 5 times a month in the winter and we really like it. The kids beg to have fires, they love to roast marshmallows! We usually only have to buy wood every other year, we have a big storage rack in the garage. But, my parents recently bought 50 acres about a half hour from us, so once they start clearing some of the trees out to get ready to build, we'll have free wood for a LONG time! I highly recommend getting one if you think you'll use it alot.

Yes, we do have a fireplace. We do not have gas logs, but I wish we did. DH loves wood burning fireplaces though.

Yes, we have a huge brick fireplace in our living room but we never use it.

me personally, No. However, my MIL has a few in her house

We use the one in the "keeping room" on holidays- and also she uses it in the winter to take the chill out. It's wood fired.

The one in the formal dinning room, we use thanksgiving and christmas..

My BIL/SIL have just put a Electric one in their living/dinning great room. Its self standing...stands in the corner- its more for abience, than for heat. Though there is a blower they can turn on if they chose.

We have a wood fired furnace, so when I want to see fire, I just open the door LOL not very romantic!

All 3 houses that we've lived in have had a wood burning fireplace. Sometimes we use the logs that are sold in the supermarket, they are easy to start, and then we put some wood logs on. I love having a fireplace, it takes the chill out of the room, on rainy days like today!

We have a Vermont Castings wood stove. It's one of the smaller models, Intrepid, but it heats our familyroom and kitchen just fine.

We haven't started it yet this season, but once we do, we usually keep it going 24/7.

It can be dirty, but as long as DH is willing to get the wood (usually 5-6 cords per winter), and clean up around it, it's fine with me. :) It's rather cozy....:)

Yep ours sounds similar to deckers except it is entirely brick. The hearth is brick and brick goes all the way up to the ceiling. On either side are two curio cabinets raised up on the hearth. Its gas and I need to call and have the chimney cleaned before it gets cold for the first time.

I love fireplaces and wouldn't want a home without one! They are so nice and cozy in the winter, especially with the Christmas Tree sitting in the corner by it. Beautiful, and since we don't have snow, its the next best thing.

Don't have one and so wish I did! DH and I have decided our next house just has to have one! We did have one when I was a kid, but my Dad would never let us use it because he said it drained all the heat out of the rest of the house due to the draft! My Dad is definitely not a romantic!

We have a wood-burning fireplace.
Christmas Eve just wouldn't be right without a fire burning in the fireplace. :)

We have a wood-burning fireplace. It's brick now but I'm going to fieldstone it when I get back from vacation.

We love it. Use it a lot in the winter.

yep we have a gas fireplace that turns on with a light switch! I love it and use it often especially when I cuddle up on the couch with a cup of hot cocoa and a good book :) hmmmmmmmmmmm sounds like a plan for tonight! ;)

We have a red brick fireplace in our family room. It has a gas starter with ceramic logs. I have asthma so I can't handle wood burning, plus I'm not crazy about the "campfire" smell and the way it permeates the rest of the house. I'm probably in the minority on that one though!

Yes, woodburning. Used to use it alot but not much now. We are looking into converting it to gas.

Gas fireplace. Ditto on the light switch thing.

No ashes. Heats the family room like you would not believe.

We have a wood burning fireplace and use it all the time in the winter and during Christmas especially. My DH loves chopping wood and keeping the fire going. There's nothing like the crackle and scent of burning logs!

When we contracted to have this house built it would've cost an unbelievable amount of money to tap into the gas line out front, so we went with a wood burning. We can convert later if we desire, the switch is there, but I guess it would have to be propane.

here is a pictures of mine, it doesnt take up much room at all!

::yes:: We just moved into a house that has one, not sure what it is as we can't get the doors open....think it is gas though. We don't plan to use it so I guess it really doesn't matter. It is nice, but it does take up some much needed wall space for us.

A year after my ex-husband left, I converted our woodburning fireplace to a gas/ceramic log fireplace. One of the best things I've ever done!! I never used the fireplace when it was woodburning, I use the gas logs all winter. I have a remote control to turn it on and can set the temperature that it will keep the room. It really heats up an 18 X 21 ft. room with a cathedral ceiling! And very inexpensively, too.

We had a condo with gas one when we went on a ski vacation and that's what tempted my sons and I to convert ours!

Oh, and no clean-up!
