Do you hate returning things?

Oh yes - I despise returning things!

Had to return a pair of pants last week that my mom bought for my daughter - they were waaaay too big...the clerk asked me three times if there was a problem with the pants... I kept saying...Yes, they do not fit her...was really weird really.

Glad they took em back! :teeth:

I hate returning things too! I thought I was the only one! I have friend who won't try things on at the store, so she just buys things she likes in a few sizes, takes them home, tries them on and then returns what didn't fit! She doesn't wear them and then return them, that I know, but still, I could never do that! I have several things around here I should have returned, but didn't. :guilty:

They took the sunglasses back no problem.

I just said "My husband said they look too small on my face...gave me a stigma" she laughed and gladly credited my debit card. (Poor DH - always the scapegoat. heheh)

She was really nice about it...even offered to help locate the "next bigger size" frame-wise as they no longer had any in stock.

Then I went to the Gap and bought 2 pairs of jeans for $9.97. Seriously..one was on sale for 9.99 the other for 19.99...I had a $20 off "rewards" coupon. So - score - 2 pairs of jeans for under $10?

so sad...they really were pretty sunglasses...I guess I'm just used to the 'bigger' style glasses now

Great news - I don't know why I always worry about returning things when it is usually so easy.

I have no problem returning things that have tags on them and that I haven't used. I've never returned something I've used though. I didn't really think we could do that. We bought a pair of pants for DH from Old Navy and the clasp came off after wearing them only a few times. Should we try to return them? We don't have our receipt.

Yeah - i get myself all worked up over it for some reason.

I could NEVER be a person that just grabs stuff and brings it home to try on. I try on everything at the store...then I get it home and try it on again before I cut the tags off. Rarely does stuff go back.

I guess I return so infrequently that I just hate doing it.

I REALLY have to dislike something to return it. hehehe

couldn't hurt to try - you might just get store credit or an even exchange with no reciept/tag though.

The inside scoop -

I used to work customer service at a grocery store. People would return stuff all the time. WEIRD stuff. Half eaten chickens, magazines, 6 month old meat... The only thing you should worry about is the store policy. At that store, it was... if you have a receipt, you can return ANYTHING in the store, NO MATTER WHAT. Because the store then just sends it back the manufacturer, and the store gets the credit for the refund its not a big deal.

But if the person didnt have a receipt, their item had to be under 10 dollars for it to be refunded. If it was over 10, you had to call a manager. 9 1/2 times out of 10, the manager okayed the return. Why? Because people got ANGRY if we wouldnt take the item back. Then they called corporate, and told corporate Stephenie at customer service wouldnt give the return, and Bob the manager wouldnt give her the return, and the chicken she bought was so horrible her dog wouldnt eat it, and she'll never shop at that grocery store again and blah blah blah.

Corporate then calls the store and says hey, someone complained about Bob the manager. Bob gets a strike and if he gets three strikes, hes out of a promotion for that year. So managers, wanting to get promoted, wanting to get more money, will usually validate your return.

As for me, i have no trouble bringing back returns, or telling a manager I had bad service, or telling anyone anything.

Also, lose the story about why you're returning them. The clerk doesnt care, and its a waste of time, because its about the policy not your sad story. Plus 8 out of 10 people are lieing.

Just my observations..

I thought I was the only one! I *hate* returning things. I worked in retail for many years; you'd think I'd be used to returns. Personally, I hate returning things!

yeah but coming up with the story is half the fun! hehehe

Heck...I bought a gallon of milk...so, what, around $3? (I dunno - how much is milk these days? I never look at the price). Dang thing leaked in my car...then leaked in my fridge.

did I return it? no...tossed it, went out, and bought a new one. no big deal.

but i'm with ya...i'm amazed at what some people return to grocery stores!

i hate returning stuff too. as a matter of fact sometimes when i didn't still have the receipt but the items were still tagged, i would give them to goodwill rather than try to return them.

i have to admit...sometimes when shopping at kohls or something like that, i just buy some things and try them on at home--i started doing this when i was a nanny and alwasy had the kids with me--try it on and home and then returned what didnt fit..

I hate returning expensive things. like Coach sunglasses or purses. I just changed my mind usually but I always feel like I need a story.
how funny. :p

I don't feel bad about returning things.

Unless an item is defective, I don't think returning something used/worn is appropriate. As a consumer, I don't want to pay retail prices for an item that is out of the box and used, even if only slightly.

Once I wear it, it's mine and my problem to figure out how to use it or lose it.

I don't usually mind returning things. I used to work as a personal assistant, my boss had me return $250 worth of books to Borders, I felt REALLY uncomfortable.

The only place I don't get questioned returning stuff is Wal-Mart :)
