Do you get nighttime "Charlie Horse" leg cramps?

I get them all the time. It hurts like hell, too.

I get them a lot(they had stopped for a while also), I find they always come when I am breaking in a new heel hight or have done a lot of walking/standing.
What works for me is
1) Drink Tonic Water (contain quainnine (sp) and helps with the dehydration)
2) I stamp my feet/try to flex my toes too (some times this does not work for me)
3) Pinch really hard between upper lip and bottom of nose (great if you get the leg cramps while you are out in public.
;)

I was told it was from lack of calcium -- I got them a lot with dd#2 -- for awhile it seemed almost every night. The doc told me that it was lack of calcium at the time. My fingernails were also affected by that pregnancy - they used to be strong, and now chip & split...

Now I get charlie horses when I sleep w/my legs out of the covers - like the cool air causes them to cramp.

Anyone get them in their thigh? Never had them before I was pregnant the first time and now (4 yrs later) I only get them sporadically. But only in the left thigh. Starts in the inside knee and curves around to the top of the thigh. Hurts so bad it usually makes me cry and then it hurts for about 3 days afterwards. Hate them!

That's interesting because last night I slept terribly - it was too hot under the covers and too cold without them so I kept sticking my legs out trying to get comfortable. I just assumed it was from all the tossing and turning.

Gonna load up on bananas and drink more H20 and hopefully I won't get another one for a long time. Gatorade huh? That's worth a try as well. Thanks for all the suggestions.

:rotfl2: {--- That's me but instead of laughing I was writhing in pain! :)

My mother swears to this one:

Put a bar of soap under the fitted sheet in the calf area (any type but dove).

Don't laugh it really seems to work!

Not laughing...That's straight from Bob Logue and the "Undercover Club'n KDKA radio. and YES it does work...Who knows why :confused3

I think it's a lack of chocolate -- ;)

Water and bananas are the two cures I've heard also. Must be something to them since so many people are recommending them. I wonder if the heat lately is leading to a lack of pottasium and/or dehydration? I had a doozy the other night, too. Ate two bananas and drank lots of water the next day. So far..so good.

I've gotten them three times and all 3 times it was after nights of heavy drinking...and then they hurt for about 5 days afterwards. Just absolute torture, waking up in the middle of the night screaming. :sad1:

I got one in my inner thigh while I was at WDW last December. It felt like somebody had taken a jagged ice pick and was raking it down my inner thigh. I don't know when I've had anything hurt so bad.

It really worried me at first because I have a friend with fibromyalgia and she is in that kind of pain daily. I have chronic fatigue syndrome which is very related to fibromyalgia, and I fear that I may develop fibro at some time.

I used to get cramps a lot - got one in my side one day when I was at the dentist trying to get a new cap.

What has worked for me is two tums (for calcium) and one Flintstone (or other chewable) vitamin twice a day.

I get them all the time & I hate it!!! I had to buy a back messager to keep by the bed so I can message them out.
