What is it about Disney's spectacular display of pyrotechnics during Wishes and Illuminations that gets to us? Is it the music combined with the location and the moment that brings us to tears?

Do you get choked up like I do?

I get choked up but for me its because all those years of watching The Wonderful World Of Disney every Sunday night growing up, seeing it all in person and watching Tink fly down its like I'm a kid again. Its very overwhelming, exciting and beautiful. I also get choked up on our last day

Wishes gives me goosebumps. It's definitely the fireworks combined with the music.

Fantasmic and Wishes get me choked up, always have a tear in my ear when they end. :thumbsup2

Wishes and Illuminations are two of the biggest highlights of our trip. I cry everytime I see either one of them. I guess it's a combination of alot of things. Where we are, all the memories of being a kid, watching those fireworks with my kids as little ones, that are grown with their own families, and then watching them with our Grandchildren. And then, I don't know if this sounds silly, but the romance of just DH and I being there watching them together.

I get teary but only during WDW fireworks. Fireworks at home don't get me like they do during Wishes!

I really got choked up when we saw Wishes from our resort room every night.
To say it bluntly, my dh and I went thru quite alot with my dd, with her medical needs since her birth. DD got a wish granted to go to WDW via Make-A- Wish a couple of years back. The vacation was the best ever! Our wish granter from MAW asked if we wanted to stay at GKTW. We said no, we would rather stay at an on-site resort with the monorail access if possible. We did request the CR, which we had no idea we were going to get to stay there! I had requested a month before the trip if we can stay at the towers of the CR, overlooking the MK so we can see Wishes every night from our room. At first, dd's wish granter wasn't sure if MAW could do that. When we checked in to the CR, the CM upgraded our room to the 11th floor, MK view! We were floored!! :cool1: This was the first time our kids had ever been to WDW, so we wanted to make it very special for them. I literally cried every night from our resort window watching Wishes. We did have the tv on to the certain channel that had the Wishes music on it, that went with the fireworks. I think the combination of all hte years I went thru with dd and her medical stuff, being there for our MAW trip, and hte music w/ the Wishes fireworks made it very, very special! :cloud9: I'm crying now as I think about the Wishes music :cloud9:

What a great story!
My son had ALL when he was 4, and Starlight Foundation sent us to Disneyland in California, Universal and the Living Desert near Palm Springs! It was a wonderful break from such a hard time. There's nothing like there faces all lit up and happy when they've been so sick...
I'm sorry, now I'm getting all choked up too!
(and, yes, the fireworks at Epcot and Wishes at MK do get me all misty and choked up!)

You're making me cry! :grouphug:

What a beautiful story. I love MAW- :thumbsup2 -a child in our church was granted a "wish" and it was so wonderful to see the joy that gave her. I, too, get choked up @Wishes. Osborne Lights make me cry, too. I guess I'm just a little mushy when it comes to those things.

Wishes gets me everytime. We end our trip with watching wishes, it's a perfect ending for a magical trip. I can't even listen to wishes on my CD without getting choked up

Yep, Illuminations will do it every time. Just pop the cd in and I start to well up.
The worst was Tapestry of Nations. I still turn into a puddle when we watch video of that parade. Wow, I love Disney!

Wishes always gets me. I get goosebumps everytime. I haven't seen Illuminations yet so I don't know about that one. Spectro gets me too!!

Hmmm . . . my user name is Wishes - do you think I might love the Wishes fireworks display? Just thinking about standing there on Main Street with my wonderful husband and my arms wrapped around my two great kids watching that beautiful fireworks display behind the castle . . . well, I'm almost tearing up right now! My 19 year old DS loves the Illuminations show so seeing him enjoying being at WDW at his age with us is also very special!

Illuminations is what made me a disney freak. I choked up pretty good the first 2 or 3 times I saw it. Very powerful. It's just so well choreographed to the emotional music. Sometimes it still gets to me a little, even though I've seen it dozens of times now. It will usually get me choked a little if I haven't seen it in a while, then watch it after the wait is finally over.

Wishes will hit me occassionally, but not like Illuminations. I'm just not quite that into the disney movies that it really uses as its storyline, so it simply doesn't get me like Illuminations does. But it's still powerful.

WIshes always makes me not just teary eyed..but full crying..still...
ok no easy way to say this....
when my dd was 4 we had planned a trip to wdw after her brother was born...well he was born in August and died 48 hours later...my family convinced me to take that trip 6 months later....I sobbed literally at the music to wishes...because no one could make my wishcome true...I still cry....but now it's because I have 2 beautiful healthy children that I adore...

Wow LUVMICKEY....you must be my TWIN. You said EXACTLY what I always feel and say. We leave in 5-1/2 days with the 2 oldest grandsons. I love to watch a first timer (especially a grandchild) see Wishes, Illuminations and Fantasmic. It brings the magic (and tears) back for me. Then in December DH and I are going for that romantic holiday trip...just the 2 of us. (more tears)! I'm blessed to have such wonderful opportunities. Aren't we all! :cloud9:

wishes gets me all the time. I get to watch my mom see it for the first time this week We keave tomorow.

Sometimes. Things that I really get choked up over are seeing the castle, the first time I see Mickey and when I see a CM do something special for a kid, elderly person or a special needs individual.

Wishes gets me - but it is the song, not the fireworks.
