Do you get a Tan in the summer

My mom gets tanned even with sunscreen and without trying. One outdoor tennis match and she looks like a "buttery biscuit" as we'd say in the south. She does not "tan" though.
The question wasn't do you tan, it was do you get a tan. Words are important. I have dark hair, dark eyes and olive skin. Yes, I get a tan, even wearing sunscreen.

Use Sunscreen every day.
I don't go out to tan myself but being Italian, having olive skin, living in a Tropical place and often outside... I'm "tan" year round and I like it.

Not sure why you would choose to nitpick that? Threads topics often expand. It's not like that post made the thread take a nosedive. In the grand scheme of things what difference does it make?

eta: And if you read lowkey's original post it does seem to imply that he does indeed "get a tan" purposefully.
I do, but not like I did when I was young, we all know the dangers of the sun, but still like to keep some color going on

Yes I get a tan. The past 5 years we have gone to my sisters in Ft.Myers so I start there. We go to the beach just about daily. I have found spf 30 works for me and my kids, DH too! The first year I bought 70 and we came home whiter. I now get 30 and as long as we reapply often no one gets burned ans everyone gets a little tan. I am half Italian on my mothers side and my fathers is Hungarian and Canadian French and not sure what else. So while I get color, I still burn and I get to a certain point and stop getting any darker. My kids take a little longer to tan because my DH is German and Irish...

I don't get s tan as in go lie down somewhere bathing but we spend a large amount of time outdoors in both summer and winter so I do get a good colour going on.
We are religious with sunblock here or in the islands, otherwise we will burn in under 15minutes during summer months.
When we are in the US or Canada we sunblock the kids but not ourselves really just nose, top of ears and never get burnt.

Yes I do get a tan & yes I tan purposely. As matter of fact just got back from a week in the Caribbean, looking like toast.

Ashley? Is that you? Lol, this made me smile as a dear friend just got back from a cruise and described herself as the same. When we travel together, we have 2 sun worshippers and 2 not sun worshippers. We tell the sun worshippers were leaving them plenty of rays and they can have our share

Yes, I usually do. Mostly just arms and legs these days, but with a couple lake vacations planned this year, I'll probably end up with a full tan this year.

I tan when I am going on a tropical vacation. If I don't get a base tan, I will fry so I get color before I go so I don't have to worry too much about a bad sunburn while on vacation. We are heading out on the 11 night cruise on the Fantasy in a few weeks so I have been working on a tan for the past month or so. Last year we sailed to Alaska so no tanning necessary for me!

Nope not Ashley but if she was on the Allure with RCL - then I am sure she had a great time!!

I don't deliberately set out to get a tan, but I also don't use sunblock every day. So, I'm always browner in the summer, than I am in the winter.

And even when I do use sunblock, such as when I was in Universal Orlando this past week, I end up brown anyway. All sunblock seems to do is protect me from burning, though that is certainly nice!

I have fair-olive skin, which tans easily but doesn't get especially dark, no matter what I do.

Your reply reminds me of the one and only time I did a Caribbean cruise (March of 05) I was so worried of my winter skin being in the southern sun that I put so much sunscreen on I looked liked whole milk when we returned.....NO tan at all!!!! :sunny:

We always do about 3 weeks tanning before we leave & use spf 50. Burned really badly 1 cruise ruined our whole vacation. So now we don't leave white as sheets, well me anyway. He tans looking at a light bulb, nice part Lebanese skin>:(

Already naturally tan, but yes, I do get a tan in the summer. I don't lay out in the sun to purposely get one, and I do wear sunscreen. Yet I still manage to tan just being outdoors doing random activities.

I'm slightly tanned already. I get nicely bronzed and brown in the summer. Even with sunscreen but I don't wear it all of the time. I don't burn.

I go to the shore almost every weekend in the summer. I love to have my feet in the sand, listening to the waves and soaking in the sun. It's not necessarily to get tanned but it's a perk.

As a child I once had sunscreen get in my eyes and it burned something fierce. To this day I cannot even smell sunscreen without my eyes burning. I tried several formulas with the same outcome and gave up around age 10. Been burned several times and even have some scars on nose and forehead. Don't suggest wearing long sleeves. It's too hot in South Texas! After 20 ish years my shoulders arms and back now tan.

I don't. I'm so incredibly pale that I'm almost translucent! I tried tanning as a teenager and without fail, I burned, peeled, and somehow managed to wind up paler than when I started. I use SPF 50 on a daily basis now.
