Do you ever use something and then return it?

ICK!! No way.

I have bought things that after I get them home realize that they were definitly "gently" used.

I bought a carpet cleaner at Kohls earlier this year. When I opened the box there was still dirty water in the tank

Of course I returned it. They were happy to give me my money back and apologize. But now I wonder if they thought I used it and returned it??

I took a pair of Gold earrings back to Macy's since the post broke on the second wearing. It turned out they could use my CC to look up the info since they still had the earrings in stock. They were very nice since they could tell I bought the earrings on Thursday and this was Monday. (I bought the earrings in Boston, went home on Sunday and went back out of town on Monday which is why I did not have the receipt!) They might be able to help you with the sandles.

I took cheese back to the grocery store!! I bought it the day I was using it to make homeade macncheese....Well I start measuring it out (2 bags) and there is GREEN moldy cheese in it!! NASTY!! So I took it back...this was during August and it wasn't supposed to expire until Dec.-but both of these bags were green. I had the receipt though...and they had put in a new shipment since I bought those, since the new ones expired in Jan....Ew. That ruined my macncheese for me...I could hardly eat it, too worried about green stuff.

My wife used to work for Sports Authority. They also had a policy to accept virtually anything for return. One time a customer tried to return a Nike gym bag. The manager stood his ground and said he absolutely couldn't return the bag. At the time, Sports Authority did not sell ANY Nike products. The manager told the customer to search the store and if he found a single Nike product for sale he could return his bag and get the Nike item for free. Of course, he didn't find any.

2nd story - The store was next to a Ross store (clothing store). A couple of times people came in with Ross bags and tried to return merchandise purchased at Ross. My wife finally said to one woman, "Look around. Does this look like the store where you bought that dress?" It had only been a few days earlier. Amazing how oblivious some people can be.

Final story - My FIL used to sell orthopedic shoes. These are shoes that are custom made for the patient according to a doctor's prescription. He had one customer who came back with a worn out pair of shoes about 8 months after buying them. He wanted to return them because his foot was better and he didn't need them anymore. And no, my FIL did not take them back.

I don't do this, but someone once gave me a gift that they had used. It was one of those Diaper Genies for my first baby. I went to take it back, since I never could really understand the need for one of those things, and much to my chagrin, the salesclerk discovered a used diaper in the thing. I could have died right then and there. I ended up just leaving the thing there and ran out of the store, LOL! OMG. My sister ended up mentioning it to the woman who gave it to me, who said she herself never used it and was re-gifting. I dunno. The whole thing was bizarre. I say if you can't afford to buy someone a new gift, then skip the shower; or if you buy something at the store and want to take it back after its been worn, you seriously need to look inside yourself and find out what your problem is.

The one return item that comes to mind when talking about this king of thing was when I worked at a grocery store out in Colorado. The day after Thanksgiving a lady brought in a completely eaten turkey carcus and wanted her money back because she claimed it didn't taste good. We had a 100% guarantee so she had Thanksgiving dinner on us (the store)!!:p

Something I also find funny. People shop our store for the great deals. So you may find a shirt or something cheap and want to give it as a gift. Then the person you give it to comes in to return it. The price is so low, they look at you like I just got it as a gift,I'm sure they paid more. We say without the receipt thats all we can give you. They leave very insulted. I would never buy someone something so cheap. You never know if the person may take it back. If it wasen't a gift I wouldn't care if they new the price. This scenerio happens alot.

Snowglobe girl :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: That is too funny!

Okay--I do not know how to get her quote here, but on page one of this thread she posted that she saw a guy put on deodarant in the store and then put the deodarant back on the shelf!

I will admit that I have opened deodarant and sniffed the fragrance . I have also gone to the perfume counter on days I have forgotten to put some on and helped myself to a blast or two from the tester.

I've spent many years behind returns counters...it takes a special kinda person...
The most recent story I can think of would be the little old couple who wanted to return their "defective" toaster oven. They had a receipt and the box looked pretty nice. However, when I opened the box, there was an old grimy burned toaster oven inside. It didn't even resemble the picture on the box. This little old lady looked so sweet, but as soon as I opened her box it was all about how she was in a hurry and didn't have time for me to check the merchandise. She and her hubby left with their oven!

Back "in the day" I used to be a manager at a home improvement store. I recall in vivid detail the day someone tried to return a used toilet seat to one of my more outspoken team members...let's just say it still had #2 on it...ewwww. The team member working that day really let the customer know what she thought, and who could blame her?

is really cheap. She kept all the boxes and receipts for her baby items. When her son was too big for his baby bathtub it went back into the box and she took it back to the store. I couldn't believe it. If she had gotten more than one I can see returning the UNUSED/extra one back but not after you've used it for a couple of months.

Give me a break.

A friends daughter worked at a walk up Ice Cream stand and someone actually tried to get their money back for a cone because it was melting too quickly! It was 95 degrees that day, what do you expect from soft serve ice cream. They told her they would refund her money but she would have to dump the cone in the trash. She refused because that would be "wasteful". She did not get a refund!
