By wrapping their present in a different box? DS is getting a Nintendo DS for Christmas (His Nintendo SP came up "missing" a few weeks ago). I am putting the DS in the SP box, which I saved. He will think he is getting a replacement SP for Christmas. Wait till DS opens it and realizes it's the DS!!! :goodvibes (I just realized I used 2 different DSs in one sentence!) :rotfl:

(I just realized I used 2 different DSs in one sentence!)

and yet I knew exactly what you meant!

nice move!

my brother gave my dad a box of macaroni and cheese once.

my dad smiled, said thanks, and then put it aside.

10 minutes later my brother, with tears in his eyes from keeping his laughter in, said "dad - you do REALLY think i'd give you a box of mac and cheese for christmas? OPEN IT"

there was $150 in restaurant gift cards inside it.

my brother hot-glued the box back together.

so nothign it what it seems on Christmas morning in our house.

All The Time! I've become very creative over the years!

My Dh and neighbor pulled one on me last year.
My DH and I had gone to an open house with a bunch of vendors selling differant products. I had made a wish list of CM products(scrapbooking) that I wanted.
While at open house I was admiring this 9x13 pampered chef baking dish but talked myself out of it due to it would never get used in our house. Imagine my surprise when at my parents house my Dh walks in with this tastefully simple box, inside of a pampered chef bag. The entire time I'm saying he better not be geting any bright ideas. Imagine my surprise when I opened wrapped box to find everything on my CM wishlist and not a single baking item LOL.
My neighbor knew that if I saw a CM anything I know I was getting something good, so she unknowenly threw me off trail by using stuff she had in her house.

my "evil" big brother decided he was going to thwart my gift guessing once and for all one christmas. he bought a gift certificate and then cut a piece of lead in the exact dimension of it. he taped the edges of the certificate to the lead bar and then wrapped it and put it under the tree. i could'nt even lift it (it was like 20#). i went nuts trying to figure out what it was!

LOL I do that all the time to my older boys (the little ones are still to little to guess what they are getting). I hate it when someone knows or figures out what they are getting so I tend be creative in the wrapping.

I did that one year. When we got married, we couldn't afford to get him a ring. Well, I got him one for Christmas that year. He knew he was getting a ring. So I took the ring out of the box and put in a Hershey's Mini chocolate. So Christmas Eve, we get to open one gift each. He grabbed the box, thinking it was a ring. He opened it and had a look of shock. He got the chocolate and threw it across the room because I was laughing so hard. About an hour later, I saw him looking for his chocolate where he threw it. We still laugh about it.

I put things inside boxes all the time so when they shake them they sound different. This year, one of my DH's boxes has a box of jelly beans in it. So when he asked me if it was the real gift or if I threw rocks in there, I could honestly say it was part of his gift!! haha

My DS is getting a large Yankee Candle box. Inside there is a tiny gift card holder box with a homemade gift card telling him to look in the storage shed for a large box. There he will find the new trombone he wanted.

:earboy2: :earboy2:

I'm having kind of a same situation but mine isn't good and not to trick and hoping it doesn't turn out bad. My daughter was asking Santa for an American Girl. She has one of the Generation Girls and barely plays with her and I had already bought them the monorail with hotels they really wanted so she's not getting one. But I did get them Angelina Ballerina dolls. The playset came in an American Girl box... didn't even think about it when I wrapped it. I'm just hoping she doesn't get her hopes up when she sees the American Girl box and doesn't find an actual American Girl in it.

I got my cousin hockey tickets this year, but I amde a card that says he's getting cooking lessons! When you turn the card over it says "gotcha" and the tickets will be attached!

I gave my secret santa a huge box filled with; packing peanuts, firewood, tacks, and food. after about an hour of digging he found the 25$ target gift card.

I'm being VERY clever with my 13-year old sister Tammi this year. She's getting an iPod Shuffle for Christmas, but she's not going to be able to realize she's getting it until Christmas!!! She also is getting quite a few things from an online store called Horsefeathers (she's a BIG horse nut). One of the the things she wanted was a horse sweatshirt. So, the iPod is wrapped inside the sweatshirt so it won't shake or make any noise. Everything else from Horsefeathers is on top of the iPod and its charger. To make it even harder for her, the box that the gifts are wrapped in have nothing to do with what she's getting!!!! :rotfl: It's all inside a regular FedEx box!!!! I'm just laughing like crazy thinking about how shocked she's going to be when she finds out what's in that big box!!!! :teeth: :rotfl: :rotfl2: :p

Oh yeah, we love to do this!

My nephew (a teenaged boy) wants only high dollar items, so we (along with most of his other relatives) give him cash or gift card and he's able to buy what he wants at after-Christmas sales. He loves this, so we keep doing it. However, we must disguise the cash :teeth:

One year we put it in a CD jewel case. He was so sure it was a CD he wanted. One year we put it in a box of contact lenses. Another year, my DH BUILT a box out of scrap wood and NAILED it together. He had to go down to the garage to get tools to open it!

This year we wrapped it in side a partial roll of toilet paper! LOL!!

Always!!! I wrap the individual gift up to 3 times, then pop it in a box and fill the box with tissue paper or even material (depending on the size of the box)....then I make sure nothing shakes and the box is nice and full and wrap the box..........it fools them every time.:rotfl:

My favorite wrapping container is an empty popcorn can. You know the ones...come with three kinds of popcorn. I save them, clean them out, and put presents inside. With a nail and a couple pecans. :rotfl2: clank clank

It's become a sort of tradition in our house to trick the other about what they are getting. I told DH that I picked up a computer monitor for my best friends husband and that we are keeping it at our house so he can't guess what it is. I even played dumb when wrapping it and he ended up doing it for me. Little does he know that he wrapped his own gift. My friend is coming over tomorrow to "pick-up" her husbands gift. We are even gonna have my DH put it in the car. Then I am gonna hide it in the garage. (insert evil grin here!)

We always do that. It really makes Christmas fun.

I have sent DH on a "Follow the clues" hunt for his gifts a couple of times over the years. I am doing it again this year. One of the things he asked for was a pretty expensive pair of shoes and the box shape is very obvious. So instead of trying to find another box to wrap them in, I am hiding them under the guest bed and sending him on a wild goose chase starting with the first clue wrapped up under the tree. It's fun making up the clues too. They have to rhyme and I try to be very creative with them.

Lots of fun.

A couple years ago a got my brother a CD he wanted. I went into his room and got an old t-shirt out of his drawer. I folded the t-shirt as if that is what I got him and put the CD inside all folded up in it. Then I wrapped it. My brother opened it and was like "Oh, thanks". I couldn't keep my laughter in. As he started to set it aside I said "hold it up, see what it looks like" He held it up and the CD fell out. His eyes lit up. It was hysterical.

This year my cousins did a grab bag of gift certificates. I wrapped my gift certificate in like a million layers of tissue paper and I wrapped the tissue paper all different ways. It took my cousin, no lie, 10 minutes to get open the gift card after he opened the box.

I had been wanting a TV for my room for a few years and when I was in high school I saw a huge box under the tree for me and i was sure it was my tv. Well I opened the big box and there was another box and another and another until I got to an envelope with a card that said gotcha. I was so upset thinking i had been completely fooled until i felt something on the back of the card...4 tickets to the NSync Concert I had tried so hard to get tickets for. I was ecstatic
