a buyer on e-bay is going to try to sc____ you before they ever even pay? The buyer is already complaining about the item and the shipping amount and the item just ended. :sad2: I felt like writing back well if you're not happy I'll just cancel the sale and sell it to someone who will actually be happy to buy it. That way they won't get the item and keep it and then complain that it's not any good. The only good thing is I have a return policy so if they're not happy I'm going to insist they return them.

I would cancel the sale. This person is going to complain about the item and shipping costs now? That means they will probably leave you negative feedback and then get PayPal to reverse the payment and you'll be out your item, the money, and you'll have a bad feedback on your reputation.

Just cancel the sale and relist and hope you get a better buyer.

Dear Buyer:

In light of your recent communication with me, I get the impression you're already not satisfied with the product you agreed to purchase on my ebay auction (even though my auction just ended and you haven't even received the item) and you are also unhappy with my (fair and standard) shipping charges.

Because of this, I have decided to cancel the sale and relist my item in the hopes of finding a buyer who will be satisfied with my item.

I wish you the best and hope you will find what you're looking for.

Sincerely,

First of all, for the PP, a buyer cannot get a refund AND keep the item. Ebay does not require you to refund the buyer unless the item is returned. Period. The buyer keeping the item and getting a refund is not going to happen.

And as a seller you cannot just CANCEL A SALE. The buyer has to agree to the cancellation or you are still obligated to send them the item once they pay for it.
When you create a case to cancel the sale an email is sent to the buyer asking the buyer to agree to it. If they don't you have to send them the item.

I have had this situation happen to me once in all of the years I have been bidding on items on EBay. I bid on ONE PAIR of shorts for my son. Small children's shorts. After the auction ended I realized the seller had put a shipping charge of $15.00. I don't know how I didn't see that before I bid. I asked the seller if they could ship the item for actual shipping charges since I know sending one small pair of shorts costs around $2.50. PPl are trying to make a profit off their shipping. That is why Ebay is now starting to charge you final value fees on your item PLUS shipping. They finally figured out ppl are listing items for very cheap auction style then charging an extreme amount for shipping to make their profit no matter what the item sales for.

Anyway, the seller would not agree to ship the item for actual shipping cost. I reported the item for unusually high shipping charges (which is a violation of Ebay TOS) and then did not pay for the item.

Like I said it has only happened once but it won't ever happen to me again.
Most ppl buying things off Ebay know how much it costs to ship things and they don't like to pay more for shipping then shipping actually costs.

I've been selling on ebay since 1999

You will absolutely get a "Non Performing Seller" strike if the buyer wants to pursue the cancellation of the sale and they will be able to leave negative feedback against you.

Take good pictures of the item in the shipping box to show packing material - make sure you ship with Delivery Confirmation and be done. DO NOT get into a dialog with the buyer about bid price, shipping costs etc, they are what they are and were posted. Just cover yourself and you'll be fine. I have shipped 1000s of items, and can count on one hand the problem people.

Now for the refunding and keeping the item - that is true, but if you are a new seller - PayPal will hold your money while the argument is going on, and the buyer has the option of leaving negative feedback anyway. On ebay - the buyer is king and is always right.

What are you charging for shipping?

$7.50 for 3 pairs of Gymbo pajamas. Which is a little on the high side, I know, but I'm shipping priority mail and it is flat rate shipping and includes alaska and HI. If it was parcel post I'd probably have charged $6.50.

I'm going to look into canceling the sale. I have over 1,500 sales with 100% feedback. I don't need her crap.

She has now sent me a couple of messages about the shipping charge and brought up other sellers with lesser charges. What I find interesting is that she is comparing them to sellers who are violating the postal service rules - shipping 3 prs of pjs in a flat rate envelope which my post office will not allow me to do.

My understanding was always that if it fit in a flat rate envelope, you were good. Why would you tell them what is in it?

Sometimes buyers can be real PITA's. Sorry you're dealing with one.

I'm not aware of this kind of postal rule. What's that all about?

You can ship anything you want in a flat rate envelope - "if it fits, it ships."

Flat Rate Envelopes and Boxes

Any amount of material (up to 70 pounds) may be mailed in a USPS-produced Priority Mail Flat Rate Envelope or Flat Rate Box. When sealing a Flat Rate Envelope or Flat Rate Box, the container flaps must be able to close within the normal folds. Tape may be applied to the flaps and seams to reinforce the container, provided the design of the container is not enlarged by opening the sides and the container is not reconstructed in any way.

That's crap. If it fits, it ships with the post office. Seriously - I spend so much time there its stupid and I've never heard a rule like that.

I just talked to the postmaster about this myself. I had been told you could never change the shape of a flat rate box or envelope. The boxes have to stay the same but the envelopes can be all out of shape as long as they seal. A pair of shorts I would throw in a first class padded mailer, if it's under 13 ounces, it will be much cheaper.

You can cancel a sale by saying it is no longer available for sale..I don't remember where it is in the Ebay mess maze, but say the item gets damaged while it is listed and you can't sell it because it no longer fits the description..you can cancel. I recently didn't cancel a sale, just sent a full refund, because the item just disappeared. The buyer took quite awhile to pay and I think I thought they never were so may have just sent the item off to the thrift store..anyway, it's gone, so I issued a refund.

There has always been a final value fee. I don't sell anymore they are to high on charging the sellers IMHO. Hopefully you can cancel it and move on.

I would never dispute the shipping amount after the sale!! Some people have a lot of nerve. All over what? A dollar or two? What a hassle for you. I would definitely give her a bad rating as a buyer no matter what happens.

Yup, she was disputing it. After the second attempt to get me to reduce the sale I offered to cancel the sale stating that since she had known the amount of the shipping up front she really has no cause for dispute but if she was that unhappy I'd be happy to sell them to the next highest bidder. She paid this morning. I will note that these are Halloween PJs in a Hard To Find style (I had the only pair listed in this size) .

Exactly - but my P.O. is very strict about this. There cannot be any gaps or bulging of any kind. If there is then they won't ship it in the flat rate envelope. Since it's impossible to even ship a copy of Diary of a Wimpy Kid paperback book without the envelope bulging there's no way I'd be able to ship 3 pairs of kids (not infant) winter PJs without it bulging.
