I was just curious about this. Is there is anyone out there who ALWAYS goes the speed limit? I wish I could say that I do, but I must admit that most of the time I don't. I go 5-10 over the speed limit, except in close, residential areas; there I'll go about 20 over (JUST KIDDING! I try to stick to the speed limits there). My mom I've noticed always goes the speed limit no matter what, so it got me wondering other people's habits.

Feel free to post about your driving speeds, but I am especially interested in finding those people who follow the speed limit religiously!

Are you kidding?? You do that in Atlanta and they'll take your doors off!! :rotfl2:

I'll admit, I always go 5-10 over. Even if I see a cop, I don't bother to slow down. I'm not nearly as bad as my mum, though. She's got quite the lead foot - she goes about 20 over. And she's never been pulled over, never been in an accident, never caused an accident (of which we know)... :sad2:

The *only* time I'm not over the speed limit is in residential areas. I'm a stickler for the speed limit there. ::yes::

Well, I do NOW. My ex was a cop in a small town so I drove pretty speedily there--knowing every cop in town is a help.

But, I am the nerd who always goes the speed limit now. DD just got her driver's license and since I'm trying to encourage her to drive the speed limit--I'm trying to be a good example.

Yes, I am a nerd. :teeth:

I never go over the speed limit, but my car does every time I get in!

I go over the speed limit a little bit only occasionally like the beltways in Washington and Baltimore.

I only do the speed limit if I'm on local streets and that's mainly because I know where the speed traps are. But on the highway, forget about it. As Robinrs said, here in Atlanta if the speed limit says 55, that means you're suppose to do 80.

I did 60 in Niagra Falls once until a friend told it was 60 KPH not MPH. Should have been going 36 MPH. Got lucky, no ticket.

Try to stick to the speed limits too many speed cameras round here not to. Mind you the road I go to work on is 70mph.

I do exceed the speed limit at times but not more than 5 over.

Depends on where I am driving. I never go much more than 5 over in a residential no matter what. If it is busier times and places I know there are a lot of kids playing, I am a lot more aware of my speed and the people around me. Highway driving is another ball game though ;)

That is the truth of it! I hate driving in Atlanta because people are so nuts there. That city is just full of organ donors. I tend to do about 9-10 over the speed limit. My DH is a cop but unfortunately he doesn't work in the city that we live in.

In residential areas I'm usually pretty close to the speed limit. On open back roads, I'm usually 5 over. On the highway, I have hit 20 over but common is 10 over (20 over is generally trying to get past truckers that are being nasty, or in the worst of the rush hour situations when my life depends on it). Mostly because speeding is what's necessary to survive driving on New England highways, and you aren't likely to get a ticket until you're 20 or so over, because so many others are going so fast. There was actually an article one weekend where in one speed trap, in 4 hours time they handed out over 100 tickets, only to people going 80 mph or faster (limit is 65) because they didn't have time to get the other ones
In town, I don't worry. My dad was drinking buddies with the police chief in college, and is now the selectman in town. With my last name, the slight amount of speeding I do should not be an issue

Other - I will go whatever the other cars are on a busy road. When I am on an empty road I go a few MPHs over max. (highways)

ETA: On city streets I go the speed limit.

I stay the speed limit or under on local streets and often go over it to keep with the flow of traffic on highways.

Total speed demon here. If there is nobody in front of me, I'll be speeding. It isn't even a matter of being late. Just gotta get to where I'm going.
