Do you do volunteer work.......

I am a volunteer with the Special Olympics. Our county's Special Olympic Equestrian Team is headquartered at my farm, and I am the head coach. We have approx. 25 riders and another 10-15 Assistant coaches. I ADORE my athletes (even the one who punched me yesterday because I made him dismount after I caught him hitting his horse). My guys/gals are all awesome! I've also been an assistant coach on the US Special Olympic Team.

Are you coming to Idaho for the world games?

Yes, this is my fourth year keeping up with the band's marching and concert uniforms. It's my daughter's senior year so it's also my last year doing so. I guess I'll have to find something else to do come August.

BRrrrrrrrrrrrrr!! I don't "do" winter sports hahaha! Besides, me on skis (or skates) is NOT a pretty sight. Right now I have my eyes on Athens, Greece for the 2011 World summer games. Shanghai was a blast in '07 and what a life altering experience!

What sport will you be coaching in Idaho? I'm definitiely going to be checking out all the updates online!

I am a member of Disney's VoluntEars. Basically, they have events almost daily that you can be a aprt of and help. I get an email regarding one of many things I'm interested in and they ask for help and I gather my family and friends and we go help.

We've worked on Skid Row, we sponsored a family at Christmas, and I take part in the CHOC walk each year at Disneyland.

The funny thing is that I can do more and so I shall this year. I find it is better when I convince a group of people to partake rather than me just going alone.

I volunteer at a free clinic, deliver meals to the elderly, and help out at the kids' schools.

I am a La Leche League Leader, so I help mothers who want to breastfeed their babies. In fact, I am leading a meeting tonight (although it is snowing pretty heavily here so I don't know if many women will come out). I also take phone calls from mothers with questions or concerns, and visit them in their homes or in hospital if needed.

I used to supervise access visits for parents of children who were in foster care where there were concerns about abuse or neglect.

We volunteer whenever possible. It is mainly based around our children.

I am a Cub Scout Den Leader (which takes up a good bit of my free time).

DW is PTO Treasurer.

We also do the usual church and work volunteer stuff.

I used to work with a Veteran's support program but just ran out of free time to continue.

Yay! I used to do a lot of volunteering with DS's high school band-chaperoning marching contests, working the half-time crew, etc.
Now, I'm volunteering at the Ronald McDonald House, home for families of children in the hospital for extended stays. This is my way of giving back-they didn't have this available when we had a son in the hospital for a month. Driving 2 1/2 hours a day got tiresome.

Not any more.

I have volunteered since I was a child and about 18 months ago realized that (1) I had put up with being treated poorly because I wanted to contribute and (2) I had seen so much waste of time, money and resources that I felt like I was wasting all three.

And let me tell you that I work for a statewide charitable organization and if you could see the utter waste of money that goes on here... and we are considered good stewards of our money! A subcommittee just spent $6K on a Christmas party and no one was willing to tell them no because they are a racial minority and TPTB were afraid of being called a racist.

I'm done. I have an organization that I know does important work with the deserving poor and I donate money to them and that's all I'm writing.

I volunteer with the fire department. After 7 years of volunteering, 6 years of being an EMT, I started fire school Monday night (another 100 hours or so of training for the certification).

Hundreds and hundreds of hours a year, day and night.

My husband and I lead the church youth fellowship group, and are volunteer counselors and deans at a summer camp.

We had seriously considered it. One of my athletes from the US equestrian team made it onto the Alpine team for winter games, so I really wanted to get out there to cheer her on. It just isn't in the cards...but I would have LOVED to come and hang with you!

I have done various volunteering throughout the years. Domestic violence shelters, GAL, homeless shelters, food banks, single mother homes, children's homes, Ronald McDonald, church, etc.

My youngest keeps me from being as active as I'd like, but I'm still involved with the older kids' school, sports, and scouts and I'm working on building support for a community garden to help support our overtaxed food pantry. I miss volunteering at the animal shelter, but it is a long way from home and doesn't lend itself to working around a nursing baby's needs. And I'm still in regular contact with the teen mothers support group I started when I first moved here, though a couple of the original members essentially took over the group a couple years ago when I was having some personal/medical problems and they are doing a great job.

My wife does most of the volunteer work - den mom, room mom, coach, neighborhood watch, book club coordinator, bunko coordinator, etc. I am on the board of a local photo club, teach photography workshops, and do lots of volunteer photo shoots.
