I am working on plans for a trip for next year. I am blessed with a sister who owns DVC and is gifting points for a big family trip (Her family, my family and my mom and step dad.
My family almost never eats out. Which means when we do eat out too frequently we have tummy issues. I am planning to cook most evening meals and all breakfasts. Does anyone else cook while at Disney? What do you make usually?
I have planned:
Taco salads (because its quick and easy)
Crock pot meatball subs with a side salad
Crock pot chili (made with canned beans and leftover taco meat for quick and easy)
Spaghetti with leftover meatballs

I will be cooking enough for the entire gang (3 teen boys, 2 teen girls, 3 men, and 3 women!)

When are you going?

Just wondering because of the chili.....I cant imagine eating that down there, unless it I was there in the middle of winter.

When we go, we always stay off site b/c of the extra room and cheaper costs...and usually eat breakfast and 1 other meal (most days) in the townhouse.

Typically though we dont travel with a crockpot so we havent done meals like you are going to do -- we have purchased one of those frozen lasagna's before and warmed it up before we went back to the park in the evening it turned out pretty well with a store bought salad and some bread.

We've also done french toast since we always get bread / eggs when we get our food for the week.

We are going end of Oct but are from the south and Chili hits our Menu plans as soon as a football is kicked off for the season LOL
And we drive so crock pot goes with us :)

I don't cook at Disney but I do cook when we rent a condo at the beach. The first thing that catches my eye is that you have 4 meals that all use ground meat. Maybe you can mix it up a bit and add some chicken, pork and perhaps even fish to that menu. There's no way that I would stomach ground beef every day.

Maybe sweet and sour pork in the crockpot? Or pulled pork sandwiches? Chicken taco salad (instead of the ground beef taco meat). Or chicken thighs in the crockpot. Heck, I'd even buy cold cuts and cheese to do sandwiches and soup for dinner one night!

We usually eat breakfast in room either cereal, oatmeal or eggs. Sometimes lunch but we usually hang out st pools since we rarely go to parks anymore and eat at the pool. And out of A week i might cook 2 or 3 times but eat out most nights. That is part of the fun for us. If I do make dinner it's something easy like spaghetti or chicken. Nothing with too many ingredients.

That is so true. No do not cook on vacation. But we do a lot take out for sure.

We own DVC and almost always cook breakfast, even if it's just toasting a bagel. The coffee makers are the Mr Coffee basket-type so we bring extra filters and coffee with us. We also buy disposable coffee cups so we can bring our coffee on the go ( bus or car) with us in the morning.

We will usually cook 1-2 evening meals at the resort. Did you know they have free charcoal grills near the quiet pools? We will usually grill out once and cook veggies in the microwave. We usually do steak, but Maybe you can do chicken or hot dogs. You need to buy the charcoal though.

More later!

Ohh didnt think about cooking out burgers or hotdogs!

No way!! It's a vacation for 'all' of us, and that means me too!! Dh would have it no other way. We have a motorhome and have always stayed at FW, but we have never cooked meals there. We always have snacks, but seldom eat them. We love eating around Disney.

I cook most of the time at home and love it though. Never on vacation, except when we vacay in the mountains - love it then.

Disney vacations are one of the rare times I'm not on kitchen-duty, and I take full advantage of it! The closest I come to cooking at WDW is bringing bagels and english muffins with us, and toasting them at the food court to go with our mickey waffles and bacon platter :)

If I had a full kitchen, and felt inclined to prepare a meal, though - I'd probably stick to the basics that work when we go camping. Grilled cheese, macncheese, sandwiches, wraps, soups, etc.

Nope. I get a vacation, too.

THANK YOU!!!

Unless you have severe dietary restrictions (and I know because lots of my family members have them) and really need to control what you eat, I say give yourself a break too and let somebody else do the cooking. I have one week to relax, and I am not going to waste precious vacation time doing something I do Every.Single.Day. the rest of the 51 weeks in the year.

we always cook easy dinners 4 out of 7 nights--it's so much cheaper with 6 persons! And, we prefer relaxing in DVC or by the pool grilling vs. restaurant. What we like--a few crockpot meals, such as spaghetti and meatballs--with higher protein noodles to stretch it out, taco bar. Grilled steaks and/or chicken. We grill extra chicken and eat it in wraps or on salads later in the week. All DVC grills are charcoal. We never do hamburgers, as we get those in the parks. We also get pizza sometimes or rotisserie chicken from Publix. I go the Publix either by SeaWorld or down 192 not too far from AKV.

I buy a cut-up chicken, put it in a 9X13 baking pan, cut up some peppers and onions and put them in the pan, too, and cover it all with spaghetti sauce. Bake at about 350-375 until the chicken is done. Serve with spaghetti, salad, bread. Another favorite pan-baked chicken is to put the chicken in a 9X13 baking pan, pour some italian dressing over it (we prefer Ken's Light Italian) and bake at 350-375 until the chicken is done. Serve with rice and salad. You could do either of these with pieces rather than a cut up chicken- it's just what we like. The nice thing about these recipes are they are quick and easy to prepare; you could even prep it in the morning, stick it in the fridge, and bake when you get home in the evening.

We don't cook too much more than english muffins or grilled cheese and will heat up leftovers we take back to the room.

I never cook on vacation with husband. No if it just me and kids that would be different story. except for when we go to our camp in the mountains then I cook almost every meal.

Look up some crock pot meals. fav is a chicken, black beans, salsa,

since your driving have your thought of pre-making the meals and freezing them?
just defrost and heat in micro wave.

don't forget to get liners for the crock pot, paper plates etc, that way there is less clean up.

Dont worry lots of people cook on vacation.

Will toast a bagel, make coffee, make a can of cinnamon rolls but that is it. My vacation too. I cook at home about 28 days a month, make sure everyone has a healthy breakfast and lunch, work full time with OT, do volunteer work, clean my own house and maintain my yard. HECK no I don't cook on vacation and yes I have some dietary issues but that is the great thing about Disney they are great about dietary issues.

We are from south Florida and chili is one of our favorite meals even in the summer.... It's just good lol.

We don't usually in Disney but always do on other vacations. This time we will have a kitchen so we plan to. We do cold cuts for lunch a day or two. We bring breakfast foods and simple stuff like rice and ground beef. Whatever we are used to that's not only easy to cook but also easy to clean. Bring plenty of paper plates

We cook. But cooking isn't a hardship for me. Especially if it is just throwing stuff in the crockpot. My husband does be dishes. I can't stand eating out all the time. Usually the food is sub par, and expensive. We eat lunches in the parks because of convenience and then plan easy dinners if we aren't staying late.

A pork loin with some sauce and onions makes an easy meal. Esp of you hit the grocery for the slaw and fresh veggies.

I also will toss chicken breasts in the oven when cooking something else. Then make either chicken salad or a chicken pasta dish.

You could also make a breakfast casserole for dinner:) or do pancakes.

You have plenty if adults to spread the work so it shouldn't be a hassle.

Lol and we eat soup year round here. Frankly if I am cooking and eating it is in an air conditioned room. Not an issue.

We don't cook at Disney but one really easy crockpot meal is a bag of frozen chicken breast and a bottle of barbecue sauce. Shred the chicken and pour off any extra liquid. Put a little more sauce on and you have chicken for barbecue sandwiches. Serve it with extra sharp cheddar. Everyone in my family will eat this and it makes a lot.
