I don't think I censor anything necessarily, but I don't go out LOOKING to expose them to EVERYTHING. I am a child who was definitely censored, couldn't listen to any "secular" music, not allowed to watch any tv show where 1) there was violence or 2) sex or 3)things like Lavergne and Shirley, cause those guys apparently had a key to their apartment, or 3's company cause a guy lived with 2 women, etc. Now obviously I have since seen many of the things I was not allowed to be exposed to in childhood (by the way, also couldn't see "The Elephant Man" when it was assigned in school, Dad said just cause such things existed, didn't mean I needed to SEE them). However, I wasn't really DAMAGED or anything by it, either. Having said that, dh listens to classic rock or country, I listen to everything from classical to pop. For a while the girls' primary exposure to "pop" music was radio disney, but they have since gone off the air in our area. Meagan likes Selena, Demi, the soundtracks for HSM and Camp Rock, etc. Catie is a huge Taylor Swift fan, but likes many artists, especially fond of country artists. I don't tell them they can't listen to anyone, specifically, but obviously what they hear is mostly what we listen to.
Also, regarding books, I don't limit books either, but I do choose to read before them many of their books now, so that I can discuss any questions or things that confuse or trouble them.
