Do you buy your child's school Principal a gift?

Nope, but if I did it would be a book on Autism/Aspergers, so he could learn a little and maybe train the school staff.

I have never heard of people giving the principal gifts here, but maybe we should. He might be less grouchy if got some presents.

My husband is an elementary school principal and he honestly feels uncomfortable receiving "generous" gifts, as they just are not necessary and can be inappropriate. Cards, homemade goodies, nominal giftcards for a cup of joe, etc. are just right, if you feel compelled to buy for the principal. But as a wife of a principal, can I vent at how many gifts HE has to give?? How many bags of cookies I have to make?? There is always one more aide, assistant, or helper that he feels he should give something to. Honestly, he appreciates everyone at his school that I really don't mind.

I usually don't but it seems everyone is doing that this year. I was just curious on how many people buy a gift for the Principal. My DD is in Elementary School.

No Way!!!!!

But I will say when I worked in the school(different district) a few years ago some families did bring a small gift for the Principal. Usually a baked goods kind of thing.

I didn't get the Principal anything, but I did get the two secretaries something. They got the 4 piece Godiva truffle box. Something small, but they do so much for me when I volunteer for DD's teacher (getting poster board, extra dry erase markers, complaining about the copier, etc.) Otherwise, I wouldn't get them anything. The school secretaries are great!

The ones with a Hershey Kiss and M&M on top? Actually, this is what both DS's gave their teachers this year (middle and high school) It is just a small token that they are remembered and not a budget buster. The elementary school principal is out from a surprise surgery this year, but that is what she usually gets from DD.

No but I do make the ones you're talking about except with a Hug and a peanut m&M.

I buy the big tub of Holiday shaped pretzels at Sam's and then melt White chocolate bark (that I buy at Gordon's) to put on them. Then the kids add sprinkles.

My DD5 is school of choice so I have to go into the office everyday to sign her out when I pick her up. That's why I gave a small bag of treats to the Principal and Secretary. It gets hard deciding where to draw the line....specials teachers i.e. music, art, gym, language, etc.
I also have a bag to the "recess" lady as she is also with my daugher everyday and she has to stand outside in the cold with the kids.:worship:

Nope. I might get flamed for this one, but I didn't buy anything for my kids' teachers this year either. One of the teachers the girls had last year suggested that they would generally rather have items for the classroom than to receive personal gifts for themselves. Since the kids are off from school next week, I plan on taking them to the store and let them help pick out stuff for their classrooms. The teachers post lists of specific things they need on their school web page, and things like craft supplies are always welcome.

I don't think everyone should fell compelled to buy teacher gifts, but what really drives me nuts is when my son's private daycare (at $20,000 a year for full time, so we can both work) asks us not to give the teachers personal gifts, but instead buy classroom items. I refuse to do that. These great teachers are so giving of themselves to my son, and his little friends, that I would rather spend my money on something that they can enjoy personally. With the tuition we all pay, and the volunteer sancks that we send in, as well as other supplies they periodically ask for for special projects, don't ask me to ignore the great teachers and pay for more supplies for the classroom. Just my opinion!:)

I was trying to cut back this year so instead of buying anyone a gift at my kids school I made 2 bigs pans of homemade cinnamon rolls and took them in for everyone to enjoy. I put them in the office and any teacher or staff that wanted one could help themselves.

I'd agree with this more if it was the school that asked us to get gifts for the classroom. But - I've been told by my girls teachers themselves that this is what they'd prefer, so that's what I do.

My kids and I usually make all of our teacher gifts. Hand stamped scented candles, the kids attended a private Catholic school so the Principal and VP got gifts. Our public school is split up into K-3 and 4-6 and this year they are at public school and I made 4 mini loaves of cranberry bread and sent it in with my DS for his P&VP&office staff to enjoy. For my DD's P&VP they got a small gift bag filled with chocolate filled liqures(24 bottles each). Both of their teachers got gifts from Bath and body works.
