Do you buy new albums to replace old albums?

Not sure how else to ask this. Looking at others people scrap spaces, I see many have albums that match or at least appear to be all from the same company even if different colors.

I'm not sure if they are just scrapbooks or if they include plain old photo albums. There are many, so I'm assuming photo albums too.

I have all mismatched photo albums because they date back to the 1960s. Pictures of all different sizes over the years result in all kinds of albums & sizes.

Have you gone out and purchased new albums to match for old albums? Have you just moved the photo album pages over if 3-ring binder style or have you bought all new inserts and just moved the photos? I did get rid of all the 1970-1980's type magnetic photo style albums that ruin photos at least, so I'm not asking about those.

If they aren't yellowing or damaging the photos and you don't mind the different albums, I wouldn't worry about it. But guessing by the age, they probably aren't made that great, we know so much more about preserving photos now.

Personally, I have moved all mine to safer albums that happen to all be the same style. I do like that look, too. I even have a giant amount of my grandparents' photo albums and my plan is to transfer the photos to nicer, photo safe albums. Actually, what I'd really like to do is scan them and make digital albums, but for sure, take them out of the older ones.

I don't have any old albums. The one I had from high school (late 1970's) I re-did because the photos were really yellowing. I started scrapping with CM and I love their albums & pages, so 95% of my albums are CM. MY girls prefer 3-ring binder style albums so we have some of those too.

I wouldn't worry about re-doing old albums unless the photos are not stable (yellowing, cracking, etc). The important thing is that the memories are in photo safe albums, not that the albums all coordinate ;)

When I started scrapping my kids were 11 and 5 (now 17 and 11) and the fist thing I did was to get our vacation photos in an album, then Christmas (because I got a freebie:rolleyes1) then I went back and pulled all their baby photos our of sticky albums and scrapped them properly, followed by wedding and honeymoon. I need to get to grips with my pre-wedding and pre-kid photos - I did a "courtship" book for DH so we have a few "safe" but there's stuff from school I need to scrap properly. And I really want to get my hands on my mmum's photos and sort out some to scrap of when I was a kid, and those of her and my father and aunt when young, but sghe's quite happy with them in old albums and even boxes:scared1: I even gave her a picfolio so she could just slip in photos with little labels, but its probably under a sofa somewhere:rolleyes1
