Do you bother people on their cell phones?

I bartend at a restaurant for a living, and people CONSTANTLY come in on the phone and then get upset that we don't automatically help them. I am instructed, out of respect for our guests, to wait until their phone calls are done and they think I am the one being rude! Unfortunately, people just don't seem to realize that it is rude to be on the phone and interact with other people that are trying to do their jobs! Especially if you're talking to your buddy about how "trashed" you got last night!

People on their cell phones in grocery store aisle don't really bother me unless they're in my way. Then I have to use all my self-control resisting the urge to (loudly) ask the cell phone user if she knows where I can find prune juice, Fleet enema solution and mineral oil.

DH won't go grocery shopping with me anymore. :confused3

Well I don't think it's a CA thing at all. I have NEVER had that happen to me in a store, if it did I would laugh too, probably say something along the lines of "If you want quiet go home and chat". LOL Wow, the nerve of some people.....OP I'm glad you laughed at that person. :)

While I have never encountered what the OP has, I have encountered LOUD people on cell phones. For the life of me, I don't understand why people tend to talk louder on phones & think that everyone else in the area wants to know their business!!!

If I am in line at the bank, store or somewhere else & my phone rings I will either push "ignore" or I'll answer & quickly say, "I'm at the bank (or wherever) can I call you back?"

If I'm in a store & get a call I will usually step aside to a remote place in the store & finish my conversation.

I find that people (including myself) really don't pay attention to their surroundings when they're on their cell phones. JMO! ;)

I tend to be a pretty loud talker... I usually say "I have a carrying voice". ;) You can betcha if someone were as STUPID to tell me to shut up because they're on their cell I would use that voice to it's fullest extent. Laughing even, I laugh REALLY loud... :rolleyes1

Tell ME that *I* have to be quiet because THEY have a phone call they take out in PUBLIC? HAH!

:flower3:

I haven't had that experience in the grocery store, but the endless conversations people have about which brand of cereal to buy do amuse me. It's a box of cereal, do we really need committee input? Just pick a box.

I work at a very busy reference desk sometimes. What irritates me is when students come up to the desk to ask a question and take a phone call in the middle of the answer, when there are other people waiting for help.

Haven't had someone ask me to be quiet---I think I would just carry on in my normal tone of voice. I have on several occasions, though, run across people standing in the middle of the aisle totally oblivious to those who want to get around them or who need to get something from the shelf near where they are standing. For whatever reason, people on their cellphones just don't seem to be as aware of their surroundings as two people having a conversation are. Plus, if it's two people actually having a conversation, you can hear the natural lulls in the conversation so you can say "excuse me." Not so easy to do when you are only hearing one side of the conversation.

I once had some woman tell me it was rude to flush while she was on the phone. That gave the rest of us a good laugh. I think the shocked look on my face helped as well.
