Do you believe some things are MEANT to happen?

Oh my goodness!!! I would have run around like a fool--sounds like you handled it MUCH better than I would have!

A few more thoughts on "fate".

If I truly believed that our lives were pre-destined, I wouldn't bother being a doctor. After all, why try to heal or alleviate disease if the outcome is "already decided"???

We ALL take all kinds of precautions to protect our children. If their fate, either from disease or an accident, is already decided, then are our actions actually meaningless????? I don't think so.
Should a child avoid innoculations because his/her life is "already written"???? I don't think so. Should we all smoke and drink without a concern for our health????? I don't think so.

I'm glad you were there to save both your fish and your apartment!

And yes, I definitely believe that things happen for a reason. I even think that some of the things that seem bad to us actually have a good, useful purpose that we can't see. I also believe that the reason these things happen is because of God, and that He already knows what decisions we're going to make. So in examples like getting vaccinations or not, God already knows whether I'm going to vaccinate my children, so He probably hasn't decided that my child will ever get polio or anything like that.

OK, so could someone please explain why I was "meant" to fall down the stairs last night?;)

Denise, it doesn't matter whether or not you meant to fall down the stairs.

Okay, Sweetie, I'll tell all of my partners "MY DOCTOR SAID IT'S OK....."

erros...as usual..yer taking something teu an extreme.......have you NOT adminstered to a patient...who...by your OH SO knowable medical education...should have died from their condition...on a "prescribed" timetable..but didn't???? How do you explain that?....
Similarily...have you NOT seen some who...died of "unexpected" reasons??? How do you explain that???
......do you NOT feel that the woman you married was 'made for you' ??...HOW do you explain that??
....your child...has NEVER said or acted in a way that seemed incongruent to your 'scientific' view of reality??...I doubt it...no matter how you respond....TRY to be honest with YOURSELF in asking these questions to yourself...for once...ok? :)

YES YES YES!!! I BELIEVE! Sorry EROS but here is my story.
Dh (then BF) were heading intown from college about 1 1/2 hrs away, ok to party with friends. We did not tell anyone we would be in town. So we were going to friends house.
DH makes a wrong turn down a street for whatever reason. We start to turn around and we see this dog running around. Dh thinks it looks like his moms dog. No way of course, right? His house is 10 miles away! DH starts calling anyway and lo' and behold the dog runs and jumps in the car! It was his dog, Boris.
If that is not fate I don't know what is. All because dh turned down the wrong street, which is something he never does.

That was the day I believed things are fated. To this day dh & I cannot believe it, but it was real.

YES, YES, YES.......on all three counts!!!!!! No disagreement between the two of us. However, while YOU would probably see Divine intervention at work, I would offer that our scientific understanding is just too primitive to explain such realities.

I have seen, with my own eyes, TWO cases of spontaneous remission of Cancer in 20 years of practice. Truly unbelievable, extraordinary, almost eerie events. However, I have seen hundreds die with such afflictions, often with suffering in spite of our best efforts. The two survivors were no more pious or deserving than those who perished. I see "luck" at work rather than "the hand of God".

As for marriage, I can certainly understand YOUR perception that your wife was "made for you". I love my wife a great deal, but their were OTHER women in my life whom I could have happily married. I have friends who have divorced and remarried; they too have LOVED more than one woman in their lives :D:D.....

Peace to you, GOOFUS :D :D :D

Based upon a situation that I was in this morning that didn't look like it was going to turn out so good, but through someone that I would have never expected to be there at the same place and time as I was that helped alot and turn the situation around, my vote is YES!

SEAT BELTS
:jester: :jester: :jester:

Just a thought on this one. When I was young and invincible, I never wore my seatbelt...ever! One night I was out with my then BF driving. The whole night I had this bad feeling and kept nagging him to be careful driving. Finally I put my seatbelt on and said "Im putting this on, I dont want to die tonight". Wouldnt you know it, a few minutes later we were in a really bad accident. He had the airbag, but Police said if I didnt have my seatbelt on I would have been through the windshield and possibly dead. That night wasnt my time I guess.
