Do you believe in ghosts?

One of my best memories of my grandfather, was a dream that I had.

He died a few days before the end of my 8th grade year. It was unexpected, and sudden at 72. I already knew that I would be in the colorguard the following year as a freshman. Sometime during the year, I had a very vivid dream of him coming to one of my competitions and watching me. We spent the entire day together, buying me lunch, talking, and everything else. It just made me feel like he was really there for me, and still wanted to be around for me. And even though it was a dream, I still remember it 11yrs later.

As far as real ghosts, me and my friend used to pretend there was one living in the basement of my great aunt's house in Indiana when we were there one summer. I think that was just an act of our imagination, but it was funny to pretend there was one living there.

What's the difference between a poltergeist and a ghost??

What's the difference between a poltergeist and a ghost??

A poltergeist is a "noisy spirit" (when you look at the German for the word). It is a specific type of haunting where the key indicators are the movement of objects and the making of noise. There are many different hypotheses as to what causes this particular type of haunting.

Hauntings fall into 2 general categories:

Residual: Sort of like a tape playing over and over. The ghost is simply replaying a moment in time. They will not interact with people around them.

Intelligent: Will interact with people. This could be anything from a normal "ghost" who is aware of the surroundings, to a demonic entity, to a poltergeist. Moving objects and being touched are examples of things that happen during an intelligent haunting.

On a note: I don't 100% believe in demonic forces because I don't believe in the religious aspects of them. I believe there are forces that are inherently evil and attempt to create chaos. I also believe that there may be spirits that are just so angry and mean that they do horrible things to those around them. This is what I believe most "demonic" hauntings actually are.

Our first house was an old house and definitely had something there. We never were afraid of it. Two stories with no explanation really. One night I went to bed before my husband. I had just laid down and for some reason opened my eyes and there was this dark figure standing beside the bed leaning over and staring at me. It did not respond to me and eventually straightened up and backed into the closet.

The second truly had no explanation and left physical evidence. One Saturday in winter when it was really cold and rainy and yucky outside I decided to change the headlight in our pickup. Husband was at work and I was home alone. The truck was pulled front forward into the one car garage so no one could see what I was doing. I was having trouble getting the light out because you had to remove the front grate on the truck to get to it. When I tried to take out the screws that were plastic they would rip and tear. I got so frustrated I went inside to warm up my hands for a few minutes. When I came back out the grate had been taken loose and the screws were back in place in the frame. I could then get the light out. Now explain that.

another vote for the "when you're dead, you're dead" side.

if ghosts are supposed to be the 'spirt/energy' of the departed, why do they wear clothes? Does my shirt have it's own spirit that will carry on after it ceases to be? If so, perhaps all the clothes that have 'died/decomposed' over the centuries actually end up in some sort of 'ghost resale shop' for the dead to attire themselves accordingly ;)

Yeah, and another thing...why do people think "smells" (favorite perfume worn by deceased etc) would still be around? I can't get my favorite to last an entire evening! People frequently tell how a particular scent was present when they had an "encounter". That makes no sense to me AT ALL.

I have had far too many experiences, starting at a VERY young age, to not believe.

2 years ago, I became a paranormal investigator. I have been on numerous investigations, some with much activity, some with no activity whatsoever. I have spent countless hours pouring over evidence and helped to debunk quite a bit and then there are the times that there is no other explanation for it. I can tell you, some of the things I have witnessed and experienced would make the most skeptical people out there believers:scared1: I've actually had to take a step back at times because of a case that has gotten to be too much.

Back in the past, one of my cats at home just slowly got up and stared at a corner on the wall. It was slowly scrutinizing the area where there was nothing, cautiously walking around it, with its back hair standing.

I always wondered if she saw a ghost.

This question popped into my head tonight when I think of dd and how she talks about having talked to her grandfather and great grandmother and the conversations they've had. They both passed away shortly before dd was born.

I also remember dh and his sister talking at the kitchen table years ago when their brother passed away. They both had a "dream" where there brother came to them and said the exact same thing to both.

Dmil, dsil, and dh have all stated that they have had "visits" and eerie encounters... I have not. Dh is terrified of the movie Poltergeist and to this day refuse to watch it.

So I'm curious, do you believe in ghosts? Do you have a ghost story to share?

Yes! When I was in labor with my oldest, his heart stopped and an emergency situation arrived. I started to get amxious/upset/hysterical and all of a sudden, I heard my Grandma (who died about 10 years prior) say....relax, Kimberly, it will be fine. She also rubbed my leg. Now, she is the only one who ever used my full name and I heard her loud and clear. The amazing thing is, I believed her! I got an immediate sense of calmness and....my son was fine!

One other time, I was having a bad day. I don't recall what it was but I was just really sad. All of a sudden, my home started to smell like chocolate. I went looking for the scent and could make no determination about it. I believe, it was my Pop comforting me....his nickname was Hershey.

I was VERY close to these grandparents. There son, my bio-dad, disowned his kids and I think they went over and above with me because of him.

What I wouldn't give for one more day with them and have them meet their amazing great-grandchildren!!!

I once smelled a strong rose scent at a place where a ghost was said to wear a rose perfume. I never could find the source (no rose bushes or flowers of any kind or women wearing perfume or air fresheners and so on) but I don't see why a ghost would continually smell a certain way either. But assuming that I'm not delusional, it was definitely there.

I agree with you on this. i don't believe in ghosts.

Disneybound, where in WV are you? I went on an investigation in Harpers Ferry, in a hotel that's now (unfortunately) been demolished and is being rebuilt. Had some absolutely INSANE experiences there, and then when listening to the EVPs.. *shudder*. Heard my own name being said 3 seperate times in different parts of the hotel, and other people listened and heard the same thing.

I've had experiences since I was a kid. When I was 4, my favorite playmate was a little boy named Timmy. My parents thought Timmy was just an imaginary friend until one day, I told them that Timmy's head was missing. Turns out, a few years prior to my birth a little boy named Timmy had died from a gunshot wound to his head, his father had shot him and the other kids, then turned the gun on himself. We moved not long after that.

I have a few storys that my mother used to tell me. My Grandfather was a politician, he was Gobernator for a state in Mexico named Querétaro. He gobernated on 1925. (you can google him if you want ,Constantino LLaca was his name). Like the presidents, that have an official house, Querétaro had its own. So all the family moved there. Huge house, lots of servants. Strange things happened there, and a few skeletons where found, usually priests, who were killed when mass was taking place, there were killed from behind, in that time , when there mass was taking place, one of the rules where that , they couldnt turn around. My family found 3 treasures. Since it was on the time that Revolution was taken place, families used to put gold coins on chests and burried them on the ground. One of the treasures where buried again, because my grandfather got sick, and the family prist said that they had to put it back again where it was found, because since my grandfather was sick, that meant that the gold was not for our family. I dont know what happed to the other two Treasures.
Probably they gave it to the poor. Also a Prist used to appear in the house, with no feet, a headless man in a horse also made his rounds. My great grandparent was killed that way.....so yes I am a beliver......:scared1:

YES I believe always have I've seen to much not to....

I remember 1 time I was visiting my grandma on her porch my older DD's was 4 an 5 had to go potty they did not want to go in the house by themselves gma told them get in there an potty there nothing or nobody in that house. Just as they got to the kitchen table where gpa used to sit they both started screaming said gpa grabbed them. He often did grab us as we went past him for a hug.

Gpa comes up behind me while I here at the puter from time to time too pecks me on shoulder keeps on goin (he often did that too) I turn to look just in time to see the shadow of him in his wheelchair fade away.

1 time when my youngest DD was very ill for a very long time dh an I was sittin on our bed talking about DD an our next move with her when 1 of my music boxes started playing (my music boxes are not battery operated but the old wind up boxes) My MiL was there telling us everything was gonna be alright it was her way that time.....

?When my youngest was a newborn an under the ultra violet lights here at home seen motherin law at the top of steps turn an go down hallway to the babys room (she was a nurse an a very loving gma an was checkin on the baby... Both my older DD's seen her go down hallway at the same time I did.

2 of my DD's has said gmom sat with them when they was sick.

That's just a few of the things we've had happen over the yrs....

I'm thinking this Halloween that DH and I should get up a small group of friends and go stay the week-end at the Cassadega Hotel. Cassadega is a tiny town located close to Orlando and is made up of nothing but psychics. They do seances in the main parlor each evening. :scared1:

I've been to the place but it was years ago and the hotel was being remodeled when I was there. My step son and I toured the place and he had a "reading" which turned out to be a joke. Still...it could be fun under the right conditions and with fun friends. Anyone here ever been there?
