Do you baby wear at Disney if you don't at home?

I'm trying to think of a time we'd want to wear Dd instead of just hold her, and I can't think of any moments that baby wearing would be so much more convenient. It's our first time going with our own LO, and she'll turn 7 months on our trip. I read a lot about people that swear by baby carriers. Are we making a rookie mistake thinking we can get by without one?

We are going in October when our youngest will be 8 months. I plan on bringing our ergo. We are renting a stroller so I plan on wearing her at the airport. The ergo is great for when she is fussy. She calms down faster when being worn and I still have my hands free to deal with our three year old.

I remember when we took our youngest when she was 7 mos. We used the stroller mostly, but a lot of places won't allow strollers past a certain point. This means you have to carry your baby while you wait in line, get food, eat, etc... We loved the carrier that was worn on the back, but you could take it off & it could stand on its own. I'd bring one & you don't have to use it, but I think you'll probably want to. When you're not using it, you can put it in the stroller.

If you think you might want to use the carrier, start now to see of she or you enjoys it. My sisters kids lived in one. Mine did not enjoy it at all. One tolerated it, the other screamed if I tried. I can see it being quite helpful to have your hands free, yet have a good grip on your child. Also good if you need to hold her asleep while you eat.

I'm bringing a carrier for my 2 yo . It comes in handy in lines for rides, and I like to wear her at night, if we are staying for wishes, illuminations, Fantasmic, etc.
Also in line for a bus back to the resort at the end of the night.
She will fall asleep either during the shows if she's very tired, or in line for the bus or on the bus. I don't have to wake her to fold up the stroller to get on the bus. I've transferred her right into a crib or bed without her waking up then she slept til morning.

I had my boys at that age in the carrier anywhere the stroller couldn't go; in the queues, on the buses, even the attractions and shows. It's easy to let down a strap once you're seated so they can watch too. Having them in the carrier on Kilimanjaro Safaris was more secure also with all the bouncing around.
If you have a water sling it's great to bring along if you're planning on some pool time.

Maybe this will help you decide:

-presuming, you will be taking baby on rides & to shows: Are you able to hold baby for 20-40 min. in the line ? (I know I'm done around 15 min.) Around 7mth baby may be at the crawling stage, but not standing. As well, baby could be a little wiggly & want to get down out of your arms.

I agree with the other poster to see if baby even likes the carrier before you go. Plus, yourself since there are so many styles & it takes practice.

I personally have 3 carriers & at 7mths, used them all (Ergo-still use now, Baby jorn Sport - I couldn't wear this all day/baby over 13lbs, Infantino wrap with buckle waist -great for newborns & froggie style. Is a pain to put on if ground is dirty or wet. As well, it will depends on your body shape & how comfortable baby is with leg position i.e. ergo carrier-baby's legs go on each hip & can baby spread legs that wide yet ~6mths).

As well, depending the ride, I think you can keep baby in them if they fall asleep.

We will be taking a 20 mth old & I will be taking my Ergo incase fussy at nap time / to avoid having to take baby out of stoller asleep for the bus.

I used a Moby in Paris and it was the best thing ever - because dd could sleep in it! Which meant we could still get on and off the bus, walk around, eat and everything without the stroller.

So, I'm assuming it would be helpful to stand in lines, ride some rides maybe, and get back to the resort on the buses or monorail if you're staying there. Which means you can enjoy everything without having to worry about if the stroller can go places or if you have to take a break because of nap time.

When I took my son at 8 months, I took a stroller and carrier. Put the carrier in the bottom of the stroller or on the handle bars when it wasn't being used. He like the stroller better, but my nephew who was the same age like to be in the carrier.

A little different, since I'm talking about a toddler not a baby. Our kids didn't use the stroller much at all as babies and the sling was wonderful. (They stopped using the sling between 10-18 months). At 2.5 years old, my youngest hadn't used the sling for about a year. We brought the stroller for him - figuring that would work. Nope! He refused the stroller and refused to walk. He was only happy being carried. I was so glad I had thrown a sling in my backpack just in case.

We're going with our twins in November and absolutely plan on taking our carriers to hold babies if they're fussy so that we can still be hands free! We have quite a collection of carriers (our babies LOVE them), but I think we'll take our Tula and our Babyhawk because they're easiest/quickest for us. We figure they'll just live in the stroller at all times so we'll have them if we need them. Also not sure if you're nursing but the carriers allow me to nurse discreetly while on the go- a definite convenience at Disney!

I would bring the carrier and give it a try. The worst that can happen is that you (or your baby) would hate it. I would start using it now so you are all used to it once you get to WDW.

Some kids who have not been worn don't like being worn. I would do some test trips to like the zoo or someplace similar to a theme park in distractions to see how it works.

I don't wear at home, but do it at Disney (DH and I both take turns). It's much easier in the lines, and we even keep the baby in the carrier for most rides too. I'm not in the best shape though, so maybe if I was in better shape I would be able to just carry the baby through the lines...it just really hurts my back and shoulders. With the carrier, the weight is distributed, and I don't feel a thing.

So if you are out of shape like me, then I suggest a carrier! Ergo is my favorite!

We never wore and had no problems at Disney. My kids have been there from 3 months on. Contrary to these boards....most people do not wear babies/toddlers at Disney, although you certainly aren't out of place if you do.

My two DS would never have tolerated being worn, especially since they weren't used to it. They also are very heavy so I couldn't even imagine the stress on my body to wear them in the heat, DS2 is 34 lbs and off the charts for height and my older DS was even bigger at that age. My kids did well in the strollers and enjoyed stretching their legs in lines. We never got in lines with them that was more than a 20 minute wait. If they did want to be held, since there were two of us we could take turns.

WOW - I am impressed. I could never have gotten my 2 year old into a carrier. All three of my kids were way to active to tolerate a carrier at that age.

What brand do you use? It would seem like it would have to be a sturdy one to hold a two year old and to not break your back.

She's 27 lb, 34 inches and I use a Tula in toddler size. It really distributes her weight well. She's very active too, so will probably only go in it in evening when she's tired. Although, she thinks it's fun to "ride on Mommy's back". My DH and I take turns and she can ride in the front too, but on the back is better for our backs.

Last summer I wore my 8 mo DS A LOT in a kinderpack. We had a double stroller, but wore him when we parked the stroller and walked around lands in MK and in queues at other resorts. Just holding him for extended periods of time would have been more difficult and it left my hands free for intrracting with my 5 yo DD, looking up wait times, etc on my phone. And I would sit and wear him if he was sleepy at meal times since strollers aren't allowed in a lot of restaurants.
