Do you avoid paying DVC weekend points, or stay anyway?

Do you try to avoid weekends at DVC paying with points?

  • Yes, we stay S-Th, pay cash or move on weekends

  • We stay right through the weekends using points

Our first trip we will arrive late Friday night so we are staying at SOG Friday and Saturday nights. Sunday we will move to BCV in a 2 bdr. and stay for 8 nights.
We considered moving again to try out SSR as a family, but Im thinking the longer stay will make our vacation feel longer and we can relax and not worry about packing up ( I pack alot!) so we are staying at BCV.

We are going to stay for the weekend this year, but most future trips will avoid the weekends.

We stay. We normally schedule our 9 or 10 nights stays to only incorporate one weekend during the trip. We have accumulated enough points to not have to worry about moving and-or paying cash.

We don't like to pack up and move and unpack again. So we stay put.

To me I can't see using all of those points on the weekends. We are a family of 6 so the 2 bedroom eats up alot of points. We will stay Friday and Sturday nights at a value resort (the kids love those) then on Sunday move to a DVC resort for 5 nights. It seems to work for us.

I happen to LOVE the Pop Century - so that will be where I will be staying in the future if I have to be there on Fri or Sat.....

I also stay off-site - this last trip - stayed at the Marriott Grande Vista and Pop Century (on Wednesday because of the early/late hour thing) - it was very, very nice. it put to shame the MGV - that place was dirty in comparision.....

when a value resort can put to shame one of the better timeshares in Orlando - it says a lot - at Disney they were constantly and mean constantly cleaning. MGV cleaned the rooms but the outside halls were just plain dirty....Disney has a scrub brush for the outside places.

however despite being able to stay until Sat - we left on Thursday (arrive on Sat) - 5 to 6 days is about all the time I want to spend - I drive there and back and I need time to recover before returning to work on Monday.

on my next trip the DVC member homecoming - I am staying at Pop Century - my use year is June - so all my points are gone.....

Once we joined DVC in '92 we cut our 2wks down to 12 nights, arriving on Sunday and leaving on Friday of the 2nd wk in order to conserve points. We have family in Kissimmee to stay with if we want to stay longer, but we usually just go home.

We always do DVC during the week. Sunday through Thursday. And park hop during that time. Then it's AKL and a relaxing Friday and Saturday night stay. We always fly Sunday to Sunday.

Haven't moved in 6 years. We usually do 6 night stays.::yes::

We always stay through at least one weekend but stay in Florida for two. Either at the beginning or end of our trip, we stay at the Hard Rock Hotel at Universal for a Friday and a Saturday night. It saves us points and lets us take advantage of the front of line access at US and IOA.

We used to always stay the weekends, but now that the kids are older and we have discovered Universal/IOA we always start or end at the Hard Rock. This way we get FOTL access and I save points too. If we weren't going to Universal/IOA, I'd stay put.

Well I am assuming my thread led to this poll, and it's interesting to see that while most of the people who responded said they moved, that this poll shows that only about 35% of us move on the weekends. I would imagine it comes down to points. If I had 400, I wouldn't bother, but with only 150, I have to conserve whenever possible. I'd love to know what percentage of the people who said they move have either the minimum or say less than 200 points. I think it would show that most of us move because we don't have the luxury of having a ton of points.

We move, but we still stay on points. We stay in a studio on the weekends and a one bedroom during the week. We just took a 4 night weekend trip and we stayed in a studio (so we did not move), but I voted for the first option.

When we first joined we'd do the sun-thur ressie to stretch our points; but thats what add-ons are for, having increased our points over the years (actually mor than doubled) we now usually stay the weekends too.

So far we have chosen to use the weekend points. Probably a lot of people use this method - we arrive on Sunday, stay 12 nights, and leave for home on Friday morning. So far it's just been my wife and I in a studio, so it doesn't seem so bad. This June we are taking son, DIL and 2 grandchildren. They'll have a studio of their own. Just couldn't come up with the points for a 2 bedroom, even though we own 300 points. Too many trips I guess.:p

FWIW: I have already chimed in as "not move" ... and we have 150 pts.

We stay either 7 or 8 nights (running Sat/Sat or Sat/Sun-eight-nights-later) during low season (January) and can alternate between Studio and 1BR unit. We do use other timeshare to trade into DVC on some years which then allows us to bank DVC points into the future.

We try to avoid staying the weekends, because of the high point total. Generally, we will arrive on a Friday, and spend Friday night, Saturday night, Sunday night in a regular resort (a moderate or a dleuxe if we get a deal). On Monday, we move to the DVC property and stay the week, checking out Friday.

We have been known to extend it through to Saturday on occasion and pay one weekend night.

I never end a trip in a regular hotel either. Once I get to the DVC, I'm there to stay.

For our first trip, we are spoiling ourselves and staying right through. We can do this though, in part, because we got the Dec use year for SSR, which gave a full year's points for '03 in Dec for use when the resort opens and since new points are coming only 6 months later, it seems like double the points.

After this trip, we'll probably do Sun-Thurs only and try out the other resorts on the weekends.

If it's our long 2 week trip it's all on points. But if it's a quick trip we stay Sun-Fri. You know save those costly weekend points for the longer trip.

This willbe the first trip in which we will be moving. Normally we stay 11 or twelve nights incorporating one weekend in the middle in which we stay put. This year we will start our stay on a weekend courtesy of the AP discount then move to our home resort.
